Great to see the great Santa Train Tradition once again. The great Clinchfield / CSX Santa Train Tradition brings much needed joy to that part of Southern Appalachia where Christmases can be very lean. A loud shout out to CSX and the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce and the legions of volunteers who make it all possible.
Great to see you out and about with Larry and Jaw Tooth. That is one nice looking Christmas train. I never knew that CSX ever did anything like that. You can't go anywhere now without people recognizing you. You are truly King of the Hobos.Take care brother String and have a wonderful Thanksgiving

The train is the CSX OCS (office car special). CSX uses for special excursions when their company executives are out riding the line and entertaining prospective CSX customers. In this case the OCS is being used as the Santa train where the railroad stops in designated rural towns along the route and passes out toys, food etc to those in need
Nice varnish on that Santa train. Loved seeing it. That rolling stock is waxed and well cared for. Nice to see. I wonder where they keep those cars. Thanks for posting and nice to see u with Jaw Tooth.

Shoestring, that last car on the CSX train wasn't a power unit, it was a theater car, the whole back is glass so the passengers have an awesome view of the tracks.

Sweet camera shot Shoestring! Looked awesome when the train just started rollin with the camera hovering over the side rail. Thanks for another great video! 🤙
Howdy from Great Falls MT. Lotsa years ago back round 1987 I hoboed a bit , wound me up in Maine working at sawmill . Me and traveling companion did that a couple years when work was tight. We went from here to Havre MT. then caught out of Havre Goin East. Back then there was more private owned trains , they wasn't all merged up.
Hello from Buffalo ny 👋 we had a few train incidents during the storm. A csx train caught on fire due to electrical problems and also a car was struck in Angola ny but thankfully no body was injured.. the car ran out of gas and the driver was out.. thanks for the cool video hobo shoestring 👋
Glad to see your back out Shoestring. You mentioned Harrisburg at around 11mind. I assume you mean Harrisburg PA. Did you ever spend any time there? And did you ever cross the Susquehanna River on the longest stone arch RR bridge in Marysville? I work in Harrisburg and the track follow the Juniata River from Lewistown PA. Just wondered. Stay warm this winter.
Great video Shoestring; Happy Thanksgiving to you & family; I’m glad you are feeling better; nice to see you with Jaw Tooth on his channel. Take care and be safe.
The Clinchfield Railroad (now CSX) started running the Santa Train in 1943, so this was the 80th running! It begins in Shelbiana, KY and runs 110 miles to Kingsport, TN, making several stops along the way to distribute toys and gifts. The last two years were not ran because of Covid, and CSX was not going to run it this year due to lack of personnel. But the new CEO changed this bad decision on his first day on the job, bravo!
Hi shoestring my name is Chris I enjoy your videos and it's interesting how much knowledge you have and I'm honored to learn and subscribe to your channel the Mr shoestring I'm also glad your feeling better God bless
I cannot think to imagine as I was watching your videos all day yesterday, you were out there making another one for us, thank you sir Shoestring I've loved trains already but you just made it far more interesting.
That last car they coupled onto the Santa train has a control cab on the rear. That's really a track inspection car with something akin to stadium seating on the rear, and that big window. Thanks for the video. Happy Thanksgiving Shoestring. Stay safe out there. Jon, on the U.P. Pacific Coast Line, Santa Barbara Sub., M.P. 404.5
When Southern & N&W merged in '82, the extra track inspection car (N&W's) went to shortline Nashville & Eastern who used it on excursions along with the Broadway Dinner Train equipment. I served as carhost on that car on those excursions, wonderful view one way but return was an up-close study as to the front end of a CF-7.
