My father loved The Seekers. He was a military man and if he’d had a rough day, when he came home from work he would do his chores and put his favourite records on then sit on the verandah, a beer in hand to watch the sunset or storms come in. I used to sit beside him and sing along. I know the words to all their songs. The Seekers hold a special place in my heart. Thanks for this Mike.
Unfortunately, we lost the amazing Judith Durham 2 years ago. One the clearest voices and such a beautiful soul. We lost Judith & Olivia Newton-John at the same time & it was huge loss to the world, but particularly Australians.
You wouldnt know it but Judith caught measles at the age of 4 and complications ended in asthma and life-long chronic lung disease, bronchiectasis. She lived her entire life with it before succumbing to it at the age of 79 in 2022. That singing voice is amazing to all with her personal lung issues. She sung professionally right up to her death.
Judith Durham had one of the purest, most exquisite voices you will ever hear. No autotune, no overdubs, just sheer, pitch perfect, talent. Even in her seventies her voice was as clear as ever. The Seekers were HUGE in the 60s. So much so that their final Best of the Seekers album knocked off The Beatles’ White Album from number one in the UK charts in 1969, and kept the Rolling Stones’ Beggars Banquet from reaching top spot. Other great songs of there’s to checkout include “Georgie Girl”, “The Carnival is Over”, “Morningtown Ride” and “A World of Our Own”. And, of course, from their farewell reunion concert in 2019 “I am Australian”.
My mum never quite forgave my older sister for choosing to make her entrance into the world on the day Mum was going to go and see The Seekers in Melbourne 😂😂
Hi Mike! Thank you SO much for reacting to my FAVOURITE group that I grew up with! We lost our BEAUTIFUL Judith 2 years ago! I cried all day when I found out that she passed! Her name was Judith Durham! Please, please, please, please MORE Seekers if possible! LOVE,LOVE your channel! You’re a very sweet gentleman! Peace and Blessings to you and yours from Australia.
This video is a 1968 re-enactment of when they recorded the song in England in 1964, which was their first hit, written by Dusty Springfield's brother Tom. I believe the re-enactment was part of a tribute made by the BBC following Judith's decision to leave the band and go solo - they were extremely popular in Britain and it was a shock when they announced the break-up. In the late 1980s they got back together to record several new albums and did some concert tours in Australia, New Zealand and a few other countries. You now must react to their "Special Farewell Performance (All five verses)" of 'I Am Australian' from around 2014-15 (while Judith was still recovering from a stroke) - it's like a condensed story of our history which has even brought other reactors to tears. Many Aussies believe it should become our national anthem.
Good to point out it was a reenactment. The full TV special is available on TH-cam. In the credits it points out it was filmed in Melbourne and Sydney by an Australian film company. Just a less expensive shot of the Abbey Road entrance to set the scene. Likely filmed in some Australian recording studio saving money and effort for the Seekers. Just before the breakup with no mention of that in the TV special. Shown on the Nine network to huge ratings. Nine personalities prominent with narration by Tony Charlton who was prominent in Nine Melbourne News, Sports and special events. Lucky it was filmed in high standard colour , so now is widely used for the Seeker's music clip images being far superior to the low standard video tape that may have survived re use at the time and was often black and white.
You must watch the Seekers performing what many Australians consider our national anthem, a song called "I Am Australian". It was performed many decades later when Judith was in her seventies (I think) and she sounds as amazing as ever. I'll wager that after watching this video you'll have a sense of Aussie patriotism, even if you are American. This live performance is the best one to watch. th-cam.com/video/KrLTe1_9zso/w-d-xo.html
G'day, These are the same people you reacted to doing "We are Australian". They have a long list of hit songs. Back in their hayday they out performed the beetles several times.
Yep put The Seekers on full blast whilst driving down the road Mike. Many number 1 hits all over the world but mostly the UK & Australia. check out "I Am Australian" from one of their last concerts...Judith is seated as she was recovering from a mild stroke...but her vocals are crystal clear. IOU a coffee I promise th-cam.com/video/KrLTe1_9zso/w-d-xo.html
You will never be disappointed with The Seekers. Judith had such a beautifully pure voice. RIP Judith. Her band members regarded her as their little sister and they, like all of Australia, loved her deeply
Judith was cute up until the day she died, and her voice was just as good , try I am Australian 2014 version, Judith's last concert(?) th-cam.com/video/KrLTe1_9zso/w-d-xo.htmlsi=fVETCbn7cEy_TynN
