Gilbert was such a naturally brilliant guy. No one made me laugh harder since I was a kid like Gilbert. I didn’t hear him on Howard’s show until early 2007 when I got Sirius. I loved that his appearances always went off the rails and gave us so many memorable and hilarious moments. RIP Gilbert., you were one of a kind.
I was born and always lived in New Orleans and I would watch the E, shows a lot. Finally in 1997 the Stern show syndicated to 106.7 the end alternative rock station and from 11-14 on the way to school my dad would turn it on and I’d use jokes off the show on my classmates that would have them in stitches because down here not many parents would tune in to Stern.

Gilbert was an original act, that's for sure. I personally, hated him back when he was a young comedian on the Saturday Night Live - 2nd crew. He was too obnoxious and unfunny in my opinion, I would like to someday rewatch his work to see if it was as bad as I remember. Sometime after SNL he found his character and became a great edgy comedian. RIP Gilbert 😢
I 'think' it went like this: When Gilbert was in the studio they (Fred and Jacky mainly) would try to get Gilbert to laugh at inappropriate moments during Robins news (like during stories about sick babies or murders etc). Which lead to Robin always telling Gilbert off :) This morphed into just 'playing' Gilbert's recorded laughter at inappropriate moments (at first, while Gilbert was in the studio) ..which in turn made the real Gilbert start laughing :) The show used the same idea with Jacky's laugh too
