The nunchaku are in my opinion the most terrifying and efficient melee weapons for both the opponent and the user. Whichever of the two is more terrified is dependent on nerve and the user's skill.

hey thanks so much for putting this video up! my taekwon do instructor tried showing me how to use my nunchucks but he didnt really elaborate or teach me for very long (i just randomly bought nunchucks one day and asked him to show me how to use them, even though he is only supposed to teach us how to use staffs so he didnt go in-depth in my nunchuck instruction). when i saw this video, a lot of the things you said were thing that he mentioned to me but you made it make sense so thanks!

With my current chained set of chucks they seem quite restricting due to weight and the texture of the chain links when spinning. Chord looks smooth but i have heard that they break easily. No you really should listen to the haters, I've been a master of the nunchaku for over 30 years, the only thing you got right in this video is to keep your wrist locked, other than that, you are teaching and inspiring people who don't know any better how do everything else the wrong way....that could get them killed if they attempt to use them in a real fight, please refrain from make anymore "teaching" videos until you yourself have mastered the weapon, which takes a couple of years, not months

the length should be from the elbow to your wrist and the width of the rope or chain should be the wide as your hand from thumb to pinky. with fingers together. practice and be safe.

This kid's parents have done a fine job. Nunchakus are fun as hell & also deadly in the right hands. The same people who knock nunchakus are the same ones who knock themselves out trying moves they are nowhere near skilled enough to execute. For instance, what he calls the "ready position" is actually not how chucks would be carried. They would either be in a "holster" or carried "closed" in one hand with that hand hanging at your side. That is really the "ready" position. From that position they can be instantly used to block, strike (like with a stick) or released to swing on the chain or rope. The whole point of learning the swinging and catching techniques is to make it possible for you to recover from a strike or a miss. All the twirling is pretty but not practical.
do u live in california? if so where can u buy real nunchucks? my sister brought a pair for me from china, but it looks more like an antique than a weapon, its made of solid hard wood and its actually pretty good to do these moves with. im considering about going to china town to look for them, but i dont want to go thru bunch of bb gun stores

I think you should start out with an explanation of the weapon first. History and practical application like how U.S. law enforcement currently use them for defense . Not bad for a first vid.
your chucks arnt a little long bro their standard 12 inch chuck 5 inch chine, i have 5 pares just like it, your doing good though if you know to tape up the nunchaku. but yo the stance your in is one of a billion stances and that one you called the Bruce lee stance is very affective and in a match you almost always want both hands on the ends of the chucks so that when they strike you can block easy and fast, and so you will have maximum reach when striking, wut dojo did you train at?

You need only hit your opponent 1 or 2 times with the chucks, and you will never have to hit him again. It is a duel but its all over as soon as you lay your wood into your opponents head. ;-)
Yo I just got into the upper ranks of my martial arts group so I was able to pick between a bow staff or nunchucks and I was the only one who chose nunchucks but you use one but my teacher is teaching me how to use two is this abnormal

I don't agree with the "best position" part. The good thing about chucks and also why they are illegal to carry with you in many countries is that the pair can be hidden anywhere on your body and allow you to instantly deliver a blow from ANY position. If you could only hit correctly from the position you describe, the chucks are pretty much useless because no one in his right mind would ever approach you after seeing you like that.

Every time I have tried to learn to use nunchucks I have beat up my elbos, knees, and most importantly, gonads.

All it takes us one clean strike to drop someone like a bad habit. Their not illegal everywhere because their a joke.
Try some insulating foam for plumbing, if it's to thick, you can shave it down a bit. A local hard wear store should be able to help.

your holding way is wrong ! Is that not way to hold it closer to chain, you should hold it from Edge(leave 2 inch gap).
Holding in from the edge is good only for ranged attacks. If you hold it near the chain you have better control.
