Thanks so much for this video, I've played this a couple times as the bass player, while playing the root was musically correct, you've given me a great perspective on something just a little bit more.
Mike: How it feels? Me: It feels like a true worship leader making me learn to help others to worship actually...Thank you so much..Those words while you were playing was ❤️
Hello Mike. I am grateful for your recordings. I haven't played bass for 10 years and i'm now thrown into complementing the band of our church. I played a lot in the 80s. Now I'm going to play modern music. It's good to watch. I can't do so much with Basstabs. I like to learn from you. God bless you. I will also watch all the other Videos from you. Let the fingers glow for the Lord. :-)
And play worshipfully :). Felt that was missing from the end remarks ;). Mike, you are an excellent teacher and spiritual leader. Even though this is an older video, I still want to thank you for the work you put into them and continue to put in. On top of playing the music, you remind us why we're playing, to lead people to worship and to worship and praise our Lord. Be blessed Mike.
I am doing a 3 week sub. Ive never played this style and I must tell you.,this is one of the most helpful vids Ive seen. Thank you ! Well played. Beautiful to watch and hear
Loved the rendering, the build up but most of all the humour pop outs... and oh yes, the wisdom you've shared in this video is soo enriching and and inspiring. Thanks for sharing this video
Your talented Mike. Love the way you run with the bass. I pray that Jesus Christ will bless me to play one day like you. Your a blessing too me may the LORD bless you.
This video is great! I’ve been playing bass for my church for a few years but I’ve never thought about how I can really add to the mood and feeling of the song. Great tips!
This is a beautiful and perfect expression of this song! My worship team is always wanting me to play low notes throughout the whole song. I am glad to find another who chooses to be more mindful of the song and use their instrument to portray a story of expression within the song by playing intentionally even when not playing a single note. Thank you for blessing us with these words at the end. It lets me know that what the Spirit is telling me to do will give God the glory he deserves. God bless you for your videos. I wish I had seen them a couple of years ago when they needed a bass player at the church (I am a percussionist). Still, they are very insightful and I wish and hope you come out from retirement. Playing fills is probably the more complex task of playing bass. Your other video that leads into this one, gives the precise information needed to foster growth. God bless you Mike!
Goosebumps... :) Just like Gordon I also started with an acoustic and electric guitar. Now getting my hands on a bass. trying to learn more. Love the way you brought those emotions/feel in the play. Bless you.
Hey Rex, thought I responded to you already, sorry. Thanks for the kind words and the same offer I put out for Gordon stands for you as well. Shoot me an email mike@longshotmusician.com
Thank you Pablo! This was the first, and as I view it, realize the bass volume needs to come up a bit (going to try to fix that soon). I definitely plan on follow up vids, along with companion lesson vids for popular songs.
Mike God Blessed you with an amazing talent to play worship and praise for Him,I was in awe of the harmony of your bass line.I hope you would post tabs of this work, just because I am a beginner bassist but would LOVE to learn this to play with our worship team in The Lords House.Again thank you for this beautiful piece that you have given and may your Heart always be revealed in your music for God as it is in this.
+Rene Bourgeault II Thank you so much Rene! Unfortunately, I've never really done anything with tabs. Sorry. Let me know if you'd ever be interested in lessons as I work through Skype with others in various parts of the world. Your suggestions for further videos are always welcome! God Bless!
Right On!!! This was beautiful. I was recently asked to play bass for my church. All thanks to God. This is one song we will hopefully play. Would love to play this bass line if we could contact and trade bass tabs. I would gladly pay for them.
Mike: fan.tas.tic stuff. Melodic lines, tastefully done, never over-powering. Your comments are thoughtful and helpful too -- good for any musician. Thanks for doing posting this. You've got a new subscriber! ;-)
I actually forgot about the message at the end. Your comment reminded me of those words at the end of the vid and the reason I am a musician. Thanks Matthew!
+Mike Brandenstein yeah im playing bass at our congregation on Friday after a hiatus so I'm just looking for some creative bass fills so I'm here for insipration. Great playing! :)
Nice! Was looking for something different to play in the song for this Sunday. The other thing to think about is what other instruments are playing. On Sunday the line-up means if I play the octave higher I'll be getting mixed up with others (in the sound spectrum) - so I'll keep low but use some of the ideas. Thanks
I'm not too big on the religious theme of the song but I love your style. You have the melodic technique and tone of John Deacon from Queen. Great over all sound!
Hey Thanks Xcorgi! Your comment really means a lot to me because John Deacon and Queen have been a huge inspiration to me! In fact, I believe it was JDs bass lines that drove me to start playing bass back in 1978!
Mike Brandenstein Not a lot of people have his basic technique but when I hear it I definitely know it and you have it. It's really funny. No other bass player's sound or technique really spoke to me or inspired me enough to switch from 25 years of playing drums and 15 of playing guitar to switching to playing bass. Bass must be a British thing for me, my other influences are Andy Roark from The Smiths, the bass player from The Cure and Sting from The Police. English players tend to build their songs around strong bass MELODIES where Americans tend to write a song from all the other instruments then throw the bass line in as an after thought. Deacy of course is the MASTER of this and will always be my main influence.
Many thanks for showing us some ideas that aren't so insufferably boring as the originals...I want to be a good bass player and add to the music - not an every bass player that's just a tacked on afterthought w/ no sense of inspiration or creativity whatsoever! But it is important to know when NOT to play or when to play very little, so I appreciate those reminders as well :D
Thanks! It's in the key of G. Primary notes you can use in your fills are those in the G Major scale, G-A-B-C-D-E-F#. Here's another vid that might help th-cam.com/video/4I2YQS0BPsk/w-d-xo.html
Awesome, can you help me out on 5string bass guitars for praise and worship? I came from electric and acoustic guitar and learning. Ran into a tuning change on one of our songs dropped d to standard e and didn't tune in time so I play in dropped d on electric guitar. I filled in for a bass player with a 5 string bass and tuned normal on the low string. I am trying tO figure out do praise and worship use that low string for lower bass tones? I'm learning bass guitar for my church and searched TH-cam and found nothing. I play my 4 string bass to dropped d so I have that low d you don't get in standard tuning in e.
+Don O (DONON) Thanks for the comment Don. I agree that the bass can be a little louder. This was my first cover vid, so hoping the others have a little more clarity and volume.
Thanks so much for this video, I've played this a couple times as the bass player, while playing the root was musically correct, you've given me a great perspective on something just a little bit more.
Really like the thought bubbles. Great way of explaining what’s happening without interrupting the music. Would love to see more of it.
Mike, you have inspire me with this cover
The Glory be to God!!
Praise the Lord. God bless you Mike.
Good job brother! Not many covers are played with much feeling but you do incorporate that into your playing for sure! God bless!
Inflection in spades. Very nice musicianship giving it all to Him. Great job.

where can i find tabs for this song??
Where can I get a tab sheet or a chord sheet for your playing on this song
The accompaniment is clear, however, we cant hear you very well
Your playing should be louder so that I can play my guitar as well..
+Don O (DONON) Thanks for the comment Don. I agree that the bass can be a little louder. This was my first cover vid, so hoping the others have a little more clarity and volume.
turn that bass up...
