Family dog finds 11-year-old boy under several feet of rubble after mudslide during Helene

- A family said their dog rescued their 11-year-old grandson from a mudslide in the mountains. The child is in the Charlotte area now being treated at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Jeff Gordon Children’s Center.
Jamie Parker and his dog Tucker have always been inseparable.
“I probably would have died if it wasn’t for Tucker,” the little boy told WCNC Charlotte.
When Hurricane Helene barreled through in late September, the bond between the two of them was everything.
"It was terrifying for me,” Jamie said.
The two were at home with his grandparents and sister Jemma, not far from Asheville, when a mudslide slammed into their house.

I’ve watched some awful things on TH-cam through this catastrophe but this had me in tears, just $4,000.00 away from paying off the mortgage and that blessed little boy being saved by his dog, who he saved from a shelter, it’s just too much. How are these good people coping. It’s in Gods hands now. I will be praying for you all.

@@pinkrosessheila sadly, yes. I work with them every day, the kids that is. 40% of our households don’t even have a father/husband in it. We see ourselves as separate from others.

I can't imagine living my life without a dog. My 10 lb Chihuahua started notifying me when my blood sugars were low without any training.
What a good dog! It's amazing what they can smell and understand.

My Chihuahua knew my grandma was passing away. She kept running up to me and then running to the door. Sometimes she'd go under the bed and she stayed out of my grandmother's room. I kept asking her "Bama what's going on with you?" After it happened I realized she wanted me to leave as she knew my grandmother was going to pass away in the house. All of that behavior was very unusual for her. She lived for many years from the time I was ten till I was twenty two. Then she herself passed away. That dog was more family to me than alot of family members.
I got a chihuahua who bonds with people who need him, he feels their trauma and just sticks to them like gum, won’t leave them snuggles like chewed up gum stuck on em, you try to go near them and he’ll fight you, he knows that person is suffering….it’s wild ❤ dogs know. It’s not everyone it’s in extreme cases

What a wonderful story, but tragic that the family lost everything. And Tucker is the reason to adopt from shelters! They saved his life three year ago and now Tucker saved the little boy's life.

I dont know if it's my CPTSD screaming but that's not normal. Old man sounds like he has disassociated from who those kids are and there is probably something bad happening in the dark.
1. I’ve never had my own home and not financially able to pay for her second home.
2. The man is visibly traumatized. He doesn’t mean anything grim by his words, he’s addressing the reporter and expressing how helpless he felt when he couldn’t find the little guy. In my rural area this is a totally normal way to speak, the kids, my boy, the girls. Totally normal. Pls don’t blame the victims trying to survive something so terrible.
Animals are so special. Loyal, loving, pure hearts. I hope this beautiful family can find a home together. ✝✝

Such wonderful nurses to help out the family, Tucker was the little boys angel,broke my heart when the little boy said Tucker was the last one to be adopted and Tucker ran right up to them,Tucker knew he was wanted and needed for this family.

I rescued a kitten once, a tiny skinny dehydrated baby I found abandoned. I took her home and raised her. A few years later she saved my life. I was walking in my yard and had picked kitty up, and was snuggling her. I stopped for a few seconds, and out of the corner of my eye I saw what I thought was a large stick along side my right foot. Kitty started fussing and wanting to get down. So I let her down, and it was then that the 'stick' slithered away. It was a deadly King Brown. One more step....I saved her, she save me also. Never underestimate the wonder of a pet.
Aren’t dogs great? My dog is my best friend. I give her a hug every morning and tell her she is gift from God. When someone is upset she goes up to them and lays her head on their lap. She has never growled in her life. She has put up with five grandchildren and she has broken in three puppies. I am so glad they rescued the dog And then he ends up saving the little boy’s life

Its a miracle they all lived through that traumatic event.
While some horrible person in Florida left his dog chained to a fence with water already covering some of his legs, a policeman rescued the dog while a dog in NC rescued this precious boy. If only all humans had/have the love for humans and pets that pets have for humans.

This is the purest love and survival story I have heard yet come out of this disaster. The children Jamie and jema rescued such a beautiful dog Tucker and he just repaid his debt to them by saving the young boy! That is what a best friend is, the kind of friend who will always have your back, the kind who will everyone around know where you are, that's the kind of dog that Tucker is to Jamie and his sister. Tucker was just repaying his best friend back for saving his own life 3 years ago. He knew without a doubt that Jamie was in trouble and stayed where he was just so everyone would know where his best buddy was so that they could get him out. Good Boy Tucker!
