I worked 30 years as a CNC machine operator for a global Dow 30 corp, and I saw the same kind of highly dispensable nature we saw in the tiktok influencer in a whole bunch of meeting mongering middle management mucky mucks at my former workplace. I personally had a number of pointy haired bosses right out of Dilbert. A bunch of grief avoiding self interested zoo keepers really. I used to say this all the time and it was true, if I took an unscheduled day off they'd feel it. If one of my supervisors disappeared for 2 weeks, maybe a month, nobody would notice at all.
What does it matter what they are doing if they are making money to support themselves and their family? Who are you to tell them what they need to do to make money?
That sounds SOOO familiar. Been there, done that, and no doubt worked for some of the very same pointy-haired boss clones. All too common in today’s work environment.
My father was a mechanic before he was legally allowed to drive until the day he died. I work at a car manufacturer in Ohio I work on my own vehicles I now know how to weld. I absolutely love dirty jobs. And Mike Rowe, he really does a unique job for the country to show them how hard working Americans pay their bills, and how they make civilized life possible for all of us. So much respect
Appreciate Mike so much. Reached out to him about help months ago. He was kind then later he reached out to check on me. I had to let him know my husband passed. Again he was so kind offered to help but didn’t really need anything but so appreciated his kindness. He shows that being a hard worker involves more than just the job
A welding school in Alabama is recruiting new students. The starting salary for a trained pipe welder is in the $50,000 - $60,000 range. Many are making six-digit salaries after just a couple of years on the job. My daughter works for a company that contracts with the Navy to provide welders and painters with very special set of skills that make in the mid- to high-six figures and they can control their own work schedule. Some work six or seven months and spend the rest of the year with their families! And, even with thousands of job openings, her company has trouble finding qualified candidates. Learning an in-demand skill is worth many times more than a piece of parchment that puts a person in debt for tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars!
It is also the industries bad additudes , I worked some where as a contractor at the permit shack they had a that said your attendance here is needed not wanted. Who wants to work some where where everyone is out to get you and you fast wrong you're fired

Thank you Tucker for giving Mike the voice to tell and show the story of where we have gotten. I was a very fortunate person to have gotten into a job at the local pulp mill in the Northwest and put myself through college and later a masters. Along the way to retirement, I was an engineer building some of the biggest projects in the world with the worlds largest design and build privately held company and was a military pilot in the USAF and Army. I couldn't have done this without the opportunity of being a retail clerk and janitor; later a bunch of stinky jobs in the pulp industry (the smell of money) and a bunch of crazy jobs at the university. Thank you USA and you guys for bringing out this story.

I grew up on a ranch. There’s always something that needs doing on a ranch. My grandpa could not bear to see any of us not working. If he saw us loafing, he’d find something for us to do so we use to post a look out for him. Whenever grandpa was spotted heading towards us, we’d all pick up tools and act like we were working. Lol
Rule of thumb, never let influencers dictate or influence you on how you must live your life, do your work , your love life, your finances, etc, etc. They are not your friends, your idols or anything special, they are just there to either entertain you, massage their ego and sell products.

When i was young i worked at McDonald's i hated it, so when I found a cassette tape i wanted to buy it was $20, i thought that's 8 hours of working at McDonald's..... That's when i learned that you trade hours of your life for things you want....
Which is why it’s important to go to college and get an essential skill. Life is much better when you only have to work 6 hours a day and make $200k+ a year.
@Todd Ferguson No, dummy. That was the market value for cassettes back then. They were replacing 8 track. And guess what else? VHS tapes retailed $100 on average.
Stories like this, where no talent children show up at the offices of social media companies and are coddled all day long, are nauseating. They literally make me ill, because it's all fake. But, I'm sure they sit around laughing at the rest of us who sweat, get dirty and make it possible for them to live their entire lives as spoiled brat children.
People have jobs like this because you no longer have to be smart or strong to succeed, you just have to be popular. You can blame the advertising dollars for letting people get overpaid for doing nothing.

Those hard-working, good-paying, blue-collar jobs are priceless. They pay well, you feel tired after a long day of work, you sleep well, you can look back at what you accomplished and feel very proud of it, and there is little politics involved which eat your soul. People, if you have young kids, even girls, steer them in this direction. They will always have work, get paid really well, network with other trades people that you can exchange favors with and for on our own home, and you can feel very proud of what you accomplish everyday
Tucker what's sad is they pay these football players and baseball players 100 million dollars 200 million dollars to play children's games while you got linemen out there negative 10° below in winter time working their butt off in the middle of the night at 3:00 a.m. fixing your electric so you can stay warm but they only get 35 or $40 an hour if they're lucky in some places.

Schooled a kid from Australia for six weeks. The kids was horrified to learn that she had to do her work no matter how long it took. Not the usual, scribble whatever on the lines or just sit and wait 45 minutes for class to be over. Some days she had to spend five hours working. One day, after trying every stunt under the sun to get out of work she threw her stuff down and said this was unfair, she was spending way too long doing school work and not doig what she wanted. I showed her a video of a Chinese 9th graders day at school. 6:30 am to 8:00pm. The kid was stunned and then blurted, "I'd never do that!" I said that was why in her state university the classes are filled with Asian kids from other countries and Aussies are not getting in. The Aussie kids can't compete, they don't work hard or long enough. So get ready to work for those same Asians when you get out of school as they will be the ones running your country. Your comment is underrated. Way too many conservatives have come to fetishize blue-collar, 'dirty jobs', when what we need is a wide spectrum of careers and jobs in order to have a functioning society.

Before retiring, I visited our Customer Interaction Department - a number of staff each day rang customers to ask them if they had had a great “experience” dealing with the Company - they had to put up with dreadful conditions - hands free headsets, exercise bikes, subsidised canteen, sensory room, quite/reflection dark room, sofas for relaxing after each telephone encounter to recover after the shock of hearing that a customer they were disturbing was less than pleased with THEM and that their “experience” with the front line staff was being reassessed because of THEM. The manager was exceptionally pleased as they were to be moved to a bigger, air conditioned unit, but when I asked, “what benefit do they actually bring to the Company in terms of bottom line profit” she could only state in vague terms that constant contact ensured the Company knew when it was doing it right.

I’ve seen Mexicans do harder work instead of writing paragraphs asking for a pity party 🤣 get over your bitterness snowflake
Great alliteration!

Kids today don't want to get dirty much less having to get off their asses.
It is also the industries bad additudes , I worked some where as a contractor at the permit shack they had a that said your attendance here is needed not wanted. Who wants to work some where where everyone is out to get you and you fast wrong you're fired

Which is why it’s important to go to college and get an essential skill. Life is much better when you only have to work 6 hours a day and make $200k+ a year.
You only made $3/hr and cassette tapes cost $20 at that time? How much were homes? 1 million dollars?

Thanks for all you are doing, Tucker and Rowe. America's work ethics will continue to be strong, thanks to you.
This is why young people like this don't respect themselves. They are spoiled, lazy and feel entitled. Great job Mike Rowe, thank you for what you are doing !
@link9866 Can you read and comprehend the English language ? "YOUNG PEOPLE LIKE THIS".
@link9866 Did we watch the same video of the "worker" going into the office ??? C'mon, please help me out with what you seen that I didn't. I love to learn and see both sides to a story. That looked more like holiday to me !!
I can certainly understand why the Twitter employees were so upset about Elon Musk taking over. I wouldn't want to lose a job where I get paid to eat, sleep, take breaks, eat some snacks, and then call it a day at 3pm.
Hey just ask JACK Dorsey he didn't do JACK for years!
When I worked as a carpenter, the rule was: You do NOT sit down unless you’re on break or lunch! And you do NOT remain stationary for more than 2-3 seconds, even if you are waiting for something; there’s always something you can be doing while waiting!
Same in food service. If you got time to lean, you got time to clean.
Masonry too
Sounds like you had it rough. Why do want others to have it as bad as you did?
@@iamyearning Rough? No. It was expected, and I never had any problem with it. I was being paid by the hour to work, and always did my best to fulfill what I felt was MY obligation to my employer.
If you consider it “rough” to perform your work while you are being paid to do so, and spend lots of time on the phone or playing video games, you are part of the problem. It used to drive me crazy to see other employees (notably one guy from Italy and another from France) get phone calls and spend 45 minutes doing nothing but talking on the phone; arriving late and leaving early without cleaning up; to me, that just showed ‘entitlement’ and laziness.
@@fredfarquar8301 I leave my phone in the car when I go into work and don't touch it until 8 hours later.
While you may have "expected" it, getting barked for being stationary for more than 3 seconds and not being allowed to sit do not sound like great working conditions. I think it's a sign of progress that some workers now have more comfortable working conditions, even if at the moment they're limited to white collar professionals working in corporate. Why is that something to be resentful about?
I dare say that a work stoppage by “blue collar” workers would have far more impact on society than the same by white collar “workers”.
You are just jealous that you don't have cushy jobs. If you want a cushy job do something to get one, don't be a hateful prick to people who have them.
But who will moderate the tweets!!! I can’t even fathom it.
@@tabbyreed8925 meh, when you grow up you’ll understand my statement.
How can you pull a ‘work stoppage’ when you don’t work??? 😮
A guy that has never had a real job on his life talking crap about people that live in his reality. Republicans love playing this game.
On that, "real work" note: People hate those jobs. It is miserable work in miserable environments for mediocre pay. They are often under contract with weak benefits as well. How do I know? I've done nearly every one of those jobs listed for over a decade. Alcoholism, depression, etc fill the air in these environments.
Mike Rowe should do a Dirty Jobs at Twitter. Just be sure to wear your white gloves, Mike. 🤣
It's a sad state when the vast majority of youth nowadays dream of becoming the next big "internet influencer."
They don't dream of building the next great superstructure, traveling through space, creating new energy technologies etc.
"vast majority"? Which source did you pull this out of?
@@COO113 It's pretty obvious.
Because they’re All tooooo stupid to do anything else
Are you really saying that it is sad to dream? Are you simple?
The future is gone. This is one of the worst periods of time to be a young person. Being young sucks in America.
I remember when a dream job was one you did inside, at room temperature, and didn't involve manual labor or cleaning up bodily fluids or human waste. Bonus points if the boss didn't psychology abuse you and the company gave you a good deal on healthcare.
Right on! Thanks both to Mike and Tucker...encouraging and real video.
Mr Rowe is one awesome dude! He brought a level of respect and appreciation to those thankless blucollar workers who carry the country on their backs, and managed to make it both informative, and entertaining. Hats off to you, Mr. Rowe, you've got my respect.
Moot point when the Federal Reserve just prints paper money, do a segment on that.
Totally agree!
To these people work is a dirty four letter word
Mike Rowe, super cool guy!
His voice is like butter
I am sure she was fired after this video !!!
THANK YOU MIKE!!!! WE NEED YOU AND MORE LIKE YOU TO MAKE AMERICA SELF SUFFICIENT AGAIN AND A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE and THANKS to you Tucker for helping and showing what Mike is doing for our country, Y’all are True Patriots
We need these people, not only for the essential work they perform, but to pay off the student loans that oppress the Tik-Tok generation. Thanks Tucker and Mike. And a very BIG THANKS to the real people who keep our world spinning.
Maybe ur generation should of built a better economy, that doesent result in the school system seeing 0 improvement, but outperforming inflation 2-3% times. God forbid u invest in the future😮😮
How about just NOT pay off the student loans and have the people who actually took them out pay them?
@@gamavidios Maybe you should have done better in school yourself. "Should of"? It's "should've", stupid.
Every job I ever got was hard to get and getting hired was a blessing to me. Amazon was like working in a Soviet gulag, so that only lasted a week, but I digress. So many of these people get good jobs without sweating it, and then they take their cushy job for granted.
Tic tok, the place where dreams go to die. lol
Shout out to the plumbers protecting the health of the nation 💪💪💪💪
This actually makes me happy! Happy New Year!!!!! Real working people bring me joy! 🎉 Thank you!!!!!
The Twitter employee doesn't realize that isn't work .I'm amazed she posted that on Tik Tok . How dumb is that girl ?
A twitter employee no less.
@@2Sherm I think the party at Twitter may be over for that young one!
Doesn't anyone want to work anymore? Incredible.
Do you want to scrub toilets? With a toothbrush? Then muck out the stalls with a butter knife? If so, hit me up. I am looking for some real patriots who want to work.
Love Mike Rowe
Mike is an excellent human being, thanks for having him on Tucker.
The bag house at a asphalt plant is the worse job I’ve ever had to do thanks mike
Pointing out that the easiest way to check this was too look at a customer sales by month chart caused a meltdown and a declaration that THEIR work and only THEIR work kept those sales charts by customer either going up or static.
Real people doing real jobs
this is the American dream for many college grads, big money for little work
