This song inspired me to introuduce myself to more people (even though I'm mostly an introvert) and one day I want to get "Introduce yerself" tattooed on my hand so I always remember Gord's advice.

This song is heartbreaking. What an absolutely poetic way to talk about his struggle.
Remember in Lord of the rings when Gandalf passed into the shadow...later when the fellowship was in the forest and the elves were singing somewhere in the distance. Legolas said it was a lament for Gandalf but he couldn't say the words because the pain was just too near. This Album , for so many is that elven song that hurts our hearts to speak. RIP Gord

“Introduce Yerself”: One of the songs Downie wrote after his invasive brain surgery, it begins while he’s riding in the back seat of a vehicle with a friend. His memory is deteriorating and he’s struggling with the name of his driver, even though he feels he should know him. He writes “Introduce Yerself” on his hand and pokes his friend, hoping the suggestion might ease the tension. Downie talks about how that moment stuck with him. On Christmas Eve, he decided to tattoo the words on his hand. But the tattoo shop was closed and the phrase was never inked, though Downie immortalized his idea on the album cover.
Actually written for "Billy Ray" about an occasion in 2014 before his diagnosis.

@@2tragic Wow, I didn't know that it was about 2014 when his world was about to fall apart! That makes it even more touching. Weren't some songs on the album written before his diagnoses? He must have had symptoms by 2014. Maybe that was why he couldn't remember the driver's name. It may be why his marriage fell apart. They had just gotten over her breast cancer. Serious illnesses often cause divorces right after the crisis is over.

@@royglenn2487 I would trade places with him. Simply because I would like for my hero to be able to go Home again , to kiss his wife and kids, and friends. To remember dancing in the parking lot in the rain with his brother. I'm someone with major depression and mental Health problems, It's not a suicidal wish. It's to give my country it's Heart back. A part of Canada's Soul.
If I could do that? If I could trade and bring back Gord Downie to life?
