Bravo Gents , Love the Channel ! Just found you through Mr. Hewes ( Collabs are always beneficial ) , Keep up the great work and Best Wishes to you all and the Channel
These is getting better and better. Amazed at the amount of parts and blocks you have. I’m friends with David Hardy and helping on his Mk2 occasionally which I cut my teeth on in the army. Keep up the very interesting vlogs, can’t wait to visit to see it all in the flesh so to speak. Well done guys brilliant work. Merry Christmas.
Caught my Hubby watching this and saw a piston and thought I would like one of those. If any are left how much is it going to cost my husband. Love what you are doing very informative.
thank you for the feedback glad you enjoyed it! the pistons I'm wondering on the price to ask if I'm honest. all money raised through selling the pistons will go towards the restoration. I'm thinking around the £50 mark plus postage costs? what do you think?
Hi, thanks for the reply. £50 sounds good to me, especially as my Hubby is paying ... lol. We are enjoying your videos and think the work you are doing is fantastic. We were in Norfolk at the end of October 2023 and wanted to come and visit, but unfortunately couldn't make it. How do we go about paying etc? Thanks again@@tinkeringwithtanks
@@tinkeringwithtanksHi all, Do you still have any of the pistons left? We are thinking about going to Norfolk in October, so we could come and pick it up. Thanks for all the good videos. You guys are doing a fantastic job. Hazel. P.S. I’m @hstratton8313. We spoke at Tank Feast back in June, with my Hubby. Hazel
When I have stuck pistons in an engine I use a witches brew of automatic transmission fluid, acetone and penetrating oil (Not WD40) and let it sit over night.
Shame about the original block but the “new” one sounds in a lot better nick. I’ve just had to do a similar thing and get a Marine version of a 6 cylinder Ruston engine for a project so that we can reuse the bearings out of the marine one to replace the bearings in the original engine as the original one had worn down to the copper under the white metal with some deep scoring in places.
Glad you had spare engines/blocks as the number of cracks in the original and their positions made me think it's beyond practical repair (yes it can be repaired but the cost would be horrendous), still think you could use the original block/engine as ballast just to keep the original engine/block with the vehicle.
Drop me an email tinkeringwithtanks@gmail.com or Facebook page tinkering with tanks and we’ll get it arranged :) TH-cam notifications for comments is awful on comments I’ve replied to once :(
I made a similar linar puller but I used a little porty pack jack with a hole through the centre to pull them out rather than useing spanners looking forward to the progress on this one u have mammoth task ahead as u know good luck c u on the next one lads 😊Also do u guys possess any penetrating oil!!??
How late in build can you use a block because a few months ago I was offered a 8 cylinder rr generator engine. Bosch p size pump. No flywheel ex generator.
Cant help thinking these pistons should be removed from the bottom, less corrosion on the bore also a long piece of wood would save the hands. I know its maybe a stupid question but is that block cast iron or alloy? Where you have cleaned the cracks looks like ally but there is rust everywhere else? Is it savable?
Don't think you can drive the pistons down out of the block as the boss the main bearing sits in on the block web is usually narrower (keeps the overall length of the crank and hence hence the engine shorter thus making it stiffer) than the diameter of the cylinder bores, block is cast iron (possibly S.G. iron) , hope this helps.
@@stevehill4615 the bung he made is the same diameter as the liner so therefore bigger than the piston and this fitted between the journals?? I thought it must be cast iron but I saw the wire brushed cracks and they looked like ally, also I wondered how they where thinking of repairing it given the fragility of cast welding and or nickel bronze brazing, the block would almost definitely fail under load with those vertical cracks, one maybe but all those??
I'd be interested in a piston if I could afford it! Alas, one, I'm disabled and on a fixed income... and two, I'm stateside. International postage is not going to be kind here ;3 so I'll regrettably pass. You boys keep having fun, though, please!
Might be interested in a piston. My missus birthday is coming up she said she likes Rolls Royce's ; ) She wouldn't have a clue about Mighty Antars so I could get to bore her sensless explaining all about them.
It first I was like, "oh yes! A long one!" I think selling pistons is great idea. Sadly I've got too much crap to have any room for it. Got anything smaller?
If that strap snapped he would have lost his hands, bad idea guys. You had the right idea, but failed on the first go. Also you should of run a hone round the top before trying to whack them out. You knew the lip was there. How not to treat an original engine.
Watching liners being extracted on Boxing Day.
Fantastic 👍👍👍
I'm really enjoying this whole series. Thanks for posting
try putting a bit of oil on the rusty bores before banging out pistons
Allen Millyard would cut a couple of those blocks up with a hacksaw and make one good one, possibly with ten or twelve cylinders.
Meanwhile back in the real world do you think a bodge like that will ever run?

That’s dedication! Have you boys across the pond heard of penetrating oil?
If you're going to repair those cracks then remember to drill the ends before repairing to prevent them from running.

I guess I've missed out on a piston at this late date. What an exploration! Amazing how often those bits lying about come in useful.
Engine blocks. Different to what I used to find in hedges when I was a lad.
Hedge porn?
I realy enjoy watching yor video's. It is realy impressive that you are not put off by the problems you encounter. Looking forward to future video's

Yay new video ! ! !
Make some coffee tables out the blocks. Glass top. That would be cool..lol. A bit heavy to post. 🤣👍 Good luck. Promote a tip jar.
Wow! This is like overhauling the engine from a diesel locomotive! Oh... Wait a minute...

best channel on the net carnt wait 2 see them cracks repaired

...........like a voyage of discovery ..............................
This is a perfect illustration of the old joke, Don't force it, get a bigger hammer.
Space :o) the antar is making its own space as stuff from under the hedge goes in the scrap bin :D (I’m doing the same at the museum of father in law)
Great filming very interesting to see how it goes ! Now subscribed, thanks for sharing
Hey guys. Really enjoyed watching what you guys are doing up there. And it be great to have one of the long block piston if any are still available
i'm looking for £50 plus postage
I would be happy with that
@@tinkeringwithtanks I would like to buy one of the pistons if I can

I love that engine what a unit.
I don't need a RR Antar piston but suggest anyone who does might like a certificate that states a bit of history of the piston to go with it.

If you slip a deep well socket over the rounded end if that broken socket handle the hammer will stop glancing off of it.

Why not weld a flat metal disc onto a length of bar? Give you a larger surface to hit...
Seems that little squirt of old used oil should make the work easier but what the hell do I know?
The Liner seals are eliptical from new, they aren't 'round'
How much for a piston?
£50 plus postage
Are the pistons still available?
They are indeed :)
It’ll be a couple of weeks before I’m able to send any out
had one of those for an ash tray :)
👍👍

How much for a piston? I’m at Woodton so can collect.
£50 plus postage but your welcome to collect

perfect idea! haha buy her a rolls royce bit by bit! i'm looking for £50 a piston
he sounds just like Tommy cooper

got valves, pushrods, rocker arms tons of stuff :)
It's amazing what these guys can do in Slovenia, I think...can't quite tell, but I know it ain't English...
Best of luck on assembling a Franken-royce for the Antar. Should be an interesting challenge.
Is the cracks a common weakness on old Rolls Royce diesels?
I'd live a piston, what is the price? Happy to pick up and clean.
i'm looking for £50 a piston plus postage

Hhmm BIG pistons! Each one must displace 2 litres capacity. Anyway, Good luck with the engine build.
Wouldn't it be lovely to put a RR Meteor engine in.
ROUGH BUGGERS
