Kid Charlemagne Guitar Solo

- I play Kid Charlemagne by Steely Dan with my band The Experts. We have 4 guitar players and the leads are covered so I play the rhythm parts live but I was challenged to learn a solo for one of my classes this semester. I chose this one because it's so much fun and Larry Carlton does such a such nice job of playing over the changes.
Rick Beato discussion of this song made me search for solo covers. This is done very well by a talented person. Cheers.
Rick Beato is such a twit. He's like that Bourdain doofus, no talent but worms his way into celebrity encounters to feed his sad ego. lol
This was my favorite song as a teen. Young lady, you are killin it here! Thank you! Brilliant talent!
Thank you!
My favorite Steely Dan song. You played it perfectly! Bravo!
You nailed it. I love seeing a great female guitar so talented. I know you practiced a lot. You ve got the magic touch.
great cover, wish i could come up with solos like that, Larry Carlton is a true master and innovative guitar player
Beautiful touch, sound and playing! Complimenti sei bravissima 😊
So nicely done. Gotta say, you've replicated Carlton's touch better than anyone else I've heard trying to do it on their own. Great job!
That was great! Nice job with just about everybody's favorite solo.
This solo is deceptively crazy. It sounds smooth but the chords are all over the place. You nailed it
Thank you!
Very sweet tone and playing!
You my dear are SPECTACULAR. Thanks for posting.
OMG one of my FAVORITE solos of ALL TIME, and you nailed it. Steely Dan never performs it like this anymore sadly.
It’s one of my faves, too. Thanks for watching.
I love the nails, they help to see where the fingertips land. Guitaring in the 70's didn't get much better than Steely Dan, truly memorable.
How did i miss this for 7 freakin years?????????? Soooo nicey. Gr8 jorb!
Thank you 🙏
@@julifinnmusic You're quite welcome. I've watched Jay Graydons run down on this solo a million times. It speaks for itself, obviously. Your rendition is outstanding. So smooth and evocative!
Dan leads are always worth the effort - well done!!
Damn , in my opinion one of the best leads of all time.... you did a great job performing it!,
Beautiful. The guitar playing was perfect as well.
One of my favorite solos. Great job. Subscribed. Cheers
This is a perfect guitar solo, perfectly recreated by you. Bravo.
Thank you. It is a blessing to me to play it!
Every note nailed. Wildly sophisticated Carlon solo absolutely nailed. Now I have to learn it.
Thanks so much! I highly recommend learning it. It’s a joy to play.
How do I know she nailed it? because It is one of the cleanest, most memorable solos ever written. It's a signature piece. If you know the solo, whether you can play it, sing it or just hum it, you know when someone is off. Well played!
Fantastic! Loved that.
Really terrific. One of the best solo covers I've seen.
I stumbled upon this by accident. So far I have hit this over 20 times. Without a doubt one of my favorite all time solos. Thank you for sharing! Great job... You got an A+ here.
Very nicely done. I have to learn this for a gig so your video will be a very useful resource-thank you!
Fantastic! It’s such a wonderful one to get down.
Fantastic! You absolutely nailed it
Thank you!
Very well done! :-) Steely Dan is awesome and you are too! I really enjoy a lot of different music, from metal to orchestral..lol.
Legend has it that Sir Lawrence laid down this solo in 2 takes. And the reason for that was the recorder was not working properly, so it had to be done a second time. Wow. LC- Man i love your playing....thank you for sharing your excellent work. And, your a babe...
Wow this is the most accurate and spot on ive seen another person play these solos.
Love this 👏👏.!!! Herb 🇮🇪☘️
Well done Juli the tone and technique are spot on !!!!!!!!
Thanks! It’s such a fun solo
Excellent run, precise!
Nailed it to perfection....nice one.
Thanks for watching and also for kind words.
I do know there are many hardcore Steely Dan fans like myself (and my 19 year old son!) who are not nearly as proficient/practiced on guitar as you. Your cover gets the soul of the solo as well as the technical nail down. I love many diff genres of music but Steely Dan’s musicianship, great songs, and sly lyrical intelligence in one package are incomparable and once in a lifetime. Which is to say
that if you cover more SD solos lots of folks will tune in. Your video has inspired me, a work in progress. If I may I would like to hear you cover the opening of Don’t take me Alive, thanks.again.
when young ladies play those things i listen without seeing it,kind of blind audition. You definitly nailed it,great tone and sustain
Sounds perfect, looks effortless. Bravo!
Noice! Excellent overdriven crunchy tone too.
Very nicely done Julie. Not an easy solo at all. Never repeats any typical lines or scales. Well done 👍
Just tremendous!
Nice job on my favorite guitar solo. Larry Carlton just killed that one. Such a beautiful, melodic solo where every note counts. I learned this note for note when I was younger, when there was no such thing as tab and TH-cam, and I just had the recording to go on. That was a challenge and obsession. It took me a long time to figure out that tap at the end, as I'd never heard of that technique; it was not at all common at the time. I haven't played it in a while; maybe it's time to revisit it. Thanks for the inspiration.
Yeah Julie! You are one of my favorites and of course you nailed this!!
“ clean this mess up or will all end up in jail the test tubes in the scales get them all out of here” I love that verse
Love it! My fave is “is there gas in the car? Yes there’s gas in the car”
The worse one..."is there gas in the car? Yes, there's gas in the car."
“Gas in the car” only makes sense if you know the story behind the song.

"Hell, I can get you a lick by 3 o' clock this afternoon -- with nail polish!" Love it, thanks!
I'm a 30 year guitar player, semi pro coz the music scene in Tasmania Australia is quite small! Loved the way that was done, I've seen Maddie Rice play this solo too, but I think you actually do it better in the sense your version, even though your playing a Strat sounds more like Larry Carlton who I assume played it on his ES 335. I play a Les Paul through a Marshall so as I nail the licks I'll have to focus on a tone a bit then to be able to touch what you do, so far you're kickin my ass BUT I"LL GET IT EVENTUALLY, so thanks for a VERY HELPFUL VIDEO! It's a great help!
Bravissima!!! Now time for the solo at the end of the track 😉😂
So fluid. Nice work! 🎸
Thank you 🙏
Very nice. Saw Larry live once, one of the greatest ever. He can play fast if he wants to, but his phrasing is amazing. He always plays everything that sounds so musical.
He is really amazing!
Really fluid..... and that's what makes it so good! Badge of honor!
Thank you!
I love your amazing talent, you crushed it!
You nailed it, with just the right pinch of strat🎸👌🏻
smooth... not sterile... right in there... Very nice...
Wow, awesome
Nice job. Great vibrato. Yeah, it's a pretty perfect solo. Good ol' Larry!
Excellent!
Great job. I think in the Beato interview with Mr. Carlton that Walter Becker asked him to try it with a Strat. Sounds good to me!
Uneffenbelievable! Just fantastic!
Thank you 🙏
Nice work. Like the rhythm section as well.
Thank you! Such beautiful chords in this tune.
VERY NICE JULI YOUR MY FAVORITE EXPERT MISS YOU GUYS
Thank you! We are hoping to be back soon.

You nailed it. that was so smooth.
Perfect !
Awesome!
Beautiful rendition. Brava Signora. Brava. 👏👏👌
Exactly how it sounds! Too good!
Yea. Spot on.
If you'll forgive a bit of comment necromancy, this clip has really been a big help to me as I recently undertook the task of learning this solo (its one of my favs) and you have helped tremendously (the static camera and your precise playing has been teremendously helpful). Thanks a lot (and your version is probably better than mine ;) ). The rest of the song is falling in line well as well. Thanks again.
Thank you. I’m glad it’s been helpful. It took me a while to get it down and I’m still working on it.
Very nice!
I'm really enjoying your videos.
Glad you like them!
Done with feel thank you
Really nice, keep up the good work
Pray for the well being of our spieces as a whole, and keep making people happy with your music, you really got a talent.
Beyond brilliant, thank you :)
Thank you so much!
@@julifinnmusic You’re quite welcome, I’ve been working on this solo for six months, not even close yet! ;)
Love it!
Great job!! Sounds so smooth and natural!
BTW... would LOVE to hear you play the intro to Don't Take Me Alive. :-) For me, the best guitar intro in all of pop music.
Great job. Had all of the little inflections.
That was SWEET!!!
Def nailed it...smooth!
So Nice......
On the ball kid!
Great job on this solo!!! Awesome playing...
Mad skills but im reminded of the band in the Airport/Hotel Lounge! Thanks for sharing Juli
Thanks for listening
