All those needed really was a rejetting. Some of them had really sloppy top ends though. This guy has been a wonderful steward for the bike. Excellent video.
Mr Kaplan this is Big Daddy from Chicago land area that's a badass Sportster you got well taken care of I have a few friends who got old sportsters from the 70s they're in good shape but they've been repainted and rework no lead valves in them all the cams been changed out but they sound good and they still run good well Mr Kaplan have a good one oh by the way is that a mourning Dove that we hear in the background that's what it sounds like God bless you Mr Kaplan you have a good good good good time and a good good day to you
Absolutely beautiful bike Rob 1980 Ironhead Sportster in 1980 amazing info Rob. Red in Chrome. You want to know what? I think that bike is a diamond for its age and especially the way it looks mind-blowing , you always do. It blow my mind beautiful machine! Awesome video Ronnie! The museum looks gorgeous! Beautiful shovelhead! I love that flat black with the old school pinstriping mind-blowing absolutely gorgeous bikes. Thank you sir
I was working in a dealership when this was new, the pay was bad and I couldn't afford a new one, but had a 68 "mostly" that was put together at the shop from a wreck.
I've had my Sportster for over 15 years, they are great bikes, top end and head work every 20 k. Mine looks a world of different then when I bought it. It's how I learned to weld. Made my bars, pipes, fender, painted it myself. No idea how many miles now, no spedo on it. Made it skinny to cause trouble. I've never been able to keep any of my bikes stock. Caleb from cro customs made a mini ham can that looks awesome. They look cool but too big.
Man yeah nice sportster… I had a 1976 bicentennial sportster back in 1978.. black metal flake with yellow eagles on it…I was only 15 back in 78 and I needed a car so I traded it for a truck… thanks buddy
Hey is that my little Twinny Twinstar just beyond your friends bike with his wife's pic on the tank right around 10:17 ish ,if so its cool to know the little Twinstar still has a place there in the museum.
i bet you will never find a mint condition Honda cbx 250 from 1987 but i would love a video of one it was my first motorcycle. and man it was a load of fun
Thanks for the correction can you clarify are you saying they only made 141 of them in 1981 is that what you're saying that would make it a really rare piece also
@@KaplanCycles I'm really sorry, I wrote it in a confusing way. The title of the video said xlch. xlch stands for non-starter models, the last year of which was 1979 with 141 units sold. That's why I wrote that it can't be xlch. Sportstered is amazing no matter the year. Mine is 79 Xls, all original but not as nice as yours.

I don't think that top clamp is original, not trying to be a clam but they look just like that on 2000's sportsers.
It is original
The year I was born..
