If a Disney film--or anything--needs paragraphs to explain, then it had better have sufficient nuance and depth. The most depth which we get from "The Little Mermaid" franchise came decades later, in a direct to film entry, within a brief flashback...for those who aren't catching my drift, I'm talking about Ariel's/the mermaid princesses' mother's death. There may be something to be said of the TV show, but that would take awhile.
Bro exposed how selfish and narrsasitic Ariel really is. Like her dad gives up the throne, becones one of Ursula's slaves, saves her multiple times, and tries really hard to make sure Ariel is safe all just to protect Ariel and make her happy yet she doesn't care nor does she even say thank you. Why is she hailed as some caring, victim, good guy when she's arguably as much as a bad guy as Ursula.
As much of a bad guy as Ursula is a lot of a stretch, like yeah she's self-centered but she just wanted to live her life on land, she didn't want anyone to get hurt.
Mate, teenagers violate bans all the time. Plus, her father specifically doesn't give two shits about actually talking it out. Keep in mind that the prequel didn't exist at the time (it wasn't created until nearly 20 years after the original came out). The ending does suck, but we have Katzenberg to thank for it, as the deleted one had a far more genuine apology. But nope, he HAD to go "make it similar to Die Hard". Plus, she wouldn't have enjoyed living the rest of her days here, nor would he have consented to her being a human. And since she can't turn herself into a human, she's kinda screwed either way.
@@Chyeerio My mother beat me, abandoned me in grouphomes as early as the age of 5, and made me feel like shit about myself for my entire life. My father bailed on me as a baby, and to this day refuses to admit I was ever his, despite the obvious resemblance. Sometimes parents are just shit. Worst her dad was though is overprotective. And obviously the fault is on the writers, no one is literally blaming a fictional character.

You know, I wouldn't mind seeing a version where Ariel eats all the fish and then stalks a guy. Ursula takes one look at her and says "I'm not going NEAR that! New plan!"
As someone who was in a school version of this, can confirm. This is what we did backstage. Lots of dirty jokes and moaning The eels are the most underrated characters in the whole show. They convince Ariel to go to Ursula, back Ursula up the whole way, and put up with her two-faced behavior.
Fun fact, I actually wanted to laugh my eyes out once I got to when Ariel was singing about fish and eating fish, but it was 3am and I didn't want to wake anyone up.
😂😂😂 That was savagely funny bro! Could you do the movie " Bartok The Magnificent" next? It was a spinoff of Disney's "Anastasia". I would love to see you critique that. Can you also do "The Swan Princess" too? That would be hilarious!
Can you imagine the work behind his work with every story? He has to write the text, practice it to match the cartoon, the funny stuff, the voices, wow he's really amazing and more helpful thsn a psychologist or a doctor by making us laugh 😂😂😂❤
Now I think about it, this reminds me of a story of a Tang dynasty noblean woman who gave up her wealth and family for a beggar man. She waited 10 years (as now a beggar who only eat wild vegetables) for him as he go to war and turns out, he actually married a foreign princess and have 2 kids with her in those 10 years. Smh This is basically kinda like Ariel but the original version
I guess this is not a serious video but I still get annoyed when people say “Ariel risked everything for a man she just met”. No that didn’t happened it’s clearly shown that she had been wanting to go to the human world before she even met Eric. Eric was a crush that every sixteen year old get. The only reason why people think she did it all because a man she haven’t even spoken to is because of the contract because of URSULA. He was just one of the reasons she wanted to go there and probably the most unimportant. Even in the song she didn’t say anything about him (I don’t remember if she had met him at that point) So I don’t understand why people say that she left everything behind because of a man. Ariel was always shown to be a curious character that wanted to experience an other world that is why she left. I didn’t mean to go on a rant but god have people not seen the movie?😭 well still a fun video I guess
@@treasureluna3218 She did ventured out in the town/marketplace, and she and Eric danced in the plaza, Ariel chased after things out of curiosity. Even messing with the puppets from the performer, she did explored and had fun. Sadly she couldn't always explore around the castle and outside when her life was on the line and only three days, she needed to kiss Eric to stay human permanently.
If she didn't "love at first sight" with Eric she wouldn't have disobeyed her father and went on land (even though he helped force her hand by destroying her treasures). But the contract was for her to make him fall in love with her so she could stay with him. Even in the second movie Ariel wasn't close to her family. Melanie was her karma like North West to Kim K
I just realized my sister is so much Ariel. My sister believes it's our dad's job to put her above everyone and do everything for her without any delays. But she doesn't respect our dad at all. LMAO I just rewatched the scene where Ariel sees Eric for the first time & the conversation just makes her seem like a gold digger: 1) she thinks he's handsome, 2) the butler mentions that Eric is a Prince, 3) the butler emphasizes that Eric is receiving a VERY EXPENSIVE GIFT, 4) they reveal in a conversation that Eric is being pressured to marry soon but is single because he believes in love at first sight, 5) Ariel bites her lip, thinking she has a chance for to pull strings to make that lucky girl be her, & 6) she saves Eric from drowning so that he both has a life debt to her and so that he notices her.
Ok I just realized how fricken LUCKY Ariel got that the man that she "fell in love at first sight" with was actually a prince. It could have been anyone & if he hadn't been a prince she would have lost her privileged Princess life.

Also every time she walks she feels as if sharp knifes cut straight through her feet and she bleeds uncontrollably while having no tears to cry , cause mermaids have no tears .) At the end her sisters give their hair to the sea witch in exchange for a knife, and the Little Mermaid has to decide wether she will kill the prince and become a soulless mermaid again or If she's going to dissolve into seafoam and cease to exist ... Anyway,I highly encourage you to read Hans Christian Andersen's The Littlest Mermaid it's so much better than the Disney film in every single way be it imagination, characters ,arcs, plot, stakes ... Disney's film is good for what it is but doesn't hold a candle to it's source material, the original tale is a tragedy and the happy ending in Disney's felt a bit corny ... Don't come at me with " all the stories Walt Disney adapted are dark and he toned them down .... " ,a lot of these tales like Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty had already being drastically altered and toned down decades before Walt Disney was even born .The stories he grew up with were already unrecognisable if you put them next to older variants ( it's an entirely different and multifaceted conversation so I'll leave it at that ),If you want to see a representation of Walt Disney would have adapted HCA's tale ( which he did tried but to no avail ), look no further than his 1940 adaptation of Carlo Collodi's 1883 book "The Adventures of Pinocchio" ...
