The president is the head of the executive branch, any choices the CIA makes, as a wing of it, have to go through the president- that's literally a president's job. My man's just trying to do a funny, let him be.

    • @squifftopher
      @squifftopher 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danielboone8256 That's just straight up wrong. No matter what decisions they may want to make, the leadership of the CIA is much more interested in:
      Not being prosecuted for felonies.
      Not being publicly humiliated and forced to resign.
      Not publicly humiliating the President of the United States and being forced to resign.
      Not being repeatedly hauled in front of House and Senate subcommittees (even secret ones) and being forced to explain the excesses of their subordinates.
      Not being the first CIA chief to find himself to be a serious enough threat to national security where your immediate removal (by any means necessary) becomes necessary.
      So while the POTUS may not know of every single activity or operation undertaken by the CIA, you can safely assume that if things get too out of hand and he calls the Director in on the carpet, that things are about to get “real.”
      Here are some things that the CIA might do w/o notifying the POTUS:
      Develop intelligence sources inside of the governments of hostile powers.
      Minor covert anti-terrorism activities (including murder, although NOT of American citizens)
      Perform covert intelligence on American citizens, American businesses and foreign businesses and nationals abroad.
      Establish minor contacts with criminal, quasi-terrorist and certain unseemly elements abroad for the purposes of intelligence collection
      Perform intelligence gathering operations against foreign intelligence services who are NOT allied to the US
      Here are some things were the CIA would likely need to get the POTUS to at least "sign off" on:
      Developing intelligence assets inside of the governments and the intelligence agencies of American allies.
      Major covert anti-terrorism activities (including drone strikes, murder, kidnapping and potentially the murder of American citizens abroad)
      Performing covert intelligence which leads them to domestic intelligence targets.
      Establish major contacts with criminal organizations, actual terrorist groups and the most extreme elements abroad for the purposes of intelligence collection,subversion,etc
      Performing intelligence gathering activities against foreign intelligence services of nations allied to the US (especially those in Western Europe and Israel)
      Frankly, the fear of blowback is so great that unless the President was pretty a "hands-off" leader throughout his term(s) in office he would need to keep a firm hand on his intelligence services or have a strong National Security Advisor to do this for him.
      The President nominates the CIA Director and as such that person is beholden to him and serves at his pleasure. If that person decides to go too far off of the reservation and there is blowback, you can bet that he will be on the phone talking with POTUS, if not in the Oval Office standing tall in front of the man.
      Frankly, if you have seen a movie about it and it happened in real life, then the POTUS would have been briefed about it or would have to be briefed before he found out about it in the media. If that didn't occur, the President would almost certainly dismiss the CIA Director and heads below that person's would roll as well.
      To round it up, yeah, Ronald Reagan was fully aware that it was going on. Otherwise Clair George wouldn't have been chief of Covert Operations for long.

    Joking aside, he should be on Mt. Rushmore. He is the only President who has been the president of a union. He is the only President who was shot and survived. He said to "Win one for the Gipper" as part of a movie role and he said to "Win One for the Gipper" as a former two term President giving his farewell address. Under his Presidency, the Soviet Union was sent to the ash heap of history and it was Morning in America again. He was always Presidential and he won 49 of 50 states in his last election.

    I love it when I read comments by folks from today on various social media sites that state RR never made it as an Actor and hardly anybody knew who he was. This is absolute BS if they did any real research. The man starred or co-starred in over fifty motion pictures with many of the top names in Hollywood and was employed by both Warner Bros. (many years) and then Universal as a contract player and in fact, signed the first million dollar contract given to an Actor in 1941 during the height of his popularity. He also was a host and actor for the very popular "General Electric Theatre" for many years in the 50's and early 60's. No, he did not win an Oscar but many others did not either that were successful in the business. He was a solid performer who had fans and popularity and who spent decades in Hollywood. Hardly a failure in his first career and certainly everyone from the 30's through the 60's knew who he was if they went to the movies or watched TV. The audience at this show certainly knew who he was too.

    A great man whose many talents were torn at for years by the left. At one time he was a Democrat and president of a union, the Screen Actors Guild, in the late 1940's. He gradually saw the light, departed the increasingly left-leaning Democrats and restored American pride in the wake of Watergate and after the disaster that was Jimmy Carter. Indeed, the Iranians so feared Reagan, the the embassy hostages in Tehran were released after 444 days in captivity on the day of Reagan's inauguration in Jan. 1981. Reagan's policies led to the downfall of the Soviet Union and the liberation of millions in Eastern Europe, all occurring shortly after he left office. Now that we have a president whose abysmal performance can make only our enemies and Jimmy Carter happy (because Carter is no longer the worst President over the past 150 years), we can only hope that someone like Reagan will emerge to lead America back to greatness -- and in doing so make the world a safer place to live. May God bless Ronald Reagan. No one is perfect and he was not -- but his policies were both sensible and effective.

    • @newname9730
      @newname9730 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Carter was a mediocre President (stronger figure post-Presidency than he was as President), not a disastrous President. By the measure of all Presidencies, he was not terrible, just not exceptional.

    • @i.t9390
      @i.t9390 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually Reagan said that Carter should be thanked that when he entered office the hostage situation had got better. Also Reagans trickledown economics have shown to be bad for American society. He was short minded,he left a mess for his own vp to fix after him. His domestic policies weren't good, he fumbled aids badly, he spearheaded the war on drugs, and added to the deficit. Though I do admit his foreign policy was pretty favorable .

      Reagan would disown Trump. He didn't have much to say about him in the 80s because Trump sort-of personified the concept of freewheeling capitalism when cut loose from government boot heels on its neck. But Trump was a natural born narcissist and the most arrogant person I've ever had the displeasure of laying eyes on -- the diametric opposite of Ronald Reagan, a good and genuinely decent man who put country first in all he did. Trump never did anything that didn't benefit Trump first and foremost.
