    Super thanks to you for those amazing videos, I'm a teacher myself and your channel has been great help to me...... a question though: what does it mean to use the phrase (getting on first name basis) ?

    • @EnglishLikeANative
      @EnglishLikeANative  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      To be on a first name basis means that you have become familiar enough with someone to comfortably start addressing one another by your first names. Imagine you work with a client and start off calling him Mr Smith after many years of working together you may end up calling him Fred because you know each other so well.

    Dear Ms English,
    Thank you so much for the video. May I ask a question? What about the flat in the address? Where do you put it in the street address?

    • @EnglishLikeANative
      @EnglishLikeANative  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is basically the house name / number so it comes after the title, usually the name of the building then follows the flat number, then next line is the street. Miss A. English, Flat 1 Tower Block, Oxford St, London. SW11

  • @lizainuk
    @lizainuk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    When I was in Uk, I always thought title, first name is somewhat inappropriate way to address adult. But after moving to Dubai, I learnt that India & India subcontinent region they simply ignore this rules often. Many name structure is like first name then following by father’s name & town of their origin at last. Also some reason some asian do not share surname as well. Because of that, they only address each other tile with first name only as common practise. This should not error, simply their name structure do not fit how English linguistic culture.

  • @truella1305

    Quite interesting. So would it be inappropriate to address a woman who you know is divorced (a client, for instance) as Mrs ? Do you *have* to say Ms ?
