NR Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, suggests that the youth in India should work 12 hours a day, 70 hours a week, in order to compete with economies that have made significant progress in the last few decades. In this video, we explore the reactions of Lallantop's newsroom to Narayana Murthy's advice and his vision for India's economic growth.

I am ex infosian, i hve worked in their toxic work culture for 11-12 hours(zero value added work, clerical work) by for days, doing double shifts all together. When we say 11-12 hours working will benefit India , i think he wanted to convey that you work for 11-12 hours so that the CEO can have a big fat increment & infosys share price will increase & his wife can do more philanthropy with that & pay their PR team so that they can show them as heros in social media..if u r slogging 11-12 hours doing clerical work(zero value addition to your skill) & in return getting peanuts (1-5% yearly increment) still do you think he was telling you to slog for India or your future 😂😂these owners and ceos of companies think we are born slaves to serve then and their families

It is because of this mazdoor attitude this guy's generation had.
Why Japan has highest suicide rate ?
Almost everyone works more than agreed 8 hrs, When will IT companies start paying overtime or flex leaves?
How is US, Germany, Australia and France are progressing and have national pride with normal work hours? They are now adopting 4 day week.
And for once, if you are so concerned about national pride, please if you any balls, please say that to Indian center and state Government employees. Please I dare you, if you are not a hypocrite try saying that once.

Yes, the standard 8-hour workday totaling 40 hours per week is a common work schedule in many countries. It has historical roots and has been the norm for many industries and occupations. However, it's important to note that there is ongoing debate about whether this is the most effective and beneficial work schedule for all individuals and industries. Some research has suggested that shorter workweeks or flexible schedules can lead to increased productivity and improved well-being. Ultimately, the suitability of a work schedule depends on various factors, including the nature of the work, cultural norms, and individual preferences.

I disagree with this, retired people have some incredible experiences that can work as catalyst in our lives. However personally I feel Narayana Murthyji is just a PR erected person, the other 10 people did all the grunt work for him. His views needs to be taken with a ton of Himalyan Salt.
He should have come up with a solution to give jobs to millions of youth currently unemployed in India and ensure that the work gets equally distributed and jobs get created. Why not make working hours 40 per week and have 2 people do it 40 hours instead of 1 person doing 70 hours. Today's technology allows people to work from anywhere and still contribute to the growth of the organization.

It is important to identify the sectors which needs more work and how to improvise the outcome, either by automation, mechanically and by increasing the workforce where required. A bigger population in country is unemployed or underskilled, these needed more attention and to bring in productive stream as well rather than taking more work from those who are good in their work. We don't only need to fill the gap of rich and poor but also between skilled and unskilled/unemployed

If a person has the capacity to work for 70 hours, they should certainly do so, but perhaps not for the same organization. I believe that only companies like Infosys and Wipro would terminate their employees on the grounds of moonlighting if they discover that the employee is working for another employer. This is pure double standards.

In 2005 or 2006. The same Narayan Murthy and his wife had issue with bachelor's and who use to sit at office after work hours. Coz, they use to watch movies, sleep on desk and using office resources. Once married they use to leave office in time. N infy bought a strict rule that as soon the employee is done with work they had to logout and leave the desk. And Infosys electricity bill, telephone, internet and coffee vending machine bills had drastically reduced month on month.
One thing i wanna tell about Infosys is, they are still struggling to hire a CEO. And they couldn't train and identify the best industry leaders from there first 100 or 500 employees unlike Wipro or Oracle or TCS

Best statement from the guy who said "24 ghante kaam karo par unki company mei nahi!"
Someone who is working on their own venture (even a small retail shop), and their work has direct impact on the health of the company, is realistically never off duty and has to work 24*7. But the same can not and should not be expected of the employees, especially from the so called leader of a company who hardly even pays a minimum wage and has not increased their salary for freshers in 15 years.
When a business owner works 24*7, it is their passion, and that's what leads to nation building.
When an employee at minimum wage works for greedy corporates profiteering by misreporting actual work hours to their clients, which are already way above 70-80 hours a week, it is called workforce exploitation.
The former should be an Icon and the latter are no different than slave owners of the west.
    We must understand the difference.

There is an old saying, If I have to cut a tree I will spend more time sharpening my axe rather than just spending time chopping the tree. Similarly if I have to work, I should spend time polishing my skills which can happen only if I get enough time outside of work where I can relax my mind so that I have energy to learn something new and update my skills. In today's world mostly we are doing mental work rather than physical work so it is very much needed to relax rejuvenate so that our mind can unlearn, relearn and implement those new learnings. Sorry Mr Murthy, what you said may work if we just need to put physical effort (so that our muscles grow strong and we can work more efficiently) but not in today's modern world where most of us are performing mental work sitting on chair. Rome was not built in a day similarly we need to give enough time and energy to build something great rather than just slogging as you said.

after listening to Saurabh Dwivedi at the end I would like to say that people who aspire to build something big one day should work without watching hours on the clock. But it should not apply to an employee as a rule. I mean a person who thinks who is growing by working in a company will naturally work more to grow faster. They are not needed to be tied to any rule. But if you're expecting someone to work 70 hours then you should pay according to that or you should simply hire 1 more person. That will make it 80 hours a week and nation will grow at 2x speed, if that is the actual intent at all.

There is something called work life balance, on an average every Indian travels 2 hours everyday for going to and coming back from office, if a person needs 7 hours of sleep and as per Mr.Murthy if we add 14 hours work, then 7+2+14=23 hours. So when that person will give time to his/her family, when will that person help his/her children to complete their homework or spend time with their spouse/parents/siblings. When will that person take out time for their hobbies. We cannot become vishwaguru if our citizens are unhappy. I totally respect that Mr.Narayn Murthy who started a big company which made him and his family billionaire also generated a lot of employment and helped in taking our country forward but we should respectfully disagree when he is wrong and in this case i believe he is totally wrong with all due respect.

i will add to your comment further that why he fails to understand that unemployment is so much in all walks of life for eg if u say tech people there is corers of people unemployed, take for eg tech people there are crores of people unemployed in technician, engineers, even in management cadre lakhs of mba done people unemployed, if u talk about industrial working they are being exploited like anything more than the working hours and the minimum wages is also not paid inspite of state and central govt guidelines to give minimum wages ,which is gone for a toss no body gives a damn to it, so why he does not think in this way with so much unemployment's in all frontiers, why he did not suggest , if for 5 days working is 14 hours then if an individual is working for 8 hours and add an individual for the next 6 hours with other individual it is a win win situation for everybody one individual is working for 8 hours and the other individual is working for 6 hours , the malik gets the maximum from the place he has invested and moreover he has employed so many oeople also why this idea he did not floated. and what sourabh trivedi is saying i did not get , what he tried to say by saying that we did not understand what mr narayan murthy is trying to say that leaves me unanswereed .What Narayan Murty is saying in his podcast how the youth should work by raising the productivity , and doing some hard work , then only we can reach at no 1 , I will hear say that he is having in his mind the Chinese model that become the factory of the world and produce for the world for a cheap price for all the manufacturing unit of the world and distribute it to the world market at a lesser price , one must keep in mind China is a authoritarian govt were it can bend any rules for its citizen without any question being asked and get the production done by its whims and fancies and the people have to work without any ohh and ahh , and thus they have achieved the success by flooding the international market and getting good cash reserves for building there nations infrastructure and making the economic strong , there it is possible , now it has risen the standard of its citizen from bicycle to motor cycle and the people of China see this economic upsurge and they feel that they are with the developed worlds this they manage through there authoritarian rule. Now this model the central govt and even a few state govts want to implement it and hence changing the labour laws so that any investor can come and reinvest hear and get the work done at a cheaper price with our labour available in the market. By labour mean everything not only industrial worker every work available in our walks of our life, now here is the crux of the problem lies, already the minimum wages is not given in the entire stretch of India baring a few and on top of it they want the working hours should increase that means more exploitation and that too under a democratic set up , I fail to understand how India is going to achieve with so much of kayos with this type of work culture. Now even in China is not able to do it at a cheaper price because its economics have shown the rosy picture of money to its people and now what China is doing it is outsourcing other countries such as Vietnam to produce the goods for it with that same old cost and what they are doing there own people , they are now entering the global market that is stage two with there own people do to some infrastructure products for the nearby countries and minting money from there and thus people who were earlier doing this type of i infrastructure work are leaving that space for the Chinese, this way the Chinese are maintaining there economy , now here is the question how come India will compete with China in becoming no 1 that is a big question . so working hard and taking less payment is the solution by Mr Narayan Murthy and the entire sacrifice has to be taken by the working class , I mean by working class that is all type or work. So I do not find any solution to this type of work , we have to find a way out of this and chart a new way for our financial progress. Another thing i fail to understand that becoming No 01.
