PART 1 - The Untold Story of Martyrs of Nepal

- 86 years ago, a group of young men embarked on mission to fight against the most powerful family in Nepal, the ruling class of Rana Regime. After 4 years of struggle, they were caught. 500 of them were tortured and jailed. Among them, the four were given death penalty whom we now call the 4 Martyrs of Nepal. We talk about their death but do not talk about why they decided to fight against the Rana. How did they meet? How did they protest? Why were the Ranas so angered with them? All the answers in this series about those heroes.
In the first part of the series, we look into their back story, the formation of Praja Parishad and the challenges in their journey.

I had never thought the real story of the same martyrs that we studied back in school was this interesting. I don't know how much you had to dig for the all the information you provided in this video, but I definitely feel like this video shows that you can make a whole series that highlight countless other topics otherwise relegated to the pages of dusty old history books no one cares to turn anymore. To me at least, it's always felt like the events and people of the past, the stories we read in our social studies and history textbooks are but bygone tales in black and white with little to no relevance in the present day.
With so much western history adapted into numerous movies, TV series and informative animations, I had always wondered whether the dearth of such materials online in the case of Nepal was due genuinely to the unavailability of written records of our history, but through emerging channels like yours, I am beginning to think that we do, as a country, have enough information to produce massively consumable video content that has the potential to serve the public memory well. As time proves over and over, we are a people that could use some historical memory.
Great content! And your effort shows, we do notice the minor details as well, details that you could so easily have omitted without much to lose. Keep up the good work guys.
I was going to write exactly the same. How many books you guys would have to reference to get these details from history. All we read in school were these guys were martyrs. No history beyond that.. Thanks for bringing this and looking forward to the next episode.

A few years back, I really wanted to become a filmmaker. I still do but not immediately. So, longer before The Nepali Comment existed, I had started researching on the story of the martyrs to write a script and potentially find a producer to make it into a movie. And as I went deeper, I was blown away by the story. There is so much more epic stuff that I just cant include. I did not finish the script for the movie but that initial research became the genesis for this video. Life works in mysterious ways.

@@whatinthehell123 I'm also sorry to disagree with this, Shah kings before tribhuwan mostly were puppets of rana's so could not do much. Few kings after P.N shah were helping expansion of Nepal as well. Maybe few were bad cause good times create bad people and rana's took advantage of that. @@riteshkc814 actually not, Pratap Singh was into debauchery, Rana Bahadur as well, the unification campaigns were more under Bahadur Shah and Bhimsen Thapa. Rajendra and Surendra were lunatics and weak, due to which Junga Bahadur came into power. Trailokya was killed before he could even take the throne and Prithvi Bir Bikram was completely overshadowed by Chandra and Juddha shumsher. I do agree that after Junga Bahadur, they were mere puppets but I don't know how that fact pushed us far behind in terms of development.
