I remember Russell peters in 07 the Come up of Russell was killing the comedy world and still holding it down.
In my opinion, Russell is the first comedian who opened the platform to other brown comedian to joke at their own ethnicity, he normalized ethnic jokes. Most people are so offended at ethnic jokes but Russel knew how to make it fun and normalize it. He first jokes at himself then ease into others.. he started in 90s. Most of other different ethnicity comedians followed the platform which Russell opened for all.
People think not being the biggest star in America means you underrated. The reality is many of the American comedians they "rate" can't book at show outside of the US
I wouldn't look at it that way. For example, there are many American comedians who can play arenas in the U.K. or Australia (Kevin Hart, Chris Rock, Louis C.K., Amy Schumer) but there aren't many non-American comedians outside of Trevor Noah to my knowledge who have played arenas here in the U.S.
