  • I catch my personal best native brook trout while exploring the higher elevations of the Nantahala National Forest during the late summer months. What a great time to explore new water and this was a special day that I will not soon forget!

That was a nice native! I've pulled a few whoppers like that myself in the Pisgah all from very small streams. Amazing how they thrive in those smaller pools. Beautiful fish and awesome video!

Thank you! I agree-it’s always a pleasant surprise to pull a bigger fish out of some of the tiniest streams! So cool how they survive and thrive in such small water.

Nice job! I fished this area at the end of August. I think it was a little too warm at the time. That terrain is tough to fish, but beautiful. How long is that rod?

Thank you! You’re right-it takes some work to fish up through there but is absolutely gorgeous. I was using a 7’ 6” 3wt rod that day. I know some people go even shorter for those tiny streams but I’ve been very happy with that size. Thanks for watching!

@@ColbertOutdoors that's the same size I used. That Brookie you caught will give me hope next time I'm trying to climb through those rhododendrons!
