As a mental health provider I would like to thank you and Alex for using your platform to highlight mental health issues. You let people know that everything is not sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, and that’s okay 👌
I am grateful for people like you Emma :) you really make a difference with your untamed and unfiltered and unapologetic true attitude.. long may your reign you beautiful angel :)
Amen Emma. Well spoken. I lost my son in 2018 and live day by day and hoped to use travel as my medication until 2020. Each day can be a struggle but one needs to find just the little things. Little things matter no matter what anybody says. Stumbled across your site this summer and find it refreshing and true. Keep laughing, you don't know what that does for people who watch. Smiling here. Beans Out.
Marry her Alex. My wife of 31 years died suddenly in 2019 and you have no idea what your life will be like without her. Take it from this old man, marry Emma Cox. You won’t regret it.
I feel sorry for you and who you lost. That is a very hard situation, but not knowing your current mindscape, I do hope you find the strength to get your life back on a positive track after such a hard trial
Emma, I don't know if you realize it, but we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday here in America in 3 days. For all that we've turned the holiday into, your voice in England is actually one of the clearest messages we should be focusing on this Thanksgiving. Thank you.
Emma, thank you so much for sharing this video. I am a recent above the knee amputee and believe me, I have experienced the literal pain, which comes from nothing else but the brain, in phantom pain. I could numb my nerves with medication, but have found if I breathe deep and think of the wonderful things I have experienced in life and my family and pets, the pain goes away. It is all in our heads. Love you guys and we are all looking forward to wearing our sausage/tree shirts on Christmas!
Emma, I have dealt with depression for most of my adult life. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to talk about it openly as you have done, but it also helps so many people to see you facing it head on. I have found that the more I talk about my struggles, the less of a grip it has on me. I'm not embarrassed by my depression, just like I'm not embarrassed by having diabetes. Keep fighting, Emma. Even when you feel your worst, there are people like me who are cheering for you and praying for you. Thanks for doing this. You changed lives today.
Thank you Kevin.. 🙏 I hope it becomes a more normal thing to be open and talk about, because there is no need for anyone to be embarrassed. I think we'd be surprised at how many of us have struggled or are struggling 💛
I have been there and went over it as well, in the past. Unfortunately the challenges of 2020 made me relapse into medication after losing my job, and having to do it all by myself, being a single mom. It s all because of fear, but not for me, for my kids. However I am grateful I was able to watch you today while being cozy in a plaid and sipping a warm delicious tea. And I am grateful I have my kids who actually, even if it' s also worries for their future, give me the strength to fire up my motor to continue going on and find solutions
I am grateful for AA. It saved my life 19.5 years ago.....and gratitude was and is one of my main tools. I still need anxiety meds...very small dose, but it am grateful it is there to help me. I am grateful I found your channel. You two are wonderful people. God bless...
Love the series. After working in a job for a few years that was making me sick with anxity and stress decided to to put myself first. Currently unemployed but am happy and looking forward to getting a job that I can be happy with. It won't be easy but I am currently a lot happier in myself
Today I am grateful for your video message. It has been a tough year as you said and I too, like many others, have suffered from pandemic fallout. I am a traveler stuck in my home country under a strict travel ban outside of my community. I too suffer from depression and 2020 was like a mental health mosh pit. Each day is a struggle and today am am grateful that I heard your story. If you can keep smiling, so can I...
Grateful for a wonderful partner that has been on front lines of Pandemic for months. Also grateful to have found your wonderful channel and your bravery talking about depression. I've had chronic anxiety most of my life and it was a struggle to talk about it. You two are a definite piece of light in a not great year. Also have you considered doing a Patreon channel?
Thank you for your candid video. It is wonderful to learn that you are successful in keeping yourself from being overwhelmed by depression. Keep being confident. Thank you for stressing the path to a blessed life is to be appreciative and the importance of having a gratitude journal. Guess what, I am going to start one myself ! I hope that the positive effects will shine and rewire my brain too. Keep posting such wonderful videos. You are a such a blessing and wonderful person. God Bless! .
I'm so happy to hear that edith! A gratitude journal is a great thing to do with your morning coffee or whatever, as its a great way to start the day in a positive headspace 😊 I hope you find it helpful! Thank you do much for your lovely comment
I've struggled with depression as so many have. It's so true about being grateful and changing the 'radio doom and gloom' in your head - as one book I read called it. I'm daily grateful - amazed tbh - that I'm a Dad. My 2 are teenagers, but it still floors me 2 people in this world call me Dad.
You have inspired me to pick up my gratitude journal and start again. I know it makes a huge difference, but I start slipping away and losing the habit. It helps to have reminders of what works. Thank you Emma.
Thank you for being so candid about your depressions. When I first experienced it 10 years ago it was more taboo to discuss. While it’s still taboo to some people, talking about it honestly changes that over time. I’ve been on and off anti-depressants three times now, taking then when I feel like I need them, and then weaning myself off VERY SLOWLY when I don’t, all with the guidance of my doctor. Your honesty is refreshing and hopefully liberating for some people experiencing the same things! ❤️
I loved this! I started a gratitude journal when I was I was living in Australia in 2007. On one side I wrote what I was grateful for that day. On the other side what I was grateful for, that hadn't happened yet. The things started happening for me that I wrote down. Our minds are and thoughts are so powerful. I wish for all of you more happiness than you can imagine.
Staying in the moment, I am grateful you made this video. I believe the message can be well received especially coming from someone outside a person's inner circle. You know what I mean? Thank you for sharing your experience! Big virtual hugs from Chicago!
Hi you two, I am so glad you come through your nightmare, I witnessed other peoples stress, depression and breakdowns and thought I was the lucky one until it happened to me. Good on you for highlighting your journey physically and mentally. Just watching your travels seems to lower my blood pressure and I feel a calmness. I hope you are still happy and together and I look forward to following you both on Facebook. Stay safe, Adrian
You are so lovely Emma! Great to see a Bean this morning. I focus on the positive too and my life is good. As simple as my life is, I'm living someone else's dream. When I'm out in the cold I remind myself how lucky I am I have a warm home to go back to, I have food, enough money (not loads but enough), I'm safe, I have family....I could go on and on, so much gratitude. You too are living someone else's dream. If you and Alex do your homework on places you'd like to travel to and put it all together for your viewers to see, I would happily watch. I need ideas but where to start?!! My husband thinks you should be travel presenters on the telly. Happy thoughts to you both, because everything in life is how we choose to look at it. x
So glad to hear the scammer got what he deserved and you guys got your money back..... So grateful to have found your channel. You are beautiful and genuine. Cheers from Kayleen 🇦🇺 down under
Never would have imagined you were ever depressed. With that precious smile, I thought to myself, what did I do wrong to not be this happy. Today is the first day I found this channel, and it is great and your smile is probably the thing I like best about it, and your personality. Of course don't forget to be grateful for your husband! Probably number one. For me, I am grateful to God for giving me all the answers to my questions and prayers, and though I suffer now, and we all do, his plans for this earth are everything to me. “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, · Nor have entered into the heart of man · The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”. Reading the Bible can make everything clear. And understandable. May God Bless your heart! I know he absolutely can!!! And I hope and pray he will!!!
Yes, meds help. They gave me a bit of space between me and my depression/negative emotions. I am not my disease. But it’s great to get to a space where you can cope with it on your own. I am so grateful for you and your journey! I feel so much joy in your channel. Keep it up!
Talking about this issue so free and open in public is is VERY BRAVE of you. Wow. In great parts of many societies, talking about depression and mental problems is obviously still a taboo - while talking about physical problems is quite "normal" and not a big deal. Anyway, it is good to see the clever, funny and wonderful Alex at your side. We are so sorry, that you got scammed AGAIN (remember the VW-Van!)! Jesus! Thanx again for your inspiration. Go ahead, Beans!
Love it, having been in a similar boat I know the appreciation journal really works. I have to admit I'm useless at doing it but its something that I get my eldest daughter to do as she unfortunately seems to struggle with her emotions and can get stuck in a negativity cloud all to regularly. As soon as she says three things from her day it makes her think and within a short space of time I have my smiley happy girl back
What are we grateful for? Well, one of the things we are grateful for is Travel Beans. In this crazy, sad year, you two have helped lift our spirits with your adventures, your humor, and your personal stories. Thank you! By the way, the benefits of an attitude of gratitude were known to the practitioners of "Stoicism" (a school of philosophy) as far back as ancient Greece. It was central to their philosophy. You might enjoy some reading on the Stoics.
The scumbag is in prison! Excellent! I'm really happy you are navigating your way out of depression. It is a navigation process as I found when I came off the antidepressants a few years ago. With the experience of knowing how it feels I was able to identify the darker feelings and navigate away from them. Over time these feelings become fewer and further apart to the point I am back to my old self. So with your thought 'tools' to hand and family around you, you'll be super fine. :)
From an Aussie psych nurse...THANK YOU Emma for sharing your story. You are an inspiration & I’m so glad to see & hear you are doing so well! Love your channel!!! You both keep me inspired to work hard & keep saving the $$ to continue my travels around the world! Keep up the awesome work guys xx
Very happy for you guys and you especially Emma for demonstrating how strong you got! I too have heard over and over again that gratitude journal every day helps us to be more appreciative. I need to start doing that!!!
Thank you Emma. I think it's a nice tool for changing how you view things throughout your day. If you know you're going to be noting what you're grateful for each day, then you're going to look for those things everyday. Having a positive outlook at you experience everything throughout your day instead of a negative attitude about those same things, leaves you happier at the end of it. So, the tool you describe helps you train your mind to look for good. And, since we always find what we are looking for...
I am grateful for everything and grateful you reminded me. I live in Great Malvern uk, so not far from WS Mare and my niece has/had cloud 9 cake shop in Brighton. I was on and off depression medication for 17 years at the end on huge amounts, feeling worse and more suicidal, not taken anything for 10 years now. Yes better to ride the storm. Well done. Love your channel.
I feel your pain; I was scammed on an apartment in Brussels (I was moving there for an internship). I paid probably near one thousand pounds and after a quick image search, I realised that the apartment in question was in London, NOT Brussels, and I had thus been scammed. It is just the worst feeling, knowing that someone has just cheated you. I felt violated. I got some of the money back this year after Western Union did a massive inquiry involving a whole network of scammers. It took 4 years to get some sort of money back but I'm happy I did. I also realise how naive I was back then. Now I think 'of course it was a scam!' But 22 year old Kristina didn't know this! I also know what you mean about 2020 weirdly being the best year of your life. This year has been the worst in so many ways for me but also the best personally. I finally started a business venture I've always wanted to and just got more creative! All the best for the end of your 2020! I hope you can travel more next year (as I hope to!)
My wife told me that she used to do a Gratitude Journal, and she still has it. She was inspired by your video and found it. Both my wife and I will be writing in it, daily. Today, we are grateful for our health and each other. BTW, we have been married for 47 years. Our marriage keeps getting better!
Good share, I can actually see you believe in what you are saying while you are saying it, it's original, always a pleasure to see your smile, it's sweet ❤️
Love this message Emma! I do believe gratitude and mindfulness can really help a person live a better life. Your words were well spoken here. I just joined "the good old days" on Facebook so I am ready to go with you two. Can't wait for adventures to follow. Cheers mates!
I appreciate you both, its refreshing to see nice, sorry about "the nice" as some people hate the word BUT YOU ARE . This pandemic has brought out the best and the worst in human nature and you are a couple of the good guys....thank you
I met you both from Kara and Nate. They have abandoned a trip down the California coast. So glad to have heard from you. Stay safe and let's go on another adventure. You always have taken us that watch your channel on some good ones.
Thanks so much for sharing your struggles and then your victories. I'm grateful for my home, my husband, Fred our darling cat, our health, the fact that we don't need much to be happy, it's having the right attitude and keeping things simple. Take good care.
Such a relatable video, I very much enjoyed it. Very grateful for this lazy day, and my pups keeping my feet warm while I surf TH-cam. On a side note, I was lucky to visit Brighton (I'm from the States so were able to fly nonstop Chicago to Gatwick and take the short scenic train in to Brighton) in August 2019, and was so pleasantly surprised. Such an artsy, seemingly close nit community. One of the many highlights was finding a great barber who had a place tucked away with just one chair for hair cutting off the high street. He was a really interesting guy. I definitely plan on visiting Brighton again!
We just started watching van life vids and WE LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. You two are informative and hilarious. You make life look fun! Thanks for the hours of entertainment
Love Love Love this video!! One of my favorites by far!! I’m grateful for meeting my now husband a few months after my mum died from lung cancer 2 years ago.
Honestly I've been absolutely binge watching your videos through lockdown and I really loved this one. Using you platform to highlight mental health is so amazing. Massive hugs! Also, thank you for inspiring me to get back into vlogging here in England. Stay safe xxx
I got scammed out of most of my life savings a couple of years ago, and now with the economic consequences of this pandemic, it looks like I will become penniless and homeless by the summer. A chat with the local council about trying to get a local authority dwelling, looks fairly bleak - there are so many facing similar circumstances. My last years will be characterised by poverty, hardship and possibly homelessness - not what I'd planned at all! However, walking, cycling, nature and appreciation of friends are getting me through this difficult time, and I have good health! Life can be more random than we like to think. Best wishes to your continuing happiness, Emma.
Great story. A grateful leaves us with no room to complain. It prevents us from being whiners or just negative. Good on you. Because I’m a Christian, I direct gratitude to a Person- Psalm 107:1 says, "Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” Love the ending to your vlog story- scammer behind bars. What a relief I felt. The Travel Beans are fast becoming my favorite duo. Alex is hilarious and you’re sweet and giggly-what great pair. Take care of each other- hugs. Rooting for you! Woohoo! 🥳
Thank for such a positive vlog, Emma. I feel lucky for not having the mental issues that you have been noting, but I know people close to me who are. It has been a tough year. I have a milestone birthday next month and have been sad that my travel plans for the celebration have been crushed because of the Covid risk. But none of my family/friends have died of it, and we are all healthy, so I know it is all perspective. Thank you for this vlog.
Thank you for sharing your journey. It’s really hard to deal with depression and you provide hope to those that feel hopeless. I’m so glad you got your money back and that scoundrel is in jail! There is so much to be grateful for and we need to focus more on that than what’s not going right. Tomorrow isn’t promised to anyone so “today is the day that the Lord has made so let us rejoice and be glad in it.” I think King David was right on with that verse. Yes live the good old days! Stay safe and God bless💞🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing your journey! My aunt is bi polar and her depressive episodes are very bad. The meds truly saved her life multiple times. So I'm a believer in medicine BUT I really wish doctors would also prescribe exercise, counseling and things like an appreciation journal. If my aunt had learned some of these things, I think it could have staved off some of the depressives episodes. It wouldn't cure it but I think it could have helped. She's doing great now btw. Thank you again for sharing.
2020 was a bad start, but i quickly realized that 2020 is not so bad. Many people fear and hate 2020 but i realized that it helped me not spend money randomly, help me learnt how to be more calm and learned that alot of people steuggle with mental health and as a person who lives off positive energy from the earth and people i always remind myself that they also need a "hello or a good morning wave" it can make a person's day. Emotion is key for people and its very impressive to still be a good person no matter what.
I really am thankful for the variety of vlogs I follow. Emma, your story makes me happy. I am thankful for my wife of many years, our house, our ability to do things like golf during this pandemic with friends, and while we miss our son and his family, I am thankful that they are all well. I am hopeful to be traveling again soon, as I am sure you are. However, in the meantime, we should all be thankful for the trips we have made and the joys we have shared. Keep up the good work, Emma. And as for Alex, I can only echo Lucas Pickford's comment below - MARRY HER ALEX.
I appreciate this video very much. I have also struggled with anxiety and depression. 2013 was my year of gratitude by way of a gratitude jar. It really was a revolutionary year for me. We love your videos and look forward to what comes next. We're hoping to retire to Italy one day. Perhaps we'll cross paths out in the world. All the best! Thom and Kelly.
Thank you so much Emma. I must admit to struggling with motivation this year, bordering on depression guess, so I founds this really helpful. Looking forward to seeing your next set of videos.
Thank you for doing this vlog Emma. I am so happy for you that you have got to this place. I am certainly grateful for having discovered your channel during the pandemic and love watching your content. Thank you. x
This is so encouraging and probably enlightens to some people, we all forget that gratitude journal when we are down, I think you should rename this so more depressed people can get easy help - great work😀
Awesome Emma!! ... thank you so much for sharing and so many important things to think about during these times. So important to be grateful for all of the little things we are truly blessed with each day :-) Glad to hear you two are doing so well!! ... brutal on that scam though.
Emma, great video and I love the new branding. Serious suggestion for a new Beans revenue stream: Get a public speaking agent and pitch a talk about Living the Good Old Days to wellness/travel conferences. You two could totally do this.
I'm grateful to have brain chemistry that seems to keep my outlook positive. Also grateful that I was born in a time and a place that meant favorable circumstances and outcomes would require only modest efforts. I'm grateful for all the simple and sublime things life has to offer.
I think that one of the best lessons I have learned from a tribe from Peru (the Ititas) they say that you have to "think with the heart and feel with the brain" and this has help me so much. Thank you Emma. And beans out. Se cuidan chicos. Adiós. 🤗😘
Hey Emma, I used to have a pretty shitty life. Being independant nowadays I am doing pretty well. So now I am in the phase I can be in a mental down but realize at that time there will be better times and you need down times to enjoy the better times. My motto : "There are no mountains without valleys" ;-) You go girl! You are blessed with a good guy next to you and a pretty face and a good humour... Now make life work for you ! :-)
People on TH-cam are influencers! Its important for many to remember this. You are a blessing to many people and especially this vlog today. Well done 👏✔. Positive breeds Positive We will all look back on 2020 having learned and grown. Kudos to you both and cheers to all of our journey's, especially moving forward 👊😁
I am so grateful for the wonderful video. You spread joy ,happiness, knowledge in your videos. If not a travel blogger, you would make such a wonderful teacher.
As a mental health provider I would like to thank you and Alex for using your platform to highlight mental health issues. You let people know that everything is not sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, and that’s okay 👌

You must be very proud of yourself, standing these tests. Great to hear you managed to cope with these setbacks without medication. Kudos.
I agree, an attitude of gratitude puts things in real perspective. Be thankful for all you have.
Very happy for you guys and you especially Emma for demonstrating how strong you got! I too have heard over and over again that gratitude journal every day helps us to be more appreciative. I need to start doing that!!!
Very happy to hear that you got your money back and that that maggot scammer is now behind bars. Thank you for the inspiration, Emma.
Love "Live the good old days". 💖💖💖 A thousand years worth of wisdom in that!
I just wanna hug you through all the video
Way to rise up from adversity and keep up the spirit. You have one of the most captivating smiles ever.
Good share, I can actually see you believe in what you are saying while you are saying it, it's original, always a pleasure to see your smile, it's sweet ❤️
So great to hear you guys are doing well after the bummer of a year this one has been! Can’t wait to see the new series!
agreed
Enjoyed this been sober for over 5 years now and nature, gratitude and living in the day are the basics to a peaceful life. ✌🏼
This pandemic has brought out the best and the worst in human nature and you are a couple of the good guys....thank you
I've suffered with depression all my life. I am so happy for you. Congrats!!
I met you both from Kara and Nate. They have abandoned a trip down the California coast. So glad to have heard from you. Stay safe and let's go on another adventure. You always have taken us that watch your channel on some good ones.
Grateful for people like you that makes the world a much better place!!
We'll miss the earn less live more line. But understand why you want to change. Love your positivity about this year. 😃❤️
Because I’m a Christian, I direct gratitude to a Person- Psalm 107:1 says, "Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!”
Love the ending to your vlog story- scammer behind bars. What a relief I felt. The Travel Beans are fast becoming my favorite duo. Alex is hilarious and you’re sweet and giggly-what great pair. Take care of each other- hugs. Rooting for you! Woohoo! 🥳
You’re both great storytellers, by the way.
This put a smile to my face. Been following you since you met each other and started travelling. Glad to see things turned out for the best. 💕
There is a song by Carly Simon called Anticipation. The pertinent line in it is "These ARE the Good Old Days"
@Campervan Beethoven When I was a teenager it was unavoidable . On the radio once an hour ✌🏼
@Campervan Beethoven In the 70s , there was nothing else
@Campervan Beethoven Not in my car or at work . which is where I spent most of my time ✌🏼☮️
I really am thankful for the variety of vlogs I follow.
Thank you Emma, thank you for speaking out about depression. I am very thankful for my family and friends
I am so grateful for you and your sharing this message, Emma. You blessed me today.
Looking forward to seeing your next set of videos.
hang in there dear you guys are doing great!! 202 20 sucks for a lot,.but i am glad it up-lifts you,..you deserve happiness.
Emma so enjoyed today's video. You made a lot of sense dealing with life at times. Looking forward to this news series.
Love your positivity Emma, inspirational listening to you. Im now inspired to start a gratitude journsl more than ever ❤
I like the phrase, we are going to earn less and travel more, for a happy life. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for doing this vlog Emma. I am so happy for you that you have got to this place. I am certainly grateful for having discovered your channel during the pandemic and love watching your content. Thank you. x
I really like your outlook in life.
Hope to see more of your travels together.
Merry Christmas and stay safe always!
This is so encouraging and probably enlightens to some people, we all forget that gratitude journal when we are down, I think you should rename this so more depressed people can get easy help - great work😀
Thank you for that video, Emma. Have a merry merry Christmas time!
Looking forward to more videos from you and Alex.
Happy for you guys ! Stay strong, I am sure the beans are gonna rock in 2021.. Let's all live the good old days 👍🏼🍺
we appreciate you both! and those degrees in psychology and philosophy show in your and alex's well-told stories and almost immaculate expression :)
Dear Emma. If the sun stopped shining and darkness befell us, you’d only need to smile and the whole world would light up 😁🌞
Awesome Emma!! ... thank you so much for sharing and so many important things to think about during these times.
Well done Emma and Alex, I'll drink to that. Wishing you both a very happy new year. YNWA.
I'm grateful to have brain chemistry that seems to keep my outlook positive. Also grateful that I was born in a time and a place that meant favorable circumstances and outcomes would require only modest efforts. I'm grateful for all the simple and sublime things life has to offer.
Eternally grateful for lovely strong people (like you 🤩).
I'm grateful for the Travel Beans for entertaining me and inspiring me to travel (soon I hope🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻)
Good for you lass. keep up the amazing work and don't let anyone bring you down.
I think that one of the best lessons I have learned from a tribe from Peru (the Ititas) they say that you have to "think with the heart and feel with the brain" and this has help me so much. Thank you Emma. And beans out.
Se cuidan chicos. Adiós. 🤗😘
I absolutely love your story. Thank you for being so vulnerable and honest
Thank you for all the smiles 😊
Good on you guys. You’re very inspiring and I love every episode. Good luck on all your adventures next year.
People on TH-cam are influencers! Its important for many to remember this. You are a blessing to many people and especially this vlog today.
Well done 👏✔. Positive breeds Positive
We will all look back on 2020 having learned and grown. Kudos to you both and cheers to all of our journey's, especially moving forward 👊😁
thats exactly what i needed to hear and be reminded of right now
I am so grateful for the wonderful video. You spread joy ,happiness, knowledge in your videos. If not a travel blogger, you would make such a wonderful teacher.
Thank you for sharing. Im grateful for a loving merciful God. Can't wait to watch your videos
