    Awesome video. I noticed that the end result leaves shiny rubber on the bottom of resoled part of the shoe. Do you sand this down to give it that matt black sticky surface? Usually climbing shoe companies that sell rubber sheets send you a shiny side ( which is sanded down and glued onto the shoe) and a nicely evenly sanded side ( this is the side that touches the rock)

    Hey I'm learning how to resole my own shoes and I had a question. I'm having a lot of trouble getting the rubber to bend over the edge well. What is that material that your pressing the shoe down into after applying the new sole? Thanks for making this video. I learned a lot from it.

  • @AdamA-l8c
    @AdamA-l8c ปีที่แล้ว

    did you leave a bit of the old rubber or did you remove it fully i have found removing the whole old rubber tends to make the sheo come out of shape or the rand layer may peel, maybe sanding down until there is about only 1mm or less of old rubber then applying new rubber

    I really like the DIY shoe press! can you tell me how you made it please? What is the box off? What sort of Jack is that? What did you put over and under the shoe/last?

    • @squamishstu
      @squamishstu  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey man I welded the box myself out of steel to fit the POWER sole press pad sold by Landis. The jack is just a extra car jack I had laying around which I smoothed the top out to be more friendly to the uppers, I also put a scrap piece of rubber in between the jack and the shoe.

    • @themurderofcoke
      @themurderofcoke ปีที่แล้ว

      Are there any lower cost alternatives for a press? The vice and all is fine but the pad is $330 CAD + shipping and everything, nearly $500. I'm not running a business, I am trying to learn to repair my own climbing shoes and hopefully get good enough to fix my friends as well. Are there any pads, or anything I can can at least in the meantime to act similarly?

      Hey buddy thanks. You can find last online, I got the ones in the video from a leather shop. They were an ordinary boot last that I got a few sizes bigger then my foot then I used my belt sander to shape them into the shape of a katana. I actually ust got a full line of flat and downturned lasts from lasportiva this week which im excited to start using but to get your hands on those you have to be an authorized lasportiva resoler unfortunately.
