Absolutely no, I don't do patron, I can't afford extra fees, I really try to do the like and subscribe and let the adverts run. But 2 of my favourite TH-cam channels have gone the patron touted, and I now feel like a poor relation, as I feel that they just throw out scraps on their free channel. May be I'm wrong but I only have so much money on a pension! I am just so grateful for what you do. Xxxxxxx
I absolutely agree with you there, I have been disappointed too by some people who have gone to patreon and don’t post on TH-cam any more, it’s sad. My only thought on the other side of it (being the creator here) is that I’m very aware of what I do and do not share and would love to be able to share more about my life but TH-cam allows anyone and everyone to watch and I have no control over that and that raises privacy issues for me. A subscription service for those who were interested would make me feel a lot safer in sharing other aspects of my life.
As a pensioner, my funds are very limited so unable to go onto Patreon and reel the same about missing people using it. Thanks for starting this discussion x
What I wouldnt give for a cool day! I live in the middle of texas, and it’s almost 830 at night and still feels like 106. Doesn’t usually cool off here until mid oct.
I support several creators on Patreon. I like the additional content most creators provide, but everyone I support keeps up with their regular TH-cam channel. I do it mostly to support creators whose work I enjoy, but I also am happy to support through Kofi or similar.
I support 2 pateron Chanels non crafting yarny one Frankie off grid in central Portugal brilliant & super special The Mindful Narrowboat with the most fantastic art work from Vanessa I watch many crafting vloggers that I could not afford to become a patreon & choose between them because the ones I follow are simply THE BEST I love each & everyone I have said many times Rachel you bring me joy I would hate to loose watching your Chanel
Love the pouch you made. I ordered one of your bookmarks. Missed out on the tartan one, though, as someone bought it. Makes me a bit sad when a TH-cam creator goes to Patreon. It seems like those of us who supported the regular TH-cam channel get passed over on content for viewers who can pay. Not all of us have the budget to be paying creators to watch a video. Don't forget the little people who helped establish your channel but just don't have the money to pay.

Retired person here on a limited budget… I can’t afford Patreon, so I prefer donating via Ko-Fi. Others have mentioned that most podcasters have both a regular TH-cam channel in addition to “special” content that they post on Patreon, and that’s true in my experience, also. I just don’t watch the special content and make do with the regular podcast content that they post on TH-cam. I enjoy your channel very much, Rachel and I hope you continue to post! I would miss you if you start posting only to Patreon, but you do what’s right for you…! Take care!

Sorry to say summer in Scotland has been a little bit of a let down. I could count on one hand the number of times it’s been warm enough to wear shorts 😭. I know it’s Scotland but we do get it hot sometimes. It’s been chilly this week, just had my porridge again! The garden is starting to turn too, and school is back tomorrow… there’s no denying autumn is just around the corner 🍂
Hi Racheal. I used to subscribe to some channels on Patreon but have had to hold back on all that for now. It is a very friendly place and I know quite a few Y Tubers have gone over to it now. Stitch with Rachel has as well as Jooles, Gaynor, Emma of Vintage Sewing Box and many others. People can subscribe for as long as they wish and then dip in and out. Your summer box looked really lovely and I hope your autumn one does well too. You have sparked me to get going again on some scrappy projects as been down in the dumps for so long….. I’m not sure if they still do, but I believe Patreon used to not require all tiers cost something. But it also IS the point of that platform. With adding memberships on TH-cam, you seem to get the best of both worlds? At least from the outside.

People became so used to being entertained for free here on TH-cam that they feel like they are being ripped off now there are adverts, paid promotions, affiliate links, patreon accounts. Not everyone can afford a coffee out. Not everyone can afford Netflix. Not everyone can afford Patreon. Sadly that’s life and if you need to pay the bills then you can’t afford to continue putting out free content to people who feel entitled to it. I know you’d never abandon TH-cam because you love your viewers. Once they see your output here is the same then they’ll feel reassured. As for feeling like they are being left out of a club there’s little you can control regarding those feelings, sadly but you have to earn money or you’ll be going back to a 9-5 in the commercial world and then YT will be over for you and your viewers.

If you have friends working for " patreons" or patrons they can share more valuable information with you as for the extra time they have to put into it and stress and all that other personal principles that one has on the subject. I would probably miss your regular uploads as a simple viewer on a small budget . 😊 I think one should also be careful who are those becoming your patrons. Who needs drooling weirdos watching them?
I think the weirdos are more likely to be found on the open public channel than a paid Patreon account. I doubt anyone would bother to pay a monthly fee to troll you! I'm thankful that I haven't experienced any nastiness on my own videos.
Yes I do have a few friends using patreon already. It’s more about what I do and do not share on TH-cam because there’s no privacy at all. And as per the comment below, patreon would be a safer space because you can see who is joining and yes they would have to pay a monthly fee so would only be people genuinely interested in me.
That’s exactly my thinking! I’m aware I’m very careful about what I do and do not share. I’d love to share more, but the privacy issues of TH-cam hold me back as you just don’t know who’s watching.
Hey Rachel, I currently subscribe to a couple of Patreon channels of people I am genuinely interested in. To be fair there are quite a few I’d subscribe to but the cost soon mounts up. The content people share on Patreon is definitely different to TH-cam and more exclusive for the people who subscribe! Personally I love it but I can’t afford to subscribe to everyone that I want at the moment unfortunately xx

On the other side of it though I am aware that I have to be really careful with what I do and don’t share on TH-cam because there’s no privacy and you don’t know who could be watching. So it’s something for me to think about if I’d like to share more personal videos. I’d never leave TH-cam though. Although that’s also an interesting point re not being part of the clique.
On another note though money is tight, and that goes for creators too, so if i could make a little more money for the effort I put into videos, that’s also something I must consider. There’s a lot of interesting points on both side though.
Yes I can see that side of the argument too.. it’s something you need to decide, provided you still put out content for non patreon subs I will carry on watching you..and if my circumstances change I can consider getting involved…just not for the foreseeable. I can’t afford patroon as I have a number of people who I love on here and woth patroon you pay per channel so I would end up spending around £30 a month so it is a no for me xx
I’ve heard something really interesting and it’s this - sign up to a channel you’d like to see (maybe as little as $3 a month), watch everything on it that you’d like to watch, then the next month, cancel and sign up to someone else’s channel, and keep moving about. This way the cost is kept to the minimum, we get to support different creators, and we can go and watch as many videos as we’d like. Just a thought, and one I hadn’t considered as like you I was imagining signing up to everyone at once which just isn’t always possible for everyone.
Hi Racheal I love your videos but I also don’t follow any patreon videos. I understand that vloggers use it as an income but unfortunately I’m not in a financial position to pay for it. I have also unfortunately had to unfollow certain TH-cam videos as they have changed their content volume for their normal audience. I do appreciate that lots of work has gone into creating content but also a lot of people are struggling financially at the moment. I live in Victoria Australia and we are really struggling at the moment. We are almost in our 60s and luckily we don’t have much of a mortgage but I only work casual at our local school cleaning and my husband travels 65km to work and the fuel costs are killing us. I don’t mean to carry on but lots of people are struggling with it all. I hope one day things will be different but at the moment it’s not viable for me to pay extra for watching videos. It’s sad because I use TH-cam as a way to escape the horrible things that are happening around us. I love your channel and if that’s what you decide to do then that’s up to you. You need to do what is best for your channel. ❤ ❤
