Two Cathedrals is the greatest episode in the greatest TV series ever made. Using Brother's in Arms as the soundtrack to the final scene where Jed Bartlett walks through the rain and holds the assembled press corps in the palm of his hand.....utterly brilliant in every emotional way

In the air tonight, Phil collins. The calm in his eyes after his angry confrontation with his former partner, and he realizes he has to make amends to his ex-wife before he tries to undo the damage.

The Brothers In Arms at the end of Two Cathedrals - When Leo said watch this I nearly caved with emotion. Outside of TWW, most of us never knew of John Spencer. He is certainly agreat loss to all of us.
More comments--Aaron Sorkin said that when he heard Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms" he knew that one day he would use it to create a finale. "Two Cathedrals" is the greatest hour of commercial TV ever seen.
+sandih29687 - Two Cathedrals wasn't just a TV show. It was more. It could stand as a great movie in it's own right. And, I thought the end scene with Brothers In Arms was the most perfect blending of music with visuals I have ever seen. I could be wrong, but I thought it was actually 2 hours. I think that Aaron Sorkin is both a poet & a lyricist, if that makes any sense. Best wishes, Ted
I first saw it in 2003. My girlfriend bought me the box set. We had a bar in a glitzy part of the south of france. We had an american client who said we had to watch it. We worked 7 days a week, 10am till 2am. But when we had a new west wing box set, we watched an episode every night! I have never watched this episode again. Just listening to that song, anywhere, makes the lump form in my throat and the dust affecting my eyes! Yesterday watched first time ever the Clarkson car show. But it was the last one. They had the song at the end as well. That dastardly dust suddenly appeared again crom nowhere! Thank you Aaron Sorkin. I am not American, but i love America. punknhead23 the tv show that gave the Democrats the roadmap to become irrelevant, delusional enough to think that a speech will solve everything. And then there’s the misogyny...
@@flyingdutch9818 I give Sorkin the "Democrats to the rescue" storyline. its his show his writing and his fantasy. which is really rather frightening when you realise how insulting, truely misogynistic, a great deal of the women's parts are written as they interact with men. women whose story lines are sketched out as strong characters but when pen is put to paper the women are written as hapless buffoons. one line in particular makes me actually cringe: to c.j. at the very end from josh, "you ever stop thinking of this office as Leo's office?" when the men fail it is heroically. when the women fail the are silly girls who didn't know any better. as realistic as the sets are and do all the women in the whitehouse wear snug sweaters all year long? the show does have mommy issues.
No doubt whatsoever Period the most powerful, thought provoking, tear inducing TV show ever. It made you cry, cheer, and yell, sometimes in the same episode
Thank you for posting this. My brother and I watched the West Wing the night before he died in 2013, In Excelsis Deo. We both wept and spoke of the great moments in this show - such wonderful writing and acting. Many of those moments were included in this video and watching The West Wing always reminds me of what the United States could be, in the idealized world Sorkin and others created. It's a world so many of us hope to someday approximate. That is why my brother and I so loved this show - the hope for a better time, a better place, however unrealistic.
+Susan Hayes Thank you for sharing! I too feel the same as you..longing for a better world in which humanity can show its greatest quality love and mercy.
+Susan Hayes - Dear Susan, your comment wrenched my heart. The episode with Toby standing for the Vet & Bartlett & Mrs. Landingham supporting him was very moving. I hope the ideals that Sorkin promotes can someday be a reality, even if it is in the distant future. Although I can't understand what you went through with your brother. And I am not a very religious person, I promise to send you a few prayers for you & your brother. Best wishes, Ted
Emma, whoever you are, thank you, really fantastic job of Editing. You managed to encapsulate a lot of my favourite clips in this beautifully observed montage. Kudos.
Holy shit. I searched for West Wing Brother in Arms and I got one of the most amazing super cuts ever made. You encapsulated the whole arc of the series with one of the most iconic songs they ever used. I am in the process of grieving a major loss in my life and this helped immensely. Thank you.
same here. I am truly sorry for your loss. I guess this writing, poetic yet romanticized version of a world fueld by humanity still brings people together...even in mourning...I hope you are well.
you showed this show's soul. the true meaning behind it. friendship and strength. and everything is just 100% right. the scene selection is 100% right. it's all in it's place, and it's so right. and the song, and jed bartlet. and you. your editing. it's all there. and it's all 100% heart and soul. i really can not say anything else. just brilliant and fantastic and all the other compliments a person can say.
Aaron Sorkin admitted that he wrote “Two Cathedrals” with “Brothers in Arms” at the foreground of his mind. In fact I think he said that the first time he heard “Brothers in Arms “ he began to think of creating a show that would conclude with that song.
EMMA did such an AWESOME JOB of editing this collection ..... I am truly THANKFUL for it being share with "US ALL" ... The West Wing will always be held "highest" of television series EVER produced !!!!!!
There has never been, nor will ever be a more amazing show that intertwines great writing and amazing actors. I have watched every episode more than a dozen times each over the years and I will continue watching them until I leave this earth. Your editing has got to be the most outstanding I have ever seen. It brought out so many emotions in me as for this show is the first to ever grab me, drag me inside and make me feel all the emotions that the actors are feeling. Thank you for this and may years of West Wing enthusiasts continue to enjoy.
I watched this show from the beginning when it first aired on TV. I then watched it further 5 or 6 times when I bought the DVD sets. Each viewing uncovering a little more brilliance that would make me cry, or make me laugh. Often it would leave me in awe from what I was watching. It provided me with inspiration to find my own greatness in being of service to others, in the way they did for those that entrusted them. I really dont think there is another television show that can emote you so significantly to move you to change the way you do things in your life, or simply just entertain you. Aaron Sorkin is a genius, the closest other show being The Newsroom, that has snippets of this brilliance, but this is the best. The dialogue, the comical exchanges, and the music, oh the music. For those that have not arrived, please do yourself a favour and watch this show.
the wire and this series are among the greatest pieces of writing in american history. utter respect and thankfulness for incapsulating what I thought to be our common ground: the power of reason. Man, was I wrong. I hope we’ll meet again.
Just watched all series back to back over a few weeks in a marathon session so the cast and plot are still very fresh in my mind, and watching this, I want to go do it all over again. Such a show :)
I'm not ashamed to admit this: I've binged watched the West Wing three times in the last year. The first time was this passed December, where I fell in love with the show. The second time was this passed Summer, as something to do while I was recovering from having my Wisdom Teeth removed. The third time is right now. I'm currently in season 3 and trying to get through it before it leaves Netflix in December. The episode "Two Cathedrals" while very sad is probably my favorite in the whole show! This song being a driving reason for it
I’m watching TWW for the 1st time 2 decades plus after it first aired. The “2 Cathedrals” episode is absolutely brilliant. The choice of Dire Straits “Brothers in Arms” as the soundtrack to the final minutes of this episode was perfection.
Thank you Emma, thank you. Remember when I watched the very first episode of "West Wing" Thought that "the Powers that Be" would take it off the air. Thank you for honoring the greatest series. Brought tears to my eyes.
I've tried several times to put into words what this video felt like, what their stories did to me (which, sadly, I haven't seen yet) and it's just not possible. You took such a chance in vidding this song and you did it so damn well, it's incredible. I miss your editing so much but I'm glad I get to witness this outstanding tribute to the west wing while I wait for you to come back. ;)
Although 17 years old now, The West Wing serves as reminder to us of great TV that is as socially relevant today as back then . Especially in these dark times of our country. A pure blend of genius writing, acting and issues. The Bartlet White House had integrity, honor and truth. To bad it's TV. This scene is my favorite of all time from any show I have ever scene. Perfect in so many ways.
Thank you for this. This is my favorite show I would watch with my dad. Whenever I feel down or tired, I watch this and it honestly makes me feel good.
Thank you for making this show. It reminds me of so many times and issues that I experienced in my time. There is so much and so many things I have experienced that I could never have imagined as a boy. So many people who stood with me and by me that helped make it possible for so many successes, large and small. This show reflects on so many battles waged in the dark and the light. Thank you for making this. It is a journal and a legacy. Thank you for making this show.
I was very disappointed when the 1st version of this disappeared from the "Tube." So happy to have found a new interpretation. Hope this one lasts. Cheers, and thank you for posting. ~ S ~
Watching West Wing clips after the Trump election hurts in a way I never thought was possible. The idea of creating an America like the one in The West Wing becomes harder and harder to believe is possible to reach each day.
Emma, Your work is magnificent! Packed with raw emotions underscored with brilliant scenes from the West Wing as only these actors could pull off. Excellent culmination. Beautiful....
The actual sequence whilst this plays is an emotional wrecking ball. Jed has to face up to his ingrained guilt and insecurity that's plagued him for decades. It all comes down to him now, and not even Leo, Josh, Toby, Sam or Mrs Landingham cannot help him now.
I agree with you. Which makes it interesting as to why Sorkin chose "Brothers in Arms" a song about comradeship, to accompany Bartlet as he travels from the White House to the press conference.
@@dsteamer100 As I said in another section Aaron Sorkin heard “Brothers in Arms” and made up his mind to write a show where it was the finale. Don’t know if he wanted to use it after “Hallelujah” . Just magical and you had to see the series from the beginning. @Indigo Path you are correct-it is an emotional wrecking ball.
This video made me cry. I’ve lost my grand father and a man who helped raise me through high school. I wish they were here now so I can show them this and let them know I was always there for them because they are my family too. Thank you @witchorking for posting this video. It helps.
I keep going back to this series. I can't count the times I've watched it end to end. Working and his researchers at their collective best, not to mention the cast!!
Wouldn't it be interesting to see how a character like Santos would deal with Trump in Biden's place. I reckon he would not be perceived to have Biden's shortcomings.
This is a time for American heroes and we do reach for the stars. Unfortunately what we reach for is right beyond our grasp. I am a 65-year-old liberal Democrat I’ve been one since I was an 18 year old voting for the first time liberal Democrat. It scares the hell out of me when I think of what’s about to hit us on January 3. I am a make my jokes about Kevin McCarthy on another website but the man scares the hell out of me. I watch the show every day because it reminds me of what could be.
When I watch this I look at the EMMY on my shelf and I realize if you don't have one, there is no justice. This is as fine a tribute creation as the editing arts can achieve. thank you!
Yeah right... Thank for make me cry! Greatest show ever done... A very nice tribute you did, nice tribute to the show, but also nice tribute to John Spencer at the same time... I am glad they cancelled the show after season 7 because they had no way to continue without Leo! Thank you for the amazing video!
What a great tribute. You touched on so many of those "moments" that made this show special.... thanks for doing this. I guess I'll have to go and start with the pilot now and watch the entire series again. This will be the 20th or 30th time at least.
I’m an African American Muslim and this video just made me cry. You can always count on Americans to do what is right. They take a long ass time but at the end they do what is right.
This is my all time favourite show. Even though I’m English and don’t have much interest in politics UK or US for that matter, this is how I would like all politicians to be but unfortunately they have a tendency to let us down. The acting is sublime, the story lines emotional and the characters so believable. Maybe it’s too hard for politicians to live up to the standard set in this show, but I tend to think that it isn’t! If you are a genuinely good person you can make a difference....
October 2020 nearing our election...then seeing this brings a tear to the eye not only for the greatness of The Westwing and what America could be but also the sadness of what it is now!
"Out Where the Buses Don't Run", about a delusional and burned out former cop looking for the mobster who supposedly got away. Often cited as the best episode of that series. Little Richard had a fun cameo at the beginning as a street preacher.

I've tried several times to put into words what this video felt like, what their stories did to me (which, sadly, I haven't seen yet) and it's just not possible. You took such a chance in vidding this song and you did it so damn well, it's incredible. I miss your editing so much but I'm glad I get to witness this outstanding tribute to the west wing while I wait for you to come back. ;)
Great work, Emma. One of the best TV shows ever, and one of the greatest guitarists ever! :). ❤

Brilliant, thank you emma for giving us a small snapshot of one of the best shows ever!
This is GORGEOUS! It's just so heart wrenching and heart warming and poetic. You really captured the emotional power of the show. Really beautiful
One of my favorite songs covering parts of one of my all time favorite TV shows, and likely my favorite 1 hour show.
Thank-You very much.
I started watching the series and I still haven’t seen a better episode than this one. That season 2 finale is perfect tv writing..
Emma,
Your work is magnificent!
It helps.
Thank you. Nice job on the video. This is my favorite show of all time. How we need The West Wing back!
My dad died recently. We played this song at his funeral as he was obsessed with the show
I keep going back to this series. I can't count the times I've watched it end to end. Working and his researchers at their collective best, not to mention the cast!!
I can't describe how great this video is. Solid work.
ShortPandaFilms Thank you so much!!
Emma, you did an amazing job selecting these clips and editing the final result. Bravo!
This video has one problem. There are not enough 'likes' on it - it deserves far more.
Need this now more than ever.
Thank you Emma! This was a magnificent piece of art that you made
Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could see eight years of President Santos with the same actors
Yes I really wish we could
I loved the The West Wing, but it ran its course. The start of the Santos era was the right time to bow out - end on a high.
Wouldn't it be interesting to see how a character like Santos would deal with Trump in Biden's place.
I reckon he would not be perceived to have Biden's shortcomings.
Seeing this again still brings tears to my eyes!
The best series ever on tv...
Hopefully you are feeling a bit more optimistic these days.
this is the best 6 minutes of television ever written and performed!
Thank you for this peace. I thought it was exceptional and on the mark. I miss those days and these people in this setting. St. Crispin's Day!
When I watch this I look at the EMMY on my shelf and I realize if you don't have one, there is no justice. This is as fine a tribute creation as the editing arts can achieve. thank you!
parkerfilms1 you have an Emmy? You worked on WW?hats off to you man!!
@@eastwestcoastkid Thanks. I do have a National EMMY. I did not work on West Wing, however. Wish I had had that privilege.
parkerfilms1 awesome!! What did you work on if you can say?
@@eastwestcoastkid 1996 Olympics (Technical Director, Studio Technical Team) It was a hybrid job both switching "live" and editing.
Good for you..!!
Emma, thank you so much for a brilliant montage of scenes from a truly brilliant show. You rock!
Well, that settles it. I'm going to have to watch this show. Never saw it before but now....yep, gotta watch it.
Yes! You'll never regret seeing "The West Wing!" A benchmark of superb quality television, in every way!
What a great tribute. You touched on so many of those "moments" that made this show special.... thanks for doing this. I guess I'll have to go and start with the pilot now and watch the entire series again. This will be the 20th or 30th time at least.
You picked up where "Two Cathedrals" left off and were like, "You wanna HURT? I can bring that." Wonderful work.
Emma, this is incredible. I am in tears. Most perfect show ever.
THANK YOU.
That was an absolutely beautiful montage. Brought tears to my eyes, one of my favourite shows of all time.
Fantastic tribute, makes me want to go back to season 1 episode 1
Thank you! This is beautifully done! The mix with the music and spoken parts!
I’m an African American Muslim and this video just made me cry. You can always count on Americans to do what is right. They take a long ass time but at the end they do what is right.
Best show ever!!!!!! Thank you for this video!!!!!
Thank you for the video! ❤
Wonderfully edited. A true tribute to an amazing series.
#thewestwing #westwing
Really must watch this again.
Yes you must.
Daryl Gerard Morrissey Thank you so much!
Very well done, excellent editing. I make sure I see something from this show every day.
Beautiful. Just beautiful. Thank you for the upload.
What an outstanding program this was. Among the best of all time.
Obviously WELL DONE...the song is ICONIC too
JED BARTLET FOR 2020 !!
Still heart rending. Best series ever.
Thank you for posting
God ... I loved this series so much.
And that song just rips me apart.
Thank you for this. A video has never made me cry so fast.
No idea why this popped up in my suggested videos but oh my god it was utterly brilliant!! Thanks 🙏
Thanks for posting this. Goosebumps, every single time.
What I wouldn’t give to have just one day to watch this with my daddy. RIP Robert Steven Ferguson 😞💔
one of the greatest moments in TV history.
I DON'T HOW TO BEING DESCRIBE THE WAY THIS VIDEO MAKES ME FEEL.
I still remember this song from Miami Vice from an episode called “where the buses don’t run” they used the same length
"Out Where the Buses Don't Run", about a delusional and burned out former cop looking for the mobster who supposedly got away. Often cited as the best episode of that series. Little Richard had a fun cameo at the beginning as a street preacher.
NICE JOB EMMA!!!!! Love the Brothers In Arms song!! FIT PERFECTLY!!!
