    I'm another one of those older kids at 76 starting to build a layout. Enjoy every moment, it was fun in the 50's and even better today!

    I LOVE this train set! I actually own this set myself for over 20 years, and out of all of my Lionel trains, this is still my favorite train set. Your set is in beautiful condition. I’m happy to see that you have your childhood set you’ve always wanted.

    WOW! What a find, those engines are beautiful. You sure did a nice job of presenting the set in this video. Thanks for sharing, thumbs up.

    I salute you Sir. Congratulations on being 74 and still being a kid at heart. I am 67 and have found that having a passion for postwar Lionel and the joy of running my trains keeps me young. That part of me will never grow old. Tell us more about your Dad's set.

      My dad never had a train set of his own until he started buying Lionel trains for me in the early 1950s. I think he enjoyed them just as much as I did. On Christmas day after all the gifts were opened, we would go up in the attic to try out the new equipment. The first set was a basic scout steam freight train that was eventually passed down to my younger brother. My dad was born in 1913, so he would have been a teenager in the 1920s. Recently I have been assembling a pre-war set that he could have had -- a 248 loco from 1928 with 800 series freight cars and a few accessories. I will post a video of that layout when it is finished.

      @@fredmartz945 Thank you for your reply Fred. I was born in 1953 but only got hand me down Lionel from my three older brothers. They were junk when they got to me, so I knew one day I would have my own and they would be beautiful. A man I know has your 2190W set but he wants $5000 for it.

    Great filming the speedliner with the lights off. It takes on a very cool and realistic effect. In the 1950s, we did the same thing in our attic and thats when I first fell in love with the engine lights, marker lights, lighted cab, switch lanterns, and so on. Nothing like Lionel trains in the dark!

    I am enjoying your videos. I am a child of the 1950s so postwar Lionel is pure heaven to me. Always wanted the Super Speedliner set but waiting to save up $5000 for a nice one.

    Wish I had the aluminum passenger cars. Hope I can find some for good price. You have a handsome example.

      @fredmartz945  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are some really good deals now on eBay with prices below $50 per car. If you search for "lionel 2531" you will see a buy-it-now listing offering two of the aluminum cars for $75.

    My 1st train from my father was Western Pacific 2345 AA With 2 Silver Clouds, Silver Range, and Silver Dawn. I will be 70 in August. Still have that train! My Son & Daughter are 4th Generation Colorado Natives. All the time that l was growing up l didn't know that l should have a Silver Bluff. Over the years l have gotten 1950s small door Baggage Car. Last year l got a 1954 large Door Baggage Car ! Thank You for letting me know more about the 2500 Cars that l have. Rod. P.S. l also have my the same train in the 1999 PWC Series. ABBA Engines And Large & Small Door Baggage Cars Western Pacific And Santa- Fe! Have Enjoyed my Retirement! Tjanks Again! Rod.🤠

      Thanks for your comment. I wish I could have a Western Pacific 2345, but they are so rare that they cost thousands of dollars on eBay in decent condition. I would love to see pictures of your set.

      Thank You Fred for your reply. My dad got the engines and the 2530s aluminum cars at the sometime. The Western Pacific set from 1952 wasn't popular in Denver Colorado. If the passenger cars came out in 1954 they were all brand new. Like you l was born before the train set was made. I don't know exactly when my dad brought the train set. I don't have a layout to run my trains. Maybe sometime soon. I have W.P. engines 2345 & 2355 from 1952 ,1953, & 1996 in Lionel. 2345 sets Williams Trains. The Santa-Fe F-3s from Williams are Red/Silver, Red/Black, Blue/Silver & Yellow/Silver! I don't have any Yellow/Silver B units. On my wish list! Thanks Again! Rod.

    Very nice Fred, I am 58 yrs old and just purchased my first 3pc set of O Gauge 2343's in mint condition. They cost me $500.00 well above 1952 prices but worth every cent. Seems to me that more and more guys are buying trains now than ever in 2021.

    When I was a kid around 1955 a friend of the family gave me a pair of 2333 Santa Fe diesels. Gradually we added the passenger cars finishing with two coaches, the baggage car and the dome and observation. I also had a 726 Berkshire from the same person. When I needed more power I'd put that on the point. I still have the diesels and recently bought another Berkshire since I sold the one I had originally which I regret but, basically, I've been able to acquire everything I wish I'd kept. I added some items I never had as a kid: A set of 2333 NYC diesels and three Madison cars.

      @fredmartz945  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The history of your Lionel equipment is very interesting. The 2333 gift was a great way to start out. My first was a 1952 starter steam set that my father bought me for Christmas. The next major acquisition was the 1954 Texas Special 2245, again for Christmas. I have thought about adding a baggage car and a 2343C B unit to my Santa Fe set, but the train already fills about half the loop on my relatively small layout and I think it will just be too long with more cars. See the more recent videos of the finished layout on my Fred Martz channel.

      @@fredmartz945 As mentioned we got the 2333 diesels as a gift along with a 765 Berkshire. Then we added the passenger cars, usually one at a time, at Christmas. Back in those days you waited; you didn't rush out and buy whatever you wanted at any time. We have home movies of some of the new, shiny aluminum passenger cars. They were amazing. My layout for years was a 4x8 set up with a loop, one track through the middle I used for storage and an additional short siding, also for storage. Whatever was operating at the moment parked on the "mainline." I miss that simple layout. There were several Plasticville buildings, too. I had countless hours of fun with that set up.

    • @fredmartz945
      @fredmartz945  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same scenario for me; my brother and I only acquired new Lionel equipment for Christmas. We usually received one big item and several smaller items like accessories, rolling stock, and plasticville buildings. Among my big items were the 282 gantry crane in 1955 and the Budd RDC in 1956. In 2019 I had to completely rewire the gantry crane before I could use it.

    • @1940limited
      @1940limited 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fredmartz945 We really appreciated things back then. Everything wasn't simply handed to us. I don't remember where my Plasticville came from. I probably saved my allowance and bought one building at a time as money allowed.

    Fred, please explain your reference to the Texas Special set you show in the 1954 catalog in this video. Thanks.

    • @fredmartz945
      @fredmartz945  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The reference to the Texas Special set is meant to show the $30 difference in price compared to the Santa Fe set -- one third less. The page displaying the Santa Fe set is shown in Part 1 of my Santa Fe videos. The Texas Special set is the one I received for Christmas in 1954 because that is the one my father could afford.

    you can tell the dummy may have a replacement shell because there is no heat implanted gm logo

      Very interesting. I had not noticed the GM logo is missing. Odd, because that is the shell that is damaged, with a major crack above the cab.
