That’s such an interesting perspective on microtones! It never even occurred to me because we are taught to practice this while studying Indian classical vocals. So we assume everyone knows these. It only registered when a friend from the US once asked me to sing and then asked me to repeat the part with the vocal acrobatics that I realized that he hadn’t heard a harqat or briga before. What you’re talking about is gamaka, which refers to ornamentation in Indian classical music. It’s embellishment done on a note or between two notes. This song is an interesting one and quite different from the run-of-the-mill Bollywood songs that are churned out nowadays because it is ghazal-like with some semi-classical elements thrown in and set to a modern beats. Loved your review!
@JusJrdn haha I wouldn't know. I don't listen to her now. I used to a long time ago like when she was just starting out and on those Nickelodeon shows.
The singer had the same voice of Salma Aga from the 80's era and the rhythm and samples are taken from the 90's. To me it was nothing new. However, for this gen it might sound new to them.
That’s like saying Mariah Carey and Demi Lovato sound the same. I’m from the 80s and yes, it does have the same feel but this song is an original and not sampled from anywhere. I hate it when people don’t give credit where it’s due and undermine the efforts of the newer generation when they take inspiration from our generation.
This song was at no 1 for 13 week until APT arrived
That’s WILD!!!!!
One day indian music will rule the world 😊😊

Oh no way!!!! That’s very interesting! So many songs get remade!
No way, Salma Agha had a more nasal tone, madhumanti is way more talented and has a better voice
