Hello Joel. Very exciting chases, but it makes you wonder of the consequences, as justice and prison systems vary US to Europe. I commented before that my dad never carried a gun in thirty years in UK, but my first memory is of him on TV, kicking in the door at an armed siege for armed officers. I also commented how I rugby tackled a crashed car thief in my garden and handed him in to police. At first feeling proud,, I recalled a previous time I had chased someone trying to break into his car years back. He had told me off, for rushing in without knowing if the two would be thieves were armed. Best left to professional officers like these in the video.

Our police is also allowed to ram as last resort and if the ramming would prevent more injuries of bystanders than it could possibly cause. If that's not the case neigther police force does it and trys to prevent the need of ramming. Yes, whe do carry guns, but is verry rear to pull them. Normal citizens in the Netherlands are not allowed to carry weapens, so only criminals do..... 😆. They do, but even drawing their gun results in reams of paperwork that need to be filled out to justify it. The chased person always has the disadvantage of petrol. When a chasing police car runs out of petrol, another can take over. But, the chased car can't get some new petrol.
Rotterdam does have some issues with organised crime relating to drug smuggling at the Port of Rotterdam, most likely the situation with the guns was someone known to be armed and linked to organised crime.
It’s not like in America or Australia where the roads are wide and open it’s easy to get high speeds. The Netherlands and most of European cities have tight narrow streets so getting high speed pursuits aren’t going to happen. Great videos though 👍🏼

Maybe it is fun for you to watch a "normal" police officer during their shifts. There is JW who works for the national police (Landelijke eenheid) and does shifts in cities like Utrecht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam etc. Ususally with an officer of the unit he is visiting but also solo. These chases are (fortunately) quite extreme and don't occur often. This compilation video is actually not that good, it only contains the last few seconds of each chase from the orginal video... The first case was drugs related, the driver was just not able to think straight. So was the second. The police doing a pit manouvre is the very last resort any police officer would avoid like the plague. Sometimes it is just necessary: that first car drove on the sliproad to a highway, against traffic, while under the influence. The main difference with the US police is the organization and availability of colleagues, so any chase can end quicky and safely. I am enjoying these videos, but as a brit it is slightly funny seeing the car choices, VW sherans, VW transporters not exactly pursuit cars, our bobbies have the standard Vauxhall astra and other cheap crap cars, but pursuits are done in high powered golf R, BMW 3 or 5 series, new Volvo estate R models and that sort of things. if you can't get away from the dutch police in a VW transporter you should never drive again.

Our police is also allowed to ram as last resort and if the ramming would prevent more injuries of bystanders than it could possibly cause. If that's not the case neigther police force does it and trys to prevent the need of ramming. I love how at 3:27 they don't even draw their gun (idk wether the Dutch Police even carry guns). I feel like in the US both of the officers would of had their guns out as soon as they leave the car. Thats one of the many benefits of not having a heavily armed population.
Yes, whe do carry guns, but is verry rear to pull them. Normal citizens in the Netherlands are not allowed to carry weapens, so only criminals do..... 😆. In normal interaction or trafic stops, it is not to be expected to encounter firearms. Whe carry pepperspray, a batton and a taser. Using our service pistol is a last resort....

They do, but even drawing their gun results in reams of paperwork that need to be filled out to justify it. In the video too with the black Range Rover, they fired warning shots in the air - and that too results in another ream of paperwork to fill out, plus a judicial review (if I remember correctly). For @MoreJps at 9:55 - the reason the officers had their guns out is that they received information that the suspect was possibly armed, and they perform a "BTGV" (Benaderings Techniek Gevaarlijke Verdachte) procedure. Translates (loosely) to "approach technique for dangerous suspect".

In the video they said the suspect is dangerous and may be armed. That was a technique to approach individual like that. I don’t think they shot the suspect but rather the tires of the vehicle
The chased person always has the disadvantage of petrol. When a chasing police car runs out of petrol, another can take over. But, the chased car can't get some new petrol.

Rotterdam does have some issues with organised crime relating to drug smuggling at the Port of Rotterdam, most likely the situation with the guns was someone known to be armed and linked to organised crime.

It’s not like in America or Australia where the roads are wide and open it’s easy to get high speeds. The Netherlands and most of European cities have tight narrow streets so getting high speed pursuits aren’t going to happen. Great videos though 👍🏼
The use of firearms by police in the Netherlands is very rare. Not only compared to the US (because that would be cheating) but compared to many countries in Europe as well. Especially given our position as entryway to Europe with Schiphol and Rotterdam Harbor. The shots at the car were most likely warningshots. Use of firearms is permitted when they are attacked with a deadly weapon (the reversing of the car counting as use of a deadly weapon) but warningshots are of course mandatory.
Maybe it is fun for you to watch a "normal" police officer during their shifts. There is JW who works for the national police (Landelijke eenheid) and does shifts in cities like Utrecht, Amsterdam, Rotterdam etc. Ususally with an officer of the unit he is visiting but also solo. He does both shifts on motorbike and in marked cars. Highly recommended, new vids every Sunday. His channel is called "Politievlogger Jam Willem"

Whe do not have personal weapons or rifles in the car. It is verry rear to pull your weapen in the Netherlands and it is only allowed in case you are actualy alowed to use it, whitch is verry strictly regulated. In case of the chase with the Range Rover, there was probably info of weapons in the car, or they where preveously involved in a incident where weapons where used, whitch started the chase. The Range Rover had foreign license plates.....

Performing a pit manouvre is not a common thing here. The poliice vehicles are not equiped with bullbars or any other protection.......

A lot of them actually have "hidden bullbars", Dutch police cars are anything but spec, depending on where the car is used (Rotterdam harbor, border with Germany, rural area's, etc) it will have some upgrade package that you usually can't see on the outside.
They draw their guns, because that suspect was armed, which is crazy in Holland.

The first two chases had been going on for a while, you only got to see the last moments. That Ford Focus with the flat tyre and the sparks coming of it was attempting to get on the highway driving in the wrong direction. That's just to much of a risk to the general public, that's why they pitted him
The first driver drove against the direction and crushed in many cars, so a fast pit manouver, was necessary to avoid more damage.

Within city limits the main concern is of course the safety of everybody else - who are there, and not expecting cars going across the streets.
Btw ‘BTGV’ stands for Benaderings Techniek Gevaarlijke Verdachte: approach protocol dangerous suspect. So when the officer shouts "BTGV”, that’s when you see the firearms - there must be a previous chapter to the clip.
BTGV is especially a thing calling for radiosilence, as they than expect that someone (or even the perp itself) could be listening in on the radio-communication and thus this could give him or her an advantage they don't want them to have.
There's not much that happened before that clip, the car was impounded by police earlier and one or two perps gained entrance by force and took the car from the impound lot again. Especially this got police on edge: they usually don't fire so many warning shots without so little advance verbal warning or time between drawing the fire arm and the shot itself.

second last clip is 3 minutes walk from where i lived, zaagmolenstraat in Rotterdam (its a hellhole but alas). The reason why they shot is probably because the suspect was 'vuurwapengevaarlijk' aka he had a firearm, which the police really doesnt like

On the cars not stopping, if you stole the car and get away they are not knocking on your door, they are telling the owner. Many of these will be drink and drug related with a helping of 'mental health' and stolen cars on top ;-)

These chases are (fortunately) quite extreme and don't occur often. This compilation video is actually not that good, it only contains the last few seconds of each chase from the orginal video...
The first case was drugs related, the driver was just not able to think straight. So was the second. The police doing a pit manouvre is the very last resort any police officer would avoid like the plague. Sometimes it is just necessary: that first car drove on the sliproad to a highway, against traffic, while under the influence.

The main difference with the US police is the organization and availability of colleagues, so any chase can end quicky and safely. And don't forget that there is no gun violence, and if there is, there is a special police force to tackle those rare situations.
I am enjoying these videos, but as a brit it is slightly funny seeing the car choices, VW sherans, VW transporters not exactly pursuit cars, our bobbies have the standard Vauxhall astra and other cheap crap cars, but pursuits are done in high powered golf R, BMW 3 or 5 series, new Volvo estate R models and that sort of things. if you can't get away from the dutch police in a VW transporter you should never drive again.
