One could just imagine what the musical scores for this masterpiece look like. To commit this Solo piece to memory and execute with such mastery is truly the work of a Genius.
No banging of notes, just gently grooving the notes into play. Subtoning is unparalleled, phrasing is unmatched. This Steeldrum maestro has no equals. Long live this veteran !! 👏 🙏
Any person who possesses the testicular fortitude, the guts , the balls to negatively critique this musical genius...is a flat out HATER. Long live Robert Greenidge !!!
Gifted, gifted and double gifted ...Robert is! Such an amazing talent! We have been blessed to have shared the stage in California from time to time. He is a man we all hold in the highest regards and then some!
What a Joy you have brought to all Pannist and Pan Lovers Worldwide. RG you are an Ambassador of T+T and a Musical Genius taking our pan music to the TOP. Thanks.
steel pan/steel pan orchestras..imagined, conceptualized, created, produced, perfected by Trinidadians (Trinidad/Tobago) out of oppressive conditions,; created from empty oil barrels when their skin drums were banned by colonists, and developed into orchestras with up to 200 musicians, with multiple sections of variety of steel pan instruments, to give a full orchestral range of sound.. bass, cello, tenor, etc. etc.....and composed and arranged complex music for these instrumental orchestras with large percussion sections, known as engine rooms, with percussion instruments created in Trinidad/Tobago as well...a true black art form at a minimum on par with jazz, blues, Rn B, classical, etc. music,......calypso, soca, rapso, limbo, etc. all emanated from the beautiful twin islands Trinidad&Tobago...oneluv TnT....Trini2DaBone
This is unbelievable artistry, class, genius and mastery!! The Caribbean's own modern day Beethoven, Mozart and Tchaikovsky rolled into one man on pan. This should be a world heritage preservation. Big up to T&T. As a Barbadian, it would be a gross tragedy and travesty if the T&T government does not preserve this cultural treasure.
they too busy since Dr. Eric William's times stealing and not having any national pride nor future thinking to preserve shit!! not Trinidadian but I am a Trini.
If only I can see this guy on prime time Tv..The world needs to know this talent exist. Oh I know he is very popular, top in his class but he deserves to be among the renowned virtuosos of the world..
His MASTERY of this instrument is why he is a "guest" musician on the 1st instrumental album of the GREAT Sonny Landreth, "Elemental Journey". Other "guests" were Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson. How's that for "company"?
@XXleobodybuilerXX: What's your credentials ? RG has International Fame and Recognition and is an Icon World Wide . RG is one of our HEROES here in T+T and throughout the Pan and Music World, so please think again before you condemn . HE IS BRILLIANT IN HIS PERFORMANCES . Thanks .
The piece is fabulous to the one that thinks it is garbage, where can i find your composition here on You tube.. SURELY YOU KNOW THAT OF WHICH YOU SPEAK AND CAN BACK IT UP WITH SOME SOLID EXAMPLES
Weird point here, but is anyone else just as jealous of his pan stand as his playing? I detest every stand I've ever tried for double seconds - they're always either unweildy, weak, or restrictive... His just looks perfect! Wish I knew where to find one!
Why people who cant even come close in their dreams speak ill of him and his performance. "How can you judge what I do if you don't understand What I do"
I must confess, after 33 years in the Pan Fraternity, I'm still baffled as to why the "Mozart of Pan" just can't seem to get the sweetness coming out of the instrument like Robbie. No disrespect meant to Boogsie though.
This is no piece, it's a solo, which is why it is so unbelievable. Also, critics don't have to partake in the thing they are criticizing, it doesn't mean they are flawed in their opinion though. Movie critics and reviewers do not make movies, they just watch a lot of them.
@richseth Well I have to agree. Hang is one of the very few instruments that I actively dislike. Its tone, its ethos and its followers all make me sick. It is just a rip-off, pure and simple.
Steel pan is an incredibly unique and rich cultural instrument, you are right. However, you are being nothing short of ignorant if you believe nobody should ever produce a new sort of instrument that is any way based off one before it. Enjoy the sound of a piano? Guitar? Trumpet? Any modern instruments? They're all cheap gimmicky knock-offs of a previous design (read: product evolution).

He's awesome! I love his little riffs with the soft undertones under it.
