I heard this when I was a teenager and a preacher named Lester Rolloff would sing it all the time. He would make up additional verses, and we would sing along to them. When I had the thought of recording it, I always assumed he wrote it. Several of my friends thought the same thing. But then someone told me that Dwayne wrote it and I was happy to know the truth. I never got to meet him, but I wish I did and would appreciate any more information that you have. It’s really nice to hear from someone who knew him personally.
