    I have always pitched by staking the four corners first and doing the rainbow second. This is my favorite tent and always gets compliments at the campsites. Never had had condensation issues.

    What I like the most about this tent is that I don’t need freakin trekking poles! That’s one pound less to carry!😊

    I just ordered mine. The single-person Rainbow is the only tent I've ever used that fit my 6"3' body with room to spare. I love it to bits. This double version is even lighter than the silnylon single, so it was a no-brainer for me.
    My only minor bugbear with the Rainbow range is that the front and back mesh gutters, while excellent at collecting condensation, can be drafty even with the floor raised to cover them. It looks like the rainfly comes close to the ground in the Li edition, so hopefully that's less of a problem now.

    Thoughtful design and implementation. I'm not a fan of sleeves on shelters, but with the free standing and porch options, second thoughts would be given. Great video. 👍🏻

    Some people may skip checking the products because of the "tarptent" brand name, thinking it's some kind of a tarp that needs to be set up like some origami :) It looks awesome and the weight is fantastic. I think I'll get me one of these, the import fees to EU are a bit of a bummer, but probably worth it.

    I own both a Stratospire and a double rainbow. Even with the exchange rate incredible value , bomb proof and well worth the coin. Have seen snow sleet and sideway hail and they've held up through it all. Can,t say the same about the MSR Hubba Hubba and Marmot ghost (returned both oddly enough) .

    just wondering the can Li version use two trekpole stand on both side to strong the tent structure like the nilon version?

  • @user-my5ey6ow7m
    @user-my5ey6ow7m 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My older Rainbow 2 (not this lithium version) had an issue with the bug netting tearing at the curved parts of the doors. The bug netting did not seem to be strong enough for just normal use. I loved the tent design other than this failure point. Due to the tears in my Rainbow 2 I still revert back to my Squall 2 that I bought in 2004 and that tent has been through A LOT. I'll still use the Rainbow in cold weather when mosquitos, etc, are not a big issue but that's about it. If anyone has suggestions for how to easily patch noseeum netting that can handle even a moderate tensile load please let me know.

    Can a trekking pole go in the center door like the sil nylon version to give it more stability?

    • @tarptent
      @tarptent  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, no. The Li version is already more stable that the nylon version because of the lack of stretch.

  • @boxofmoles4057
    @boxofmoles4057 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What if the use of this tent is not hiking-related? Do you sell two collapsible poles for the porch configuration?

    • @tarptent
      @tarptent  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, "vertical support pole" and "carbon polypole"

  • @JohanLarssonKiruna
    @JohanLarssonKiruna 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I heard that the ability to use trekking poles for extra support under the cross strut was removed in the Li version? Was that because it was troublesome/expensive to incorporate, or for some other reason? I personally would really, really like that feature for the rare occasion it might be needed.

    • @tiburonimbus
      @tiburonimbus 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Henry told me that those grommets were removed. The porch-flap is also shortened due to the DCF sheets/length they receive. I also don't see the velcro that was on the vestibule doors that allowed a partial fold-back for airflow while the vestibule is closed, or extra loops on the vestibule itself. Haven't got to set my DRLi next to my 2019 DR, yet, because my yard is a swamp and... CoViD.

    • @tarptent
      @tarptent  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, for the reasons you describe and because the DCF makes the structure that much stronger in wind to begin with. The key word is "rare" and you can get any additional stability you might need by using the arch sleeve pullouts angled inward to provide upward force on the apex area.

    • @melaniegarden3416

    Hello,
    I ordered this tent but am having the hardest time finding very lightweight adjustable trekking poles to can go up to 57 inches. Someone on the Backpacking Light forums mentioned Leki poles but wasn’t sure which specific model type as there are so many. I will be using them double duty for hiking as well. Which poles can go to 145 cm but are still light?

    Is this tent fairly easy to set up on a wooden tent platform without trekking poles?
    It’s 50 inches across and you bill it as being a good tent for two even using long wide pads. Seems kind of tight, no??

    • @tarptent
      @tarptent  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For platforms, yes. It fits two wide pads and, yes, that fills the space. If you want significantly wider then you need to go to a 3-person shelter.
