When the first time we lose power we didn't expect it to last long, and people in texas is not prepared for this kind of situation, we were not ready for shortage of electricity during this cold weather... We slept in our couch with few blankets along with layering clothes! most people did the same thing some slept in their car running coz they don't have fireplace! some people can't cook because they don't have gas stove and most of stores and restaurant are not open during that time... our situation is better coz we have gas to run the fire place and also some camping gears to keep us warm.
I recommend also taking steps to help prevent your pipes from freezing and bursting. Open your faucets so there is a small flow. Open cabinet doors to your sinks. And since your using a gas fireplace have a carbon monoxide detector.
In Germany, we have to prepare for a long power outage and large-scale blackout. Our disaster management agency recommends every citizen and household to be self-sufficient for two weeks with food, water and e.g. camping gas. Unfortunately, many people ignore the warning and do not have enough supplies. Unfortunately, because of the green energy policy and the shutdown of conventional nuclear power plants as well as coal-fired power plants, we will experience blackouts like the one you are experiencing now in Texas more often starting in 2022. I wish you all the best. Unfortunately in Texas there was a lot of frozen water pipes. It shows me how important it is in the winter during a power outage to close the main valve from the water connection and drain the water if you don't have a backup heater with gas or wood.
Thank you very much, it is really good to prepare for this kind of situation. We are Grateful that we managed to keep our pipes secure and didn't have damages in our house. Also we live in Norway before we learn how to stay warm in times like this...
@@r.h.3013 Toronto Canada back in 2013 we had a big ice storm and basically a black out for days and in some areas for weeks during the holidays but since then the government took winterizing the electrical grid much seriously and we never had a black out since due to weather.
@@johnmendoza6838 In Germany, we also had a regional blackout lasting days in the winter of 2005. Because of snow and ice, power pylons were knocked down in rows. In more and more countries, open fires and wood stoves for heating are being banned. Vehicles with gasoline engines are also to be banned in some countries in the future. If another snow chaos comes later, people will hardly be able to help themselves. In Europe, we almost had a blackout on January 8, 2021. A defect in Romania caused the entire European power grid to unravel. In one network part, the frequency dropped massively within seconds, and in the other network part, it rose sharply. The large-scale blackout in Europe could only be averted by shutting down industrial plants and quickly ramping up conventional power plants. This year and next year, the shutdown of many conventional power plants is planned, because Europe wants only green energy. This is good for the environment, but very critical for the security of energy supply. In Canada, how exactly does the government ensure that a blackout can't happen in the winter?

Thank you, this one is when the beginning of storm we didn't know yet that we are going to lose power for a long time, after that we try to not open doors anymore...
Scary and unpredictable at first. Pero sa tingin ko bhe blessing in disguise din na nawalan ng power, you guys had more time to spend with each other without the use of phone or any device. Parang nakapag socmed detox ka din. Liam is so fascinated. Ang kapal ng snow sa labas.
Several of questions: Is this common? What is it like for you and family: scary? thrilling? Any advice for your viewers to prepare for such thing in the future?
This is not common at all specially in South part of Texas, snow only happens once in the blue moon 😅 anyway its good if people have generators or Portable heater when this happens. Extra batteries and some stuff that needed during no power time.

Dan: Because the power went out. 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks captain obvious! 🤣🤣🤣
Haha buset talaga si dan eh 😅
Always start the car outside the garage not inside because if carbon monoxide poisoning. Start buying water bottles and canned goods.
Take care.
Yes we run it outside the driveway coz signal it's hard that time.
I know that Mug!! 😁😁😁
