A few of the Punjabi students got on the stage and demanded that Rafi Sahib sing a Punjabi songs. I assumed they were making some sort of political statement. Everyone appreciates his singing . But he was also One of the most humble human being one can come across. In late seventies, one of my relatives had invited Mohd. Rafi for concert in Muscat. Mohd. Rafi was staying at his home as guest. When one day when he woke up in casual home clothes, leaning on the kitchen door, he, as always, very respectfully said hello to my relatives wife who was cooking food. She just casually requested, "please sing something". Without a single moment of hesitation or show of arrogance, This humble man started singing right then and there, still leaning on the kitchen door!

Unbeliveble to see how effortlessly Rafi sahab is singing this song.He is even not fully opening his mouth and without making any weird faces as the singers do these days.He is not standing very close to the mike but you can hear the sound his voice is producing.Cant imagine how he would sound in the current era of super technology.

@@njscan007 possibly, late 1970’s or early 80. The concert was at the Zellerbach Theater and the price of admission was $15. A few of the Punjabi students got on the stage and demanded that Rafi Sahib sing a Punjabi songs. I assumed they were making some sort of political statement. It was a bit spectacle however, looking back, it was Berkeley it the 1970’s.

In late seventies, one of my relatives had invited Mohd. Rafi for concert in Muscat. Mohd. Rafi was staying at his home as guest.
When one day when he woke up in casual home clothes, leaning on the kitchen door, he, as always, very respectfully said hello to my relatives wife who was cooking food. She just casually requested, "please sing something". Without a single moment of hesitation or show of arrogance, This humble man started singing right then and there, still leaning on the kitchen door!
What a voice and style of singing. There would never be a second one like him.
