There's a big difference between "borrowing" and "stealing," although only doing the first half of the borrowing and ignoring the second half leads to the stealing part. Sliker needs to realize that you can't confess to "borrowing and not paying back" when it was a conscious effort to steal. Words matter, my dude.

Well, I think 'scam' is a more appropriate word than 'steal'. "Steal" implies that something was taken by force or was done while someone was caught unawares. "Scam" implies that some level of lying and deceit was pulled to get someone to give up something under false pretenses. Sliker lied about the circumstances to get people to give up their money out of their own free-will. You can't convince me that he thought he was going to pay 100% of that money back, assuming he had plans to do so in the first place (which he likely did not).

The person I thought was my best friend set me up to get robbed during which I was shot twice. By the time I got out of the hospital he had moved, I haven’t seen him since. I was really close with his family who have since walked away from him.

We were supposed to be family...until the very end when after 20 years of scratching/scraping, we got our big $ payoff... he transferred my half to an account in his name. Fortunately, I was able to scramble and get it back. To this day, I'm blown away by his greed and that he would try to burn me when I was financing nearly all of our business operations/acquisitions when we couldn't get banks to loan us $. Crazy what big $ or any $ will make people do.
My uncle had a gambling issue and used the bank froze me out excuse and took 20k from my parents. Not devastating to their financial situation but hard hit none the less. Glad these people got their money back.

Literally had a friend like this. I don't want to put anything out there, that is not 100% true. But my friend started off with his parents, then he tried with the wrong people and grew up after that. I genuinely thought that dude was unique, but maybe this is just how everyone does it

Note on the tax letter; Tax bills in the UK come from the HMRC, the Bluestone company appears to be a capital management firm. The wording ("It's time to pay your self assessment") sounds like a notice from the HMRC directly. I wonder if he's just bodged something together from the letter header of his investment managers? Very strange.
The tax implication around the 100k he got from trainwrecks shows that he's even breaking the law, he most likely didn't pay taxes on that.

The insidious thing about gambling addiction is that they're sure if they find enough money to go gamble again, they'll make back all the money they lost and be able to pay off all their debts. There's really no way for anyone to trust Slicker with money again, because it's going to be an uphill battle for him to spend the money how he says he will, and not go to the casino convinced that he'll make enough to pay everyone back.
