in my opinion, plants that need to be eaten (sunbean,hynposhoom,etc) are fair game as they work by the same logic that potato mine,been no able to "attack" unless they are in range
Awesome video! I think the best way to go about premiums/gemiums/seediums is to only use them if you can't beat the level without them, just more entertaining to watch that way, at least for me

You bringing up a little of your history with PvZ2 wanted me to share some of mine as well. I remember playing the game pre-1.7 and HATING the art style (I still like PvZ1’s style more, but PvZ2 has more polish. If someone touched up the old art style though, I’d gladly switch back over). I also HATED how objective stars meant I couldn’t replay levels for fun. Then my memory gets hazy, something something ZackScott World Key, I tried doing Far Future without doing the other worlds and got softlocked. I distinctly remember hating 50 sun meta and wanting 25 sun meta back. I remember stumbling upon, like, the FIRST Eclise trailer and never playing it because I was a kid and also had (and still have) an iPad (I emulate for mods). Still haven’t played Eclise because I’ll see things like “World 5 Level 289” and get SUPER scared off. And then there’s like tiers and all this other stuff I don’t get and don’t want to. But then in like 2022 or something I just played it. I beat it, it was fun, I picked up AltverZ, got stuck on a Wild West Expansion Special Delivery level for so long I stepped away one day and then forgot to play PvZ2 for 7 months, and now I’m on Reflourished. So that’s basically my story. I now expect an in-depth response on either _Plants vs Zombies 2: It’s About Time_ or the color green. Your choice. (Also, remember Power Pinch? That was fun. I think they removed it because they wanted to port the game to like a TV or something)
OBJECTION! Kiwibeast's last stage is a 5x5 (ish) radius! Therefore the third stage of kiwibeast should not be legal! Its up for discussion. I would say that you should shovel kiwibeast when it's on its last stage

In my opinion, PvZ2 makes you think less about strategy if played as intended; challenges might be the only things that will make you be like "ok, I gotta think and micromanage".
The answer to the question can you win with only melee plants, vines or mints is YES you can. You just have to be smart about it and LEVEL THEM UP! That is a core aspect of the game.
I think the challenge should just include any plants that don't use projectiles. This would include walls plants and instas. Anything that shoots, lobs, or drops stuff (including sun), it isn't allowed. Plants that need to punch, smack, or be eaten should be fair game, including sun bean, endurian, and chard guard. Also, keep kiwibeast, wasabi, and other premium plants to a minimum. A plant that acts as a wallnut, chard guard, AND beet at the same time? Yeah, that may be a TAD bit OVERPOWERED. Plants like these make the challenge trivial and boring to watch.
Ive noticed you didnt use walls, which i think should be allowed, considering the synergy they have, or maybe they can be used as a backup plan if all else fails.

"without ranged plants" implies the inclusion of plants like sunflower and wall-nut.
When you get to sun producing levels, the toadstool and/or sun bean should both fit the challenge while getting you through.
The strongest offensive plant in this game is literally a meelee plant (pokra & Ice shroom)
I like this one best because it isn't some arbitrary restriction, like beans, nuts, or fruits. It's ganeplay.

I think it's pretty clear plants that only activate when touched aren't ranged.
My suggestion would be allowing beans and when you unlock the sun beam trying to do the make x sun levels with the bean first
