What I like about this particular rollcage is that you could literally set up a tent in the back and still be protected by the rollbars. Is it possible to add diamond screens to the back to make it secure when you carry cargo? The best part....no bulky camper shell that makes it hard to see while freeway driving and changing lanes. Just take down the tent to have full visibility again.
That is pretty sweet brother... I was fighting with an external or internal cage. I have a bender, maybe I will try and creat this design, or order the kit and add, loos like 1 1/2 bar? Good stuff!!
87 isn't the end of this body style, 73-91 is the same other than very, very, very small changes. Biggest changes were the fenders hood and grille. This cage will work with up to 1991 k5s
Does Kirk provide the kicker bar, because in another gentlemen's video with this same cage, he was only provided with the A pillar, B pillar, and halo bar for inside the cab
Hey I have a 1992 ford bronco custom version eith the tire carrier on the inside. I was wondering if you put a roll cage can you still put your top back on for the winter?
Ok, quick question: what's with the Colorado hat? Do you have any idea how stoked I'd be if you were in my home state,? lol. Also can't believe this video is 7 years old. Damn I need to finish my K5.
So the kit itself comes with the cage under the roof in the cab and you added the whole rear end of it? Or did you just add the two bars in the middle of the rear and the strength bars you notched?
Merricks Garage ohh okay. Thanks for replying brotha. Do you know if he'd sell me the c pillar bars along with the kit? I tried emailing him but he didn't respond
I'm looking to do the same thing with my '75. I'm on the fence about going thru the dash or in front. My main concern going thru the dash is the routing of the HVAC ducting. I want to be able to keep all that. Is yours still functional? I absolutely hate the look of the cage in front of the dash and really don't want to have to use it if I don't have to.
Great video. I have 2 questions. does the cage go through the dash or in front of it and assuming you had to weld inside the truck, how did you handle the sparks?
Merricks Garage sorry I just saw this. Yes I was. I'm trying to decide on buying my own pipe or going with the kit. I have access to a bender but I really like how the kit is joined together.
Do not get a flux core spend the money buy a mig setup flux core is the worst possible weld to use for a roll cage, it is guaranteed to snap. The machine he's using in the video is a true mig setup
if you dont have a lot of experience welding. dont do it. the cage strength all comes down to the welds. dont trust your life with bird sh** welds. im just lookin out for people thats all. cage looks awsome though. yes im a certified welder
I heard that in the first minute and wanted to turn it off, but I only came here to learn about the cage. either way some of the worst and possibly deadliest advice I've ever heard on youtube

+James Merrick sorry if u thought of my reply as condencending wasn't trying to be. just being honest. what u need to know is looks has absolutely zero to do with my comment. telling someone even tho they have never welded before to tackle a roll cage is literally srupid. if u get hurt hurt about that then that sucks for you. I'm not sorry. but it is true. I get, teaching urself to weld but the only way to get good and be able to properly identify a good weld from a bad is from EXPERIENCE. and when u talk about the first project being a roll cage. something designed to save a life in the worst case scenario.. sorry, I don't think that's the smartest idea ever
You are the shit! credentials? none. That is beautiful! I have a TH-cam channel for beginners too, where I am completely honest about that very fact! it is unedited and extremely unfiltered. viewer discretion is mandatory. It's called Billy Damnit. do not watch if you are easily offended. I am not promoting it and I don't care about "likes" and subscribers. i just upload them for fun

Unless you have a 1/2 ton pick up, then 87 is the cut off for the square body.
do you have anything on how you made the bracket for the M3 seats?
It’s just square tube. It’s pretty ghetto
what's dust like with soft top? with sides up does it still swirl inside? thanks
I am interested in just the rear part of the cage from the B frame back, how can I get that?
nice work man
Just bought a 75 K5 blazer. Is this the whole kit you have?
Does Kirk provide the kicker bar, because in another gentlemen's video with this same cage, he was only provided with the A pillar, B pillar, and halo bar for inside the cab
I like how the A pillars turn under the dash before they hit the floor pan, but looks like it interferes with the ebrake?? What'd you do?
Merricks Garage Copy that. sorry to hear of your mis-fortune @ KOH. Hope the family is all good!
Hey I have a 1992 ford bronco custom version eith the tire carrier on the inside. I was wondering if you put a roll cage can you still put your top back on for the winter?

So that wont work for a 1990 squarebody K5?
No it will work just fine.
Hows the visibility?
Perfect
@@MerricksGarage i was gonna order only the b pillar and family bars until i saw your roll over video lol. Thanks for that and glad you’re ok 👍

+James Merrick Thanks man! I was thinking maybe making new ducting out of fiberglass.

+James Merrick what car are they from

Wow. Thanks for answering. I'm building mine to be a nice daily. I guess I'll get a blanket. Great video

I want my first truck to be a 1983 lv Chevy blazer I think I might leave it hard top due to kids at school like to destroy nice stuff

NEGATIVE ON FLUX CORE. Never flux core weld or mig weld roll cages. Roll cages need to be TIG welded
What? Says who?
