Why does everything have to be gay. Its a story about people who faced unimaginable unknowns in a time when you could die from cutting yourself. It was a time when people weren't such a soft touch. If you want a "queer story" write that version, and see how it sells.

I was really looking forward to listening to the discussion and I was a bit disappointed there was very little attempt made to relate the story, characters and their behaviours to the the time it was set (1850's). Really I shouldn't have expected so much. Take into account the behaviour of the men, the command structure and the situation they found themself in which apart from the supernatural element was likely very true to life. It was a very grim depiction of a doomed expedition marred by a leader that was more concerned with success than survival. It must have been truly awful to have been one of those sailors as they all died to illness of the body and mind. This was an excellent series with fantastic actors and for me is right up there with the major successes of TV drama and production.

The book was released in 2007 not the 90s.

Additionally, they were talking about Sir John Ross riding in the sledge, not Sir John Franklin. Easy mistake.

@@somegizmo3054 I think this one is a typo, not intentional mistake.

Really care less about the gay angle, just the historical context…

Unfortunate that this is so downvoted. I'm enjoying the commentary so far.
