- NJ has the highest property tax rate in the country and in July 2023, New Jersey embarked on a mission to ease the burden of property taxes for its senior residents. A fresh law was inked, promising property tax relief to senior citizens, slashing property taxes for seniors by 50% up to $6,500 in savings per year! Today, we delve deep into the details. What will this new law look like, who will it help and how will this affect the real estate market in NJ? And the burning question remains: Can these promised property tax cuts ever truly come to fruition?
In this video I dissect the recent property tax relief legislation for senior citizens in New Jersey called StayNJ. Our guiding light for this exploration is a comprehensive article from NJ.com and NJ.gov , and we're about to extract the essential takeaways.

This is NOT supposed to happen until 2026, and only if you are a senior OVER 65+). And when Gov. Murphy is out of office. Our state senators tried to push it thru earlier, but Murphy voted it down. (Which means it will never happen)
Thanks for your comment.
It will not happen with a $212 billion debt
We'll see if it actually happens and how they would intend to pay for it. Thanks for commenting. @@andrekellogg8859
I have lived here 40 years . I did senior freeze that worked well. The Anchor program on the other hand I got once . The last one has been processing for 10 months. I didn’t receive it yet but did got the forms for the next one. What’s going on governor? Kwangju my money Ed Docke
Believe it when I see it
I understand.
We’ve lived in NJ over 20+ years. My property taxes are over $13k, the SALT deduction was taken away, and the state will crucify our pensions and retirement accounts. I would love to stay but won’t be able to afford it in retirement.
Thanks for commenting. If you’re taxes were cut in half would you stay?
Excellent! Very good information Matt, Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Land of Criminals WELCOME
much Love 💐.
Steve Adubato says that this tax cut unlikely to ever happen.😢
Time will tell if this actually happens. As I said in the video I am cautiously optimistic. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Lived in NJ for 20 years! Nice area in central NJ. Best memory I had was leaving in 2022. But the area is a great place, great schools, easy access, moderate winters
Thanks for sharing! Just curious what state did you move to? Would you ever consider coming back to NJ?
@@MattHaviland NE Florida. Retired now. If taxes were lower, mayhaps.
That's great. Enjoy sunny Florida! @@delawaresurf5422
I live in florida now. When are u people in New Jersey gonna wise up. The taxes in Jersey will only get worse because of the $212 billion debt they carry . So many people have and are leaving NJ and those that stay will pay their tax burden. Good luck suckers.
Me and my family are paying 17k on property tax it’s fucking madness
Wow! What part of NJ are you in?
@@MattHaviland I’m in north Jersey it’s a shit show up here
@@arvelyt2188 Wow. a little better down in south jersey.
@@MattHaviland yea definitely I’m in passaic county and there are many schools here in paterson alone this is like 4 public High-schools and like 11 Middle/elementary schools so I think this is the big reason for it
By the time it gets cut in half it will have doubled. My 2023 tax was $9,800. It was increased for 2024 to $10,800.
I hope it doesn’t double by 2026! Thanks for watching
I don't see any property tax relief, i am a senior 50% ? O really.
Yes. Keep in mind this won't be implemented until 2026.
No one wants to retire in nj because of taxes the day I retire I’m out of nj
Property taxes are a big reason why people leave NJ. This new law may entice seniors to stay. Thanks for watching.
don't worry NJ will tax you to exit just like CA is doing now.
@@mtbbiker6401 NJ has already charged an exit fee for several years.
Still waiting and hoping...
Yes we'll see what happens. I haven't heard of any updates on this yet.
If you want to see reeeaaallllyyy high property tax, look at the suburbs of Columbus Ohio. And will get worse January 2024 b/c of reappraisal. The reappraisal almost doubled the price of my house. Right now I'm paying $6000 a year on a 2 bdrm 1 bth little old house.
Wow! Thanks for your comment. There aren’t many places worse than NJ when it comes to property taxes.
@@MattHaviland Now you know. Columbus Ohio is fly over country as they say. And it isn't well known like NJ. But it's bad. If you look at your map, you'll see the little dark blue spot in the middle of Ohio. That's Franklin county where the tax is hideous. Thanks for your channel.
You're welcome. Thanks for commenting. @@benton-benton
Let's get something straight no contract no debt bunch of lies that bum hasn't sent me my anchor rebate check new Jersey is a commy state
Thanks for commenting. We'll see if this actually happens. Hope you get your Anchor rebate.
@@MattHaviland Matt the govt hasn't sent me anything all my life , the only thing te govt has been doing is stealing everything I have and giving it to there commy friends
If you don’t file for it, you won’t get it, moron
Best plan is to run to be a Senator from NJ. Then magically people will send you a Mercedes & envelopes full of cash! So much cash that you can hide it all over your house along with giant gold bars "in case of an emergency."
Good plan LOL.
Lived in NJ 68 years. This will never happen as they'll need revenue for the influx of migrants that will get free housing, food and health care. Haven't got my Anchor check either and my boat is drifting south.
Thanks for your comment. What state are you headed to?
Vote RED our tax dollars should never go towards supporting illegal migrants.
