I worked at a movie theater for like half a year and there was only one time that there was anyone who wanted to walk into the theater to buy popcorn without a movie ticket. That confused the hell out of me when the guy asked and the manager on duty was like go ahead.
Maybe that guy was Mother? That’s not normal in the slightest, the fact mother thinks that’s normal probably means he need to probably lay off the edibles. XD

Popcorn:
0. Get large pot with lid, scales, mixing bowl and chopsticks/spoon
1. Add oil to pot (10 grams per person works roughly) and heat on medium to low
2. put 1-3 popcorn kernel(s) in and add lid
3. weigh 50g kernels per person (bear in mind if you need a lot you are going to need a bigger pot. Small batches are easier)
4. wait for pot kernels to pop
5. Remove pot kernels with chopsticks or spoon and add weighed kernels (dispose or eat if they popped well) and put lid back on
6. Wait for pops, toss the pot when you hear the popping frequency decrease and repeat.
7. When tossing no longer helps the pops, the popping frequency is less than 1 per second or you start to smell slight burning, remove from heat and serve into mixing bowl
8. Add cinnamon sugar/salt/pepper/whatever the frick you want and toss the popcorn around
9. Serve into bowls or if you are happy to share the container, in the mixing bowl.
Be aware of unpopped popcorn, but with this method there should only be 2-3 per 50g.

As somebody who loves movie theatre popcorn, this is a mood.
And for those that say it doesn’t taste different it totally does 😭😭😭 there’s such a difference between the waxy fake ass oil in a microwave bag vs the real melted butter they put in popcorn at the theatres.
I was walking around the mall once and got hungry but the food court had rly shit food choices. I looked at my mom and said I’d be back. I walked my happy ass to the movie theatre, nervously asked the desk lady if I was allowed to just come in to buy popcorn and go, she said yes, I went past them, got my small popcorn, and met back up with my mom.
My mom started laughing at first then patted my head and said “I love you so much” while still laughing. and I continued to happily eat my popcorn as she went around the mall looking for a Christmas present for my niece.
There is just something about eating freshly popped popcorn that ain’t artificial. It just tastes better, especially when it’s warm 😌

Eh, I don't think you'd need to buy a ticket at the theater I'm at. The people who actually check your tickets are past the area where you're buying concessions. And the people who sell concessions aren't checking to make sure you have a ticket. It would be foolish for them to place such a restriction on this too, since selling popcorn and candy and whatnot is where most of their profit margins are made.

Movie theater popcorn is indeed special. I havn't found any coconut+butter machine that can replicate that.
But i would'nt go and buy them like that and go home. 10 USD is a lot for a small tub popcorn and a drink(which i have to buy).
From what I’ve done, the recipe listed in a video from The King of Random is identical if not exactly the movie theater recipe.
Was gonna say, as he mentions TKOR uses flavacol, everything I've ever seen mentioned in regards to movie theater popcorn, the magic is in the flavacol.

As someone who worked at a movie theater for several years and has had home-made popcorn cooked in the microwave, the stove and a popcorn popper... movie theater popcorn is absolutely different and overall better than the stuff you pop at home. That said, I still think it's weird to go to a movie theater to buy it because it's more expensive.

There is no good reason to eat microwave popcorn. Literally every aspect of it is out performed by traditional popcorn. It is cheaper. It tastes better and you can make it taste anyflavor you like including made up ones. It takes about the same time make. You dont even necesserily have wash the pan because all that was in it was oil. It is healthier if you make it so. And if all of that was not enough it feels more luxurius than microwave popcorn.

There’s absolutely a difference. It also makes sense to go to movies to get popcorn if you want to do that I’d never do it but it’s not a crazy idea.

There is a HUGE difference between theatre and regular popcorn.
Just came back to here to say that I discovered that you can do Movie Teather popcorn at home, you just have to use clarified butter, which you can also easily make, so no more need to spend lot of money on them neither going on trips to the movie teather just to buy it

I have gone to the movie theater as it's closing and have gotten a trash bag full of popcorn. I have successfully done this 3 times out of probably asking maybe 8-10ish times?

I can see both arguments.
On one hand it is a waste of resources to get slightly better but overall overcosted food (not even counting higher costs for getting it, since there are way less cinemas than shops that sell packaged popcorn.)
But on a personal level, value is what we decide to spend our money on. If it's worth to them, then it's all good and understandable.
ya gotta consider vedal's movie theater might have an incompetent working the popcorn machine or they might be using microwave popcorn instead of the good stuff.

Blow your mind, AMC is now selling their popcorn in stores now, uses the same sourced corn, oil and flavor additive. It's pretty close to what you get in the theater. Most other microwave popcorn does not taste to what you can get at the theater.

What I do is go to theater buy a large popcorn and a soda. The popcorn has a free refill. I get the refill after I’m done watching the movie.

"Mother" is right. Home popcorn has to put calorie and salt content on their labels. Movie theaters do not. That's why a steak at home will never taste as good as the one at the restaurant unless you're dunking it in butter.
The popcorn in movie theaters isn't really any different than the microwave popcorn, it just has a crap load of butter, that's what makes it taste different. So the microwave popcorns with a lot of butter taste the same.
Yeah, kettle popcorn, with a mix of salt and melted butter sprinkled well, is practically what the popcorn in the movie theater is. If the butter is fresh out of the fryer, it tastes better; literally that...

Popcorn is popcorn but buy the flavorcol salt and the oil butter topping they use. Use your resources how you want if you have enough buy a theater and live in it.

Step 1:
Take a pot of your choosing, and make sure it's the same size or similar to your bowl of choosing.
Step 2:
Fill the bottom of the pot with popcorn.
Step 3:
Add either vegetable oil or sunflower oil, use olive oil if you must, but it would ruin the taste.
Step 4:
Add salt as much as you want. And place a lid on top.
Step 5: For gas stoves, medium-high heat is enough and for electric stoves, set it to 8.
Step 6:
Shake the pot from time to time.
Step 7:
If the popping has stopped or there is very little, take it off the stove and let it cool off, then pour it into a bowl and enjoy. Butter is optional.
And that's how you make homemade popcorn

ok if I have to drive either way the store is closer than the theater I buy more than one thing of popcorn for my popcorn machine, unless the movie theater is literally that much better than my machine.
Im looking at this hypothetically because I do not own any such device, but considering how coffee is, I assume some people are connoisseurs of the stuff. Its not that crazy to do what mother is saying here, but I personally would never care enough. On the other hand, movie theater popcorn is definitely top tier at any decent theater. pre-packaged stuff is not as good as non-microwaved fresh popped, but better than microwaved. Microwaved varies from terrible to acceptable depending on the brand, getting the time and power level right, and if your microwave has a shitty or epic popcorn button. but also making it on the stove is literally too much work and I would probably never buy the machine. having the machine makes this significantly more bizarre. the theater I usually go to doesn't even let you buy popcorn till you get a ticket to the movies.

All you need is Flavacol and some theater butter, which you can easily order online. Is amazing, but flossing is mandatory. F-tier snack food for that alone
I consider myself lucky that I don't like popcorn now that it makes my stomach sick when I eat it, so... I don't have to worry about buying it myself, and don't have to form an opinion on people's evaluation of the worth of popcorn made at the theater vs. in your own home.
