      You have so many things wrong in this video. Evel didn't retire in 1976 and the Shark Jump was in 1977. You said he jumped the sharks in 1976 and also said he jumped the sharks in 1977. Evel jumped again in 1979. And the term Jump the Shark had nothing to do with Evel Knievel, only Happy Days.

    I was a kid in the '70s and nothing was bigger than Evel Knievel. I can't even name a modern equivalent. He was the biggest entertainer of the '70s

    I always admired him, I wanted to be him, he inspired me to wanna be a Hollywood stuntman, it never happened, but I did try several jumps on my bicycle, jumped off our garage, it had a flat roof, I jumped the 16 steps at my grade school, yeah I was crazy then

    The Evel Knievel movie starring George Hamilton is worth a watch. BTW, the famous film of the crash when jumping the fountains at Caesar's Palace was shot by Linda Evans, who was married to John Derek at the time. She'd later go on to star on Dynasty in the 80's.

    2 great stories about Evel; his first “retirement” happened after his crash at Wembley Stadium. Frank Gifford from ABC was covering it for Wide World of Sports and was on the field when he crashed. He ran over to Evel and the first thing he said to Frank was “Get that broad outta my hotel room!”
    The Wembley crash partially happened because Evel saw how far he’d be jumping and knew he’d be short in his landing but also knew there was no way Harley Davidson get the parts to him fast enough to change the gearing (No FedEx back then) and he didn’t want to disappoint 80K fans

    He’s a legend and will always be remembered for pushing the limits of stunt jumping. He lived his life to the fullest and loved his family till he passed away. In a way he made Harley Davidson famous and made the profession for stunt people more present, respectful acknowledgment of pushing the limits. He was a historical legend and icon that will always be remembered for his passion for entertainment, ultimate adrenaline rush. Thanks 🙏 Sir Evel, RIH. A tribute that’s celebrating, 😢 video.

    When I was a kid in the 70's we'd do the Evel Knievel thing and set up a makeshift ramp and jump our bikes over stuff.

    Evel was the man when I was growing up. Seeing him in London on the Wide World of Sports and all those Cadillac's was like seeing Elvis or Royalty.
    He had me jumping 5 of my friends on my Schwinn one friend was under the ramp but it counted as 5 in my book. I then jumped a VW Beetle on my schwinn. Little tip.. Don't jump anything if you have an upset stomach.. Its pretty embarrassing having to do the walk of shame in front of your friends.

    The reason he crashed so many times is he was performing jumps with bikes that were way too heavy to be jumping and had almost no suspension. Triumphs and Sportsters (even stripped down versions) are street bikes, not dirt bikes. That said, he was a great showman but there was no need for him to hurt himself nearly as much as he did. Riding Yamaha YZs or Honda CRs would've kept him out of hospital most of the time. If you do this for a living you WILL crash but would your rather 35 broken bones or just 5 broken bones?

    • @jennifersman7990
      @jennifersman7990 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true, Robbie Knievel used a modified dirt bike and jumped further than his Dad ever could, he even became the first to successfully jump the Cesars Palace fountains

    I respected him and his son! It takes a lot of hutspa to do what they both did! It's pretty ironic that they had such an appropriate surname that fit their vocation perfectly! Somewhat like the fictional cartoon character Speed Racer! He was way cooler than the Fonz! Goodbye!
