The main melody in this theme is indeed sprinkled across multiple tracks in the game as a leitmotif. It's probably the most important leitmotif of the game. But it is actually a boss theme, one that is used for a lot of important fights. The super arranged version is also one of the only ones to play in-game, in one of the most important cutscenes to boot. You can imagine that a lot of players of this game instantly perk up when the melody starts playing, as it typically means that shit's about to get real. I myself always ready myself for a good time whenever this plays, though there is one other boss theme from Sora no Kiseki/Trails in the Sky that I get hyped for even more.
The Trails in the Sky series is pretty distinct from the other Trails games in that its battle themes seem more jazzy/classical and laid-back than the others, though there are some exceptions. It lends to the game's more lighthearted and optimistic atmosphere compared to the others, though when it gets dark... ho boy, it gets _dark._ The Trails series certainly is diverse, both in its soundtracks and in its stories. Each game really feels like the music is specifically tailored to its general mood, but if there's one thing I would say Falcom's soundtracks are known for above all else... it's their electric guitar work, with a smattering of violins along the way.
P.S. FC stands for First Chapter, which is the first game in the Trails in the Sky series. SC is Second Chapter, or the second game.

Well, it's not just good because it's used for important fights... it's good because it's the culmination of the build up towards those fights.
I do love the combat songs from Trails in the Sky. As much as I like Silver Will, Sophisticated Fight is my favourite one to just listen to whenever and one of my favourite JRPG combat themes out there.

Silver Will hits hard.. mainly because up until you hear it for the first time.. the soundtrack is pretty chill and jazzy... then the plot picks up and this song drops the mic. It doesn't play often but when it does play, it's for 2 specific characters who share a history. It's energetic, desperate and yet there's sorrow and hope mixed in.. it's very emotional with the full context (like any rpg vgm really).

This song plays in multiple boss battles, but it is mostly associated to one of the antagonist with silver-like grey hair. That's why the title is silver will.

The FC and SC in the title stands for First Chapter and Second Chapter which is basically just Sky 1 and Sky 2. I believe they were originally meant to be one game but it ended up being too long so they split it into two "chapters" hence the titles
This is a very important song in the Sky series (the other being Whereabouts of Light which you'll get to eventually) so I'm glad you got to hear both versions and enjoy them. Thanks for doing the double reaction btw, it was unexpected but very much appreciated :D

There's also Shine of Eidos. That one is pretty important too. In fact I'm sure Leitmotif is used more than the other two. Though the other two themes relate more to Joshua and his story and Shine of Eidos relates more to the Liberal region and its history.

I will always remember the first time I saw Trails in the Sky SC's trailer, which uses Silver Will's Super Arrange version.

Silver Will is THE Trails theme for many people. Introduced as the major boss theme for the main antagonists of the first game, it’s mainly become associated with a certain character in particular who’s become infamous for tearing players a new one.

It's funny that you say this has to be used for a long drawn-out section because it's instead the Big Drama Fight song. They actually use the super arrange version itself in the second and third game, and if you want a vibe, then imagine the intro to it starting to play when, after a long conversation, the character hyped as the biggest badass in the whole world over the course of three games tells you "Defeat me. That is all."

There is one thing wanna to mention. There is a slower ending theme of the first chapter in game, which plays after our hero departing heroine in draumatic way, cause sorrow and memories. And then this opening cut in, signifying the determination our girl in love to move against destiny, and our hero defying the oppression and pain. If there is a chance, please enjoy that theme " The whereabouts of light"

I've been waiting for this :)
A video of the most important cutscene where this song plays is what got me into the Trails series !!
Back then the game was only in Japanese, I waited many long years being hyped by watching that video every day till I finally got to play it

  • @siverwrites

FC is just first chapter and SC second chapter. Trails in the Sky FC and SC are the first two games in the Trails series and the pair form one long story together. Sky is the first arc in the overall Trails series. I've played both four times each by now so I've heard this song plenty, but it's nice to just sit and listen and hone on things with you. That's generally something I really appreciate about your videos; just sit back with you and focus on the music.
There are several composers indeed! And a lot of use of leitmotifs. And this is a boss theme for some very specific important fights.

So in this game you are a member a guild and you get a guild handbook that tracks your quests and explains how the little spell focus machine works in-universe. The magic system is like a science where equipping x-amount of an element gives you these spells and there's a little section in the back that tells you, right from the beginning, all the combinations needed to get all the spells.
When you hear this song in game? You fight a dude that breaks out spells not in that book and they really fuck you up. The world-building makes it so that instead of the player just thinking "oh this guy is a boss so he just has a special ability" you go "Oh this guy is capable of shit beyond the knowledge of the global peacekeeping organization I work for, that's terrifying" and it means something lol

I'm very interested in seeing your take on this request of mine xP. I chose it mostly because it was a very powerful and emotional track for a very cool and interesting character (Also a boss battle theme! Trails does love to make you feel things while you fight :P). Also when I requested the Super Arrange I figured someone would do the original so my bad :P! The original has a much more upbeat vibe imho but I do feel like the super arrange captures the more emotional meaning behind this song.

If allowed to tease the story:
A broken heart with a branded melody, two young souls met, one shines, one to carry.
Shaded threat, covered by dark path. Hands with blood but kiss with love, brought unwilling slept.
As a star in night, unseen in sunrise, the wind unheld, the wings flew high.
Swords brought tears when devil whispered, shall the curse sundered by will of silver.
So there be the heroes of sky, with blades of justice and wings of light.

I am now very behind, I'll try to catch up with some this week. After this week finals are done which means I'll be able to keep up better.
This has a cool tone to it that I enjoy, it's up beat but not at the same time. It's like something is forcefully keeping it there which I find interesting. Good melodies, this brings the image of a character who is usually very happy but is in an intense mood due to some story reason. I like the chords at the start, I very much enjoyed this song.
Onto the Super Arrange version, this keeps the intensity but adds a more mature sounding spin to it. A more serious feel overall, the strings sound beautiful. It has a more melancholy vibe to it overall. A sentence actually popped into my mind with the solo "a hop and skip", a cool drop out at the end. I liked this one too.
Surprisingly I prefer the original, it has that classic vgm feel that I'm a sucker for.

FC and SC refer to First Chapter and Second Chapter
When Trails in the Sky was first made, it was intended that the entire thing would be one big game, but the game is LONG. So they divided it into
    Trails in the Sky FC
    Trails in the Sky SC
And Trails in the Sky the 3rd.

The Trails series (Trails in the Sky, Trails From Zero/Trails of Azure, Trails of Cold Steel, etc.) are all JRPGs in the traditional sense of that term: turn based combat, over the top special moves, a story that takes a *minimum* of forty to sixty hours to complete per game, and of course, a baller soundtrack to underpin it all. It can be a long slog to get through it all, but if you're looking to scratch your JRPG itch, it's highly recommended.
Just make sure to get a spoiler-free guide if you care about completion, because the games tend to be rife with missable quests, items, and lore. And in at least one game, you can miss out on the true ending if you are not careful.

    *massive spoilers ahead* *ididwarn*
I feel like context for the song is important. This is a theme of a certain character, Leonhardt the Bladelord, or just Loewe for friends, that mainly plays during the battle against him. At one point in his childhood he was living a peaceful life, until his own village was raised to the ground as part of the grand plan of Ouroboros, a worldwide terrorist organization, for a military invasion. It was barely a village, 36 people in total iirc, including his sister, died in the incident, so to maintain peace both governments decided to make sort of a pact to cover this entire thing and pretty much act like this village never existed.
Bitter from political maneuvering, hypocricy and full of resentment towards the world he joined Ouroboros himself, yet never lost his sense of justice and love towards life despite every hardship. Not knowing what to do with his life, he set his own goal: to test humankind, to see if they are capable of positive change or will just ruin themselves like so many times before. Losing everything he had in his life, Loewe had only one thing left: his unbending will.
Battle against Loewe is pretty much a penultimate fight in the second game, a culmination of 2 big RPG's, an ideological clash that can only end with one side conceding.
To me, this song always sounded almost kind, yet firm and always moving forward, an embodiment of a broken man trying to believe with all his heart in good, yet failing. Yet even at his worst he never gives up.

Had a developer who worked at Nihon Falcom in the 1980s didn't leave and form his own company, then later join Squaresoft, you wouldn't really have a Final Fantasy.
Dragon Slayer (later known as Legend of Heroes franchise) 1984.
    Dragon Quest 1986.
    Final Fantasy 1987.
Sora no Kiseki, is the 6th title in the mainline series with three chapters. (First, Second, Third).
EDIT: The numbering is confusing it seems, each 'title' could be numbered but each story arc could also be numbered.

The truth of Hamel tragedy should be disclosed to the public! People have the right to know what actually happened even though it may affect 'international security'. The peace relying on fake stories is just fake peace and is not fair to those who died and suffered so much in Hamel.
