Oh my god. The secret history is a good book, yes, the characters are so disturbing. I also kinda loved how most of the time just.... nothing happened. And it feels so realistic because of the way it's written. Like there is no extreme tension, no constant action and people act like people. Not everything turns out alright. But also not everything turns out bad.
Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, is most definitely God tier! It’s the one book that make me blubber like a child ever time. I always feel envious when it’s someone first time reading this beautiful book. In a heartbeat I sell my soul to the Morning star to read this book for the very first time again. ☺️ And Mary Shelley herself is a Queen! Absolutely beautiful she is.
The author of Go Ask Alice is Beatrice Sparks. She was a therapist and a Mormon youth counselor. After it was published a woman approached her to edit a journal from her son who died from s*ic*de and hoped for good intentions but Sparks took the story and added a bunch of stuff that horrified the boys family
i really enjoyed paradise rot. the vibe is immaculate. it is like it consumes you and you are rotting inside the belly of the book. idek but this is just how it felt. i felt like the girl being consumed by the house was me with the book. i just finished it but I want to read it again.
what i really enjoy about the virgin suicides is how it describes the horror of American suburbia especially as a woman/girl. I feel like I really related to it when i read it based on my experiences We were liars is one of my favorites as well. It just really resonated for me, but I get why it doesn't work for people .
I always love finding booktubers with similar tastes as me! I'm not a big fan of fantasy and YA, but sometimes it seems like I can't escape it. Can't wait to see more from you :)
i felt so bad for the "monster" (i don't like calling it the monster because it is definitely not a monster) that i continuously talked about how it deserved better to my friends who haven't even read the book. i even argued with my english teacher who took Frankenstein's side! i was so sad after reading Frankenstein and i love Mary Shelley (she's so cool according to some of the weird facts i've read about her lmao). "what is a soul? let's not get too existential on a booktube channel" haha i love your humour xD i added all the books to my TBR list, wishing you luck with this channel! :)
this comes just as i’ve been asking around for book recommendations - perfect! i’d love a video on your process behind writing, if you have a ritual or habit or specific setting you like to write in. super keen to see more, and of course your look is flawless too.
i really agree with we were liars being a hit or a miss, i was scared to read it because it was so hyped up so when i started reading it i turned off my prejudice and when i read the ending it really got me. it starts off kinda boring and stays very monotone then that part comes and HHRRHHEHRAARGHH. i remember being in utter shock
Late to the party for watching and commenting on this vid, but just wanted to say as likely the oldest book dude out here, I enjoy hearing about you discovering the “classics.” I too read many of them at your age and found myself sometimes mystified by the whole enterprise, but I’ve been very surprised and poignantly inspired by how many of them start to click in my memory as I’ve gotten older. The subconscious is an amazing factory and never stops working. Books I read back when I was 20 suddenly hit me decades later and clear themselves a horizon in my soul I never could have imagined when I was 20. Don’t ever stop feeding your imagination, young lady. That way madness lies.
Your fashion sense, omg........... I haven't read any of these books (what a shame) but, I've taken it upon myself to read them all because they are all AMAZING
I was just thinking of my own list and how We Were Liars would be on it before you held it up and I am so happy that you included it because it's stunning!!
The fraud who wrote Go Ask Alice was "Dr." Beatrice Sparks, a very conservative Mormon who also wrote a number of other pretended diaries from troubled teens. They all have the same writing style and idiosyncrasies, as well as many obvious Mormon references, though some are marginally better than others. I've not yet read Go Ask Alice, but I've read probably five other of her books. What she did to the family of the young man who wrote about 25 real entries in her second edited book, Jay's Journal, was beyond horrible.
I knew The Secret History would be here, Im reading it right now and its amazing, Im afraid I havent read most of these books but Im also a HUGE fan of Frankenstein, its an amazing book that Im never tired of recommending, Im definetly going to check out the other books, thank you.
I love your style😍😍😍 Keep it up with the videos, I'm also starting a Booktube channel soon, I'm from Chile so I read and speak in Spanish but your channel is so inspiring to watch 🤎 Amazing video
Im glad someone appreciates we were liars in the same way I did, I get why some people might not like it especially because tiktok has greatly overhyped it but I really enjoyed it too.
No one asked, but here is my input: I would sell my soul not to read 'The Catcher in the Rye' for the first time again, but to already have read it a thousand times. Because it gets so much better with every read. I’m sorry, I know Dakota hates that book.
I skipped the secret history and vow to buy it tomorrow, I can't wait. someone dear also recommended it after i'd finished Babel: an arcane history, which absolutely gave me the feeling that I saw in this.
I absolutely love picknick at hanging rock. What did you think of the series? I agree with your conclusion of frankenstein. It’s also the reason why i love this book.
Hey Dakota, could you read out the best premises/ passages/ dialogues from the books you recommend so that we size each book up and fathom the style and pastiche and other things.... 💕💕💕💕💕 Oodles of love 💞💞💞💞💞
I am trying to make a book. I love reading occult and theoretical, science's, I am no tourist. So,anyways I knoticed you love to read as well;uh, in my book it is like a procession of Theosis in theology, as well as a lessor known cosmological ontology normally spoken by word of mouth and kept seceret as they are know to be intrinsicly herictical, so I wrote a few different ones down, and happened to realize it was real. Would one such as yourself be interested in reading it, beloved one? There is a link in my about on here.I would love a critique from you. I think you have a majestic mind.
omg u have to do video vlogs or anything about your fashion style in the future

Nothing would happen for pages yet I was still hooked
Why are the characters disturbing??
@@euseo well there's incest and betrayal and sexual assault
AND MURDER
I just finished it today, and I feel like I can’t read another book right now, because nothing seems like it’ll be the same.
the dark academic vibes are IMMACULATE and I will always subscribe to people who read classics 🙈 so so happy I found you!

i found Go Ask Alice when i was like 11 yo through my school’s library and i was TRAUMATIZED 😭 it def stuck with me all these years

tbh i felt bad for both the monster and the man, it was all around a very sad (and beautiful) story
this comes just as i’ve been asking around for book recommendations - perfect! i’d love a video on your process behind writing, if you have a ritual or habit or specific setting you like to write in. super keen to see more, and of course your look is flawless too.
WE NEED VLOGS TOO

Your fashion sense, omg...........
I haven't read any of these books (what a shame) but, I've taken it upon myself to read them all because they are all AMAZING
I feel like that about only one book - Master and Margarita
frankenstein and the secret history are my two fav books of all time!!
I was just thinking of my own list and how We Were Liars would be on it before you held it up and I am so happy that you included it because it's stunning!!
ive been waiting for this!!!!!!
love your choice of style/aesthetic so much. definitely going to keep watching :)
I salute your passion for books. The world needs more ardent readers.
Someone else finally talking about Go Ask Alice! Such a powerful book - i also read it when I thought it was a real journal
UGH YES! 👏 Great choices, happy to finally have clicked on a video that offered some variety from the typical “go to” recommendations. Thank you!
The fraud who wrote Go Ask Alice was "Dr." Beatrice Sparks, a very conservative Mormon who also wrote a number of other pretended diaries from troubled teens. They all have the same writing style and idiosyncrasies, as well as many obvious Mormon references, though some are marginally better than others. your background is so beautiful!!!
omg i love your aesthetic, subbed immediately!
I too read Go Ask Alice thinking it was a journal. Found it at a thrift shop about a decade ago.
I'd sell my soul to be with you and I'd bear the eternal punishment just with the memories - Otelo, William Shakespeare.
Omg I love We Were Liars too! One of my fav books of all time. 😭
All these books match your vibe so perfectly.,...,,,
yyour aesthetic is so cute the pics and your style ughhh so good

Frankenstein is one of my favorite classics !

I knew The Secret History would be here, Im reading it right now and its amazing, Im afraid I havent read most of these books but Im also a HUGE fan of Frankenstein, its an amazing book that Im never tired of recommending, Im definetly going to check out the other books, thank you.

No one asked, but here is my input:
