True story, Biggie had Bone in the studio to do this & after they laid their verses, BIG had to go home & write his verse cuz he wanted to match that flow. So Bone never actually heard BIGs verse until the album came out & he had already been murdered before the album dropped. Crazzzyyyyy. Bone Thugs N Harmony are the only rappers to collaborate w/ Biggie, 2Pac, Eazy E, Big Pun & almost every other legend in the game.
And this is still one of the most recognisable verses by big, it's been used and sampled so many times, still to this day it goes down as the hardest first verse in rap.
Freestyle Fellowship been doing that on the West Coast. Literally everybody was doing it; there’s not one region. Or one person that invented it all. The 80s-90s certainly created the flow; but Bone didn’t create it. Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap were doing it. Just-Ice was doing it. Treach was doing it already; as well as Fu-Schnickens and Jaz-O. South was doing it; 36 Mafia, Street Military, Mystikal. OutKast were flipping their tongues also. Z-Ro also was. West Coast had Spice 1; E40; Freestyle Fellowship and numerous others. Saafir was doing it somewhat. Tech N9ne was doing it in Kansas City; Do or Die; Crucial Conflict, and Twista were doing it in Chicago. Nobody invented; and many point to coming up with it from listening to Jamaican toasting and Jazz scatting. So if anything they copied it from Reggae and jazz artists; who were the original “fast rappers.”
A few days BIG died, we were told the album release date. I was in 11th grade. You could call the music store and reserve a copy. One kid was willing to skip school and pick up a bunch of our copies when the store opened at 10am. Homie snuck back into school w like 30 double CDs and someone had a boom box plugged in the cafeteria and this is the first song that was played. Again and again and again like it was the only song yo this shit was LIT March 1997
I was only a few months old when this song came out, but my mom played this all the time growing up. Just going for late night rides blasting this in her chocolate cadillac.
There's a story behind how Bizzy did his verse in one take on this song. It's never been denied and said that he left Diddy in wow mode. One take for that verse (second verse) is insane.
That's crazy. The delivery was switching up from hard to soft so well I would've thought that would've taken a lot of takes to get right. Shows just how much he felt the lyrics
“When I was little” makes me feel so old. I’m 41 and I feel like everybody should know this song. I hate calling something a classic, because I feel like my parents referring to an old Motown song, but this is a CLASSIC.
I have loved Bone Thugs since I was 7, I'm 35 now and they are still my favorite rap group with Bizzy Bone and Krayzie Bone being my favorite rappers (along with Pac and Nas). Please do more Bone songs like: Everyday Thang (from The Show Soundtrack), Dayz of Our Livez, East 1999, Thuggish Ruggish Bone, First of Tha Month, Look Into My Eyes ...they have so many good songs.
Even without Wish and Flesh on the song, Biggie's flow and lyricism more than made up for it here. Krayzie, Bizzy, and Layzie all go nuts on this track. And I love Thug Luv with Pac, but Biggie's joint with Bone right here is just that much better to me. 💯🔥🙏
We called this the “ice cream” song when it first came out because the ice cream truck in our neighborhood sounded just like the music in the very beginning of this song lol.
When this first came out people listened to bigs verse 5x b4 we heard bones verse. It was crazy to hear him do this flow. It solidified his spot as being the best.
i've loved this track for over 25 years. it might be the fact i'm 41 years old but biggie absolutely runs this beat. and you guys are right. so i'm a music fan of all genres in general, but not really of mumble rap. but this shit, is fire, and has been since day one.....and let's not completely forget about bone. way underrated group.....this song is a banger. no other way to say it....banger

DJ U-Neek doesnt ever get the recognition he truly deserves for giving the group its distinct "bone" sound...like as soon as you hear it come on and the beat drops you know its Bone Thugs about to come rip on the track. U-Neek deserves all our flowers

I still have his double CD on this. The second track on the first disc told me everything. When I made it to this track....it was just too hard at this point.
They sampled this song for the most recent Fast & Furious film. Also, Puff Daddy put out a "Biggie Duets" album, where they used part of this song and remixed it.

I love this song. Makes me think about my kids and my nieces and nephews lol. They might be millennials, but they were raised by Gen Xers…Rest up, nephew, auntie loves you.
People tend to compare Biggie with 2Pac and they just have different styles of the music they create. They were both great artists, it’s just sad that they were in their mid 20s when they were murdered. Their music will forever live on.
2 pac was always my fave. I grew up listening to him and cried when he died. But I definitely have to agree that this song is amazing. I randomly just wanted to see reactions to one of my favorite songs. I'm 44 years old. Bone and Pac were my faves. Biggie was cool but I sided with Pac and back then the beef was hard. Same as Bone and Three Six Mafia. I didn't appreciate the other artists until way into my 30's Try some Three Six Mafia and No Surrender by Bone Thugs. Maybe some Shorty Wanna Be a Thug by 2pac. These songs weren't in the spotlight but bangers and real life stuff. No surrender addresses the way it was back then when the police were always killing whenever they wanted. So although I don't support police brutality, I will say that I understand why they felt the way they did back then. Check it out
Yo y’all should do…… 1.Caterpillar “ By Royce da 59 and Eminem . 2. Royce da 59 “ Cocaine” 3. Stressed ” By Conway the Machine. All🔥🔥🔥 with deep messages and Lyrical skillz

The track they made with Pac was more hardcore, and more of an undergound hit. The collab they did with Biggie, however, had perfect timing because both artists were red hot at the moment, and this song was more radio friendly so got way more play.
"I beg my pardon to Martin, baby, we ain't marching, we shooting" one my favourite lines by bizzy.
No doubt about it... It's one of my favorite Bizzy lines as well... Classick!!!
Finally someone mentions this!
Yep. Best verse on this song and the one with Pac.
@@marcusbennette8454 dope but nah BIG took the cake on this
@@twizzy585ots nah. Bizzy straight smoked big. And it was more apparent because they put him right after biggie 😅

@Calest facts! The song is underrated but producers love it! Drake and 40 and sampled this one!!
Krayzie bone also did a song with ice cube and it's hard
BIG facts
@@calest6251 its one of the hardest first verses but to me #1 is Inspectah Deck on Triumph. Greatest 16 in hip hop history its a perfect verse.
Now imagine. No one was rapping like this BEFORE this. Bone created this STYLE. All them drakes and migos and all that...its BONE
Don't let dudes from Chicago and Memphis see this because they was mad jealous. Both cities claim they was doing that before Bone.
They would probably say that because Twista and Do Or Die, but Bone thugs #1 tho hands down
@@jarjona48 Oh I know they are by far more superior

When ppl heard Big’s verse, everyone mind was blown. Every major artist wanted to work with Bone after they heard this.
Bone is legendary. There's no other group like them in the history of music.
And everybody stole their style and did their on version of it. One of the most copied groups of all time.
