This song brings back sweet memories! Frampton comes alive is one of the first live albums that sold million copies all over the world. Show me the way is certainly one of the most popular songs on that album.
Stanley Sheldon plays bass and he does a fine job! In the Verse he plays the same groove with mostly only root and fifth notes. In the Dmaj7 chord he sometimes plays the third note of the chord instead of the fifth. In this way he makes the difference between the D chord and the Dmaj7 chord.
In the Chorus he plays a steady groove with mostly quarter notes on the beat. He also plays on occasional syncopated line (2nd half of bar 70 and 74).
I like the way Stanley builds his basspart. He stays easy in the Verses and he builds more licks in the Choruses as the song progresses. Listen for instance at bars 119-120 in Chorus 4 and in the Outro at bars 131-132 and 135-136.
I play this song on a Fender Precision (USA1976) with flatwound strings. Standard tuning E A D G. No effects used except a bit compression and a pre-amp.

Hi Pete! I was a pro session player for many years and gave up when I got married. I hadn't played for about 20 years but recently bought a bass and started again, to try to give my hands/fingers some exercise as they are a little arthritic. I've found that I have difficulty memorising stuff as well as I used to, so I've had to work on my sight reading skills.
