    "Any golfer should look at everything.....tailor your swing to your body"....priceless advice......so many coaches teach as if their methods are the only ones that work....they can be so dogmatic in their teaching...your humility sincerity and non-patronising manner are engaging...keep up the good work 👍👍

    Tried this yesterday at the range and saw great results: was compressing my irons more consistently than I ever had.
    Thanks for all the helpful instructional videos - you do an incredible job of making things simple to understand, and demonstrating them effectively.

    I've been doing that as well as a slightly open stance to help with rotation. I have a little "valgus deformity" in my left knee making my left side harder to get into as I get older (56) and add a little age around the mid section too. I've had to start with my weight on left side. There are a lot of your videos that I've watched that have helped me, especially with driver and strike. Putting my weight left as has led me to a shorter back swing and acceleration through the ball. It is a "Frankenstein" swing with a little traditional, a little stack and tilt and a little open stance. I've gone from shooting mid 90's to mid 80's. Still a work in progress. I really look forward to where this journey leads you and how your videos will evolve!

    Stack and Tilt. I've been doing this with my wedges, 9 and 8 irons for years. I use the traditional pivot method for anything lower. I feel stack and tilt gives me a lot more control.

    100% recommend this and yes, the lead heel can be lifted to facilitate the backswing.

    I was doing this and I was taking divots for the first time. I decided to take a lesson at my club and this was the first thing he wanted to change. Other things he suggested were solid but I went back to weighting up the lead leg as the strike with irons and even hybrids and 5 wood is much better.

  • @neilgallacher841
    @neilgallacher841 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I like this move. I discovered it by accident when I was trying to solve strike problems. The key for me is that it's set-up only. The rest of my swing is the same, it's just easier to get on that lead side, if you are already closer to start with.

    I’ve been doing this John as had sway to the right - also with left shoulder down drill helps me stay more centred. Still sometimes move to right a bit on backswing as old habits die hard !
    A WIP but good shots feel much better than I used to hit, more height on shots too 👍😁 Cheers, Ken.

    Once I did the weight forward I drastically reduced my fatty shots. Really minimized the inconsistencies and I don't feel like I have to sync up everything perfectly.
    However, it has not worked great with the driver. JChown - let us know if you have found it works for the driver/woods too?

  • @faizimokhtar1153
    @faizimokhtar1153 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree with this approach, put more weight on your left leg. Everyone shoud try it.
    Stack and tilt is not for everyone. I think if you're well built, atheletic, young and fit, yes, do the stack and tilt. Weekend warrior like me, a 50yo 5' 8" male who enjoys his food more than the gym, putting the weight on left leg is the way to go.
    Give it a try, it will make your golfing more enjoyable. 😊👍

  • @BillWhittemore
    @BillWhittemore ปีที่แล้ว

    Lead side weighting (S & T) got me back to loving golf again. At 79 years old, it is virtually impossible to synchronize the process of weighting the trail leg then shifting to the lead side and getting to the low point in the downswing consistently.Too many moving parts. Definitely worth a try if you struggle getting weight forward and hitting the low point consistently. Also strongly recommend playing from the tees that are appropriate for your off the tee distance, not the ones that your ego tells you. IMHO.

    If you're never really moving your COP (not much), then what "triggers" your downswing? I find when I transfer pressure to trail side early I can "push off" (externally rotate trail leg) to help me rotate and shift in one move but I've always been more of a lead foot player so this could potentially help me and thus why I'm curious. Would love to see your pressure traces before and after.. Love hearing about your own swing and its quirks. I guess I'm a golf nerd.. ;)

    • @jchowngolf

    I’ve tried stack and tilt a few times and it was so easy to get good contact each time. Haven’t fully switched over tho because it feels a bit unnatural indeed

  • @lapdog4135
    @lapdog4135 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting, I have a problem not getting my weight on my right side during my backswing thus leaving to much weight on my left side. My problem (as I've gotten older) is when I leave to much weight on my left foot on setup. My body stops turning to the left on my downswing and then it causes me to hit pulls or hooks. In my best Nick Faldo impression "the body stops the arms keep going and left it goes"...
    Iow's, when I start with to much weight on my left side my body thinks it's completing the swing (to early) because it "feels" like the weight has already transferred when actually it's my body stopping when it shouldn't. I hope I'm making sense in what I'm describing?
    Anyway, I certainly understand why it works for you! Btw, those shoes you have on look great, what brand?

  • @beeefelemouton
    @beeefelemouton ปีที่แล้ว

    Depending on which golfer adopts this 70% pressure on front foot at adress, might result in reverse pivot... But for me your advice is something I adopt, may be not 70 but slight pressure

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A reverse pivot won’t happen from this. Only if you have poor pelvic movement in the backswing via excessive slide. More goes into the production of reverse pivoting than the weight just being forward

  • @werquantum
    @werquantum ปีที่แล้ว

    If you’re not giving up distance or accuracy, it would seem to me that weight on the left side at setup would be a default rule. Otherwise, you’re just adding needless weight shift and timing issues. Right?

  • @johnnymo5703
    @johnnymo5703 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  ปีที่แล้ว

  • @crumpecker

    Is that 70% maintained as you move your arms back to the top (P1 to P4)?

    • @jchowngolf

      Absolutely, pressure increasing as approaching p4

  • @michaelegan1311

    John, not lifting front heel to encourage hip turn?

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend this for almost all golfers, just found for me as an individual with my limitations, the pressure shift is too delayed. Again, this is purely for my swing, this won’t be the case for you guys as you don’t have the disability I have

    What is wrong with stack and tilt? I feel like a lot of what stack and tilt is (tilt lead shoulder down, and swinging more around the body) is what people teaching a “modern” golf swing advise. Only thing is the weight shift and keeping it forward.

  • @davecohn6407
    @davecohn6407 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your setup and backswing is NOT stack and tilt , but “ REVERSE K” . It has the added advantage of minimizing lateral motion going down because you have already weakened weighted your left foot at setup .
