i have the exact same vehicle thanks for showing how it comes apart sometimes i get in a hurry and break shit watched alot of your vids they help..so stay in good health,,
Awesome Bruce, glad it helped!
I'm a fan of the specific dtc function on some of the GM's. It would be nice if all cars had it 👍
Good job on helping diagnosed po440. 100 % acurate
Thanks Alex!
Very thorough video. Thank you man!
Thanks for watching Ray!
Great video! Helped me fix the same problem. Thanks.
Great to hear! Thank you for watching and leaving a comment to let me know!
Thank You so very much for this AWESOME VIDEO
You are so welcome!
It would be helpful for you to do have done your "blow test" with the new part to demonstrate that it was indeed the issue by showing that ESIM data pid change as you suggest. Thanks for the video.
Good idea, I'll do that when another one comes in. I tend to get them done and out asap since I'm on flat rate, so once I spot an issue I tend to run with it from there. Always a work in progress. Thanks.
Great video Jimmy 👍
Thanks Tony!
At least it didn’t detect ethanol when you blew into it!

Where yah get that snap on code checker I need one in my life. Great video by the way my 18 Jeep doing same crap
The Modis is only available on the Tool Trucks, or you can find them used on Ebay. What I'm using now is the TOPDON phoenix lite 2 and it is much less expensive and very capable. It is in my Amazon store if you would like to check it out, link in the description. :)
Thanks Jimmy 💪💯🔥
You're welcome!!!
Hey man great video, just quick question what do you mean by 2 trips? So do you have to clear the code twice?
Good question. For the computer in the car a trip is a cycle from cold to warmed up where a certain speed is reached, then cooled back down a certain percentage. So 2 trips would take most people driving to and from work for example.
Thanks this fixed my Jeep! But what size push rivets are used? They broke when I removed them and I can’t find anywhere that tells the size.
Glad I could help. There are many different sizes. Most common are 1/4” or 7mm. There are kits available with an assortment which may be the best choice.
Should be in my Amazon store, link in the description below each video. :)
I picked my Jeep up yesterday for the same code, got it home, and the light came right back on
Ouch. Usually thermostat but air temp and coolant temp sensor issues can also cause P0128 codes. 😬
On my 2000 WJ Im getting a new po 441 code again! I replaced the EVAP cleared the code and a few months later it came up again! I was having a problem with the charcoal canister but that went away. So im stumped!
In some cases the canister will come apart inside sending charcoal pellets thru the system. If that happened the hoses need to be blown thru with shop air and both vent and purge solenoids replaced.
Even a bad gas cap can cause evap codes though, which is less work and expense.
so was it the ESIM? I have a 2018 with that code. Dealer says it's weird that it's only that code and nothing with it. They did a basic EVAP system test (not a smoke test) and flashed the computer but the light came back on.
Yes Kirk, after replacing the ESIM in this video the vehicle has not been back for the check engine light at all. Common failure and can also be intermittent as well.
Thanks for watching!
Pretty sure I saw a .08 BAC on that scanner son ! You best get a ride home ! Lol
I have the light on, got a diagnostic w the same code. Before I take it in either to the dealership or a shop I’m wondering how much this should typically cost? Pleeease thank you!
At our shop the diagnosis, parts and labor for the ESIM was about $380. Prices can vary depending on your location and other things they may find though.
Thanks for watching!
Has anyone used the Dornan ESIM as a replacement for the failed MOPAR/OEM version? I have and it makes some noise and appears to be a different design. Does anyone know if this is an issue?
Most of the time we use whatever aftermarket parts are available and they all seem to work well.
How much does this diagnostic and labor do you think is a fair price. I don’t want to get robbed. Thanks for the video
I don't remember the exact cost, but for the ESIM I'd guess less than $400 or so. As long as there aren't other problems.
Had both P0460 and P0440. Changed the ESIM pump, purge valve and the purge hose (complete with crack). Codes disappeared for a wonderous three days. The little light on my dash is back and so are the codes. Any ideas of what else to change out?
It might need to be smoke tested for leaks. Occasionally a fuel tank retainer ring can leak or other tubing. Also possibly just a bad gas cap. Also look carefully for granules from the canister getting into things. They’ll look like tiny charcoal pellets, which is what they are. Hope this helps.
No leak on the smoke test. Brought to dealership...they changed the purge valve. I had changed that twice. 200 miles later the code is back. 3 purge valves, 1 purge hose, 1 new gas cap cover and 2 ESIM pumps. Same problem!! This is fantastic! Hey jim i have a 2014 jeep Cherokee limited and it overheats when idling but levels out when driving and i have that same code got any idea??
I would check the Fan motor, or its controls. Also look for fan related codes. The emissions code won't affect the engine temperatures.
Hope this helps.
i heard the expression about the horn blowing what about the driver...i guess he does jeeps...all joke side good job taught me something
Awesome, thanks Michael!
How long does the check engine sign stays after solving the issue?
I use a scan tool to clear the codes after repair, a code reader can usually do it also but the computer will turn off the light if it doesn't see the problem for 50 warm up cycles on it's own.
Can you help me out I got that same code after I changed my spark plugs and I don’t know if the Egr messed up or what’s going on I took the Egr cleaned it out and the code still came back it’s now a permanent code as well. Please help don’t know what to do thanks.
This code is for Evaporative emissions. It means the system is not sealing during the computers testing. If no lines or hoses are broken or disconnected one of the solenoids or switches are bad. In this vehicle and video it was the ESIM causing the issues.
Thank for the advise really appreciate the response 👍🏽
Would the esim cause the remote start to run and then shut off seconds.later. the jeep dealership replaced a reciever hub because the remote start and the push button stopped working.
Now the remote start is back to doing the same thing..turning over for a few seconds and then stops. Im wondering if it was the esim valve? Any thoughts?
It might cause remote start not to work if it is setting a code. Most vehicles disable remote start if there are any trouble codes in certain modules. But even something like a weak battery or high amperage draw from the starter can cause a similar issue among other things.
@@JimmyMakingitwork it threw a 0441 and 0456 code before they replaced the reciever hub module. Now its back to the remote start not working. Pushbutton will start it however. Battery is new within the year( under passenger seat ).
It will be interesting if the codes come back here in a few days.
Im thinking about trying to replace the esim. Any other ideas?
Can you pls tell me how much this will cost a customer with the same issue??
Parts and labor should be in the $250-300 range for the ESIM and install. Diagnosis if needed might add some cost and location can also affect cost.
Ok thank you. I was already charged $150+tax for just the smoke test alone. And this is before any labor done on the actual issue. So I was wondering
Is it safe to drive the car with this problem?
Yes Carolina, it is an emissions related code. So it will run ok until it can be repaired, but won't pass emissions testing.
Had this come up on my jeep SRT..
Hope it helped!
