Yes now bc she officially has an idc handle on it I’m way less worried about it and now just use it whenever and hopefully in turn that’ll help patina HAND OILS GALORE 😂🫶🏼

I did all my LV bags just as Monsieur Ashley says in his video and they all turned out great. I used water wipes too not the same brand as he did. I think the problem was you should’ve squeezed the excess water off the wipes first. It’s seems they were too wet and left the water spots.
I’m so glad they worked for your bags bc I can only imagine how deliciously honey your bags must look 🥺 I wish I also folded the wipes too instead of just went in with it willy-nilly. Ty for the tip though still if I’m feeling ballsy later 😂😭

In our german LV-Group we are using Baby-Whips and Saddle Soap for horses for cleaning. I also cleaned my Looping Mm (20years old) with my Saddle Soap and use a lot of water. 😅 After its completly dryed I used Saddle-fat (? Is this the same in english). It is a kind of conditioner and protects the leather and let it shine. I used a lot of water and my strap was very wet during this procedure.

I had to take a deep breath and close my eyes for a second in the beginning of this video because my heart was sinking💔I am a girl who doesn’t really pay attention vachetta/patina process for my LV bags so keep in mind there are more people looking at the aesthetic of your bags instead of looking at details. I personally wouldn’t try to look for flaws when I see people’s bags and am sure that’s for most people. I am glad you are feeling better after going through everything😌

I did use the baby wipe method attempting to darken my handles of my speedy 30…..I too got the dark/gray splotchy spots…..freaked out a bit but went with the process….left them alone and they did get a bit more honey. So no harm. BUT I didn’t do the wipes again! I think tho your right on the money with a new bag right outta the box vs a bag used on the daily then using the wipes. I hadn’t used my bag which is why I wanted the honey look before I used it…..I wish you luck on your bag repair journey. It’s such a cute bag tho!

I watched Ashley’s video a lot too before deciding to use baby wipes on my vachetta. I didn’t notice any water spots or issues afterwards. I used it both on my really old LV bags from 2007 before I knew anything about caring for vachetta so kind of trashed it anyway so there was nothing to lose.
I mainly liked his tip about tanning new bags for a week prior to using so it sets up a good base. That helped the most. I use Apple guard now after tanning for a week and before using. It causes it to patina faster than his the first year.
I don’t think there is any perfect way to care for or clean vachetta and now embrace the imperfection. Like you, I have sections where one area darkened more than others and now just live with it. He’s meticulous by wiping after each use. I am not since I Apple guard and don’t want to wipe off the protection. He clearly knows what he’s doing though-I just don’t have the discipline or trust to follow it perfectly without Apple guard!
Yes agreed! Weirdly with all the LV pieces I own I’ve never tanned them before using them but definitely going to implement that moving forward to help it have a more even patina 🙌🏻✨

My speedy 25 was the same when I bought it new, one side is so white and the other started to patina. Left it on the window seal and it didn’t do anything to the white side. Found out it’s because the leather came from two different material and the other side will not patina at all. My CA put in a request to replace both handles at no charge.

Yes agreed I feel like if I did this when the bag was fresh out of the store then it would’ve been a lot more even 🥹 I honestly am considering it depending on the price. So next time I go in the store I’m going to get a quota for future reference!

I did this to my bag as well and used the same baby wipes as you did but you didn’t wet the handle enough which caused the discoloration. You have to wet the handle more with the wipe and allow it to dry and it will be even.

I’ve heard of people having two different colored handles due to different lots of hide used for the handles and that LV repaired free of charge as a “defect”. Maybe you can try taking it to the store for an assessment? Good luck! (And to be honest it doesn’t look that horrible!) ❤❤❤

A friendly advice after talking to a very experienced sell associate at LV store : Do not interfere in any way with the natural patina of the leather. You will interact with the natural oils development and the result after years will be a blurry patina. Just let the bags be !
I seen a video where someone’s bag had the same problem. Their bag wasn’t patinaing evenly. It turned out that it was the leather itself. I would check with lv & see if they can help u. It is a quality issue, not anything u did . Months , in the sun, it just wouldn’t patina . 😢

I was even thinking of you rubbing hand cream on your hands and rubbing your hands on the handle would help too. 😅 Like you said though, we see our things and ourselves in the mirror every day. We notice things that the general public just don't care about, like how big our pores are (we like to think) and its all in our head. Ppl will love you for who you are just like we love our bags with every mark it gets from all our usage. 💕💕

I have the same problem with one of my lv items and I know exactly what happened. It's because lv used two different vachetta on your handles, which means one handle is regular vachetta that can patina over time and the other will not patina over time 😢. And with the regular Vachetta, you able to use baby wipes or leather cleaner to even watermark, but with the other Vachetta is the totally opposite 😢 It's will not absorb any kind of liquid evenly and turn out even worse 😢. It was bother me so I ended up letting that bag go 😭. Love your video, Maggy ❤ Wish you the best ❤
Interesting. Was the color of the handles even when you bought the bag? Could be the leather on the straps never matched? I’m also a little concerned about the setting it out in the sun process

Yes exactly!! I’ve read on so many forums that other people have the same issue with other bags that aren’t speedys. Certain vachetta is from a different animal so they patina at different rates. It’s a lot more common than I expected! Thank you for this comment 🩵🩵🩵
What would happen if you submerged the handle in water? Then there's no uneven pressure and just let it air dry? Not saying do that but just a thought.
Maybe you should try using a leather waterproof spray in the future, that’s that I use on my lv pieces and it makes it easier for me to clean them
It wouldn't hurt the vachetta even if it got soaked as long as it's evenly soaked with water. When you are just routinely cleaning you can squeezed the excess water and don't be scared to evenly wet the whole leather. You just barely touched it with the wipe so it's just spotty wet.
That’s what people are telling me I should’ve added more pressure and got a wetter wipe so it would’ve actually saturated the handle 🥹
I had the problem with the baby wipes on patina 😢and somehow the patina leather became drier as well after it was wiped with baby wipes

Hate to say it but I’ve used vegetable oil to help it pantina evenly and pretty much instantly. There’s videos of this method on YT :)
I never intentionally wanted to patina my vachetta but on two separate occasions the vachetta on my cute nano nice got “ruined”. The first some careless person left a whole tray of chocolate covered strawberries on top my bag (my fault for taking it out to my party to finish my makeup) and I was devastated. I was already so upset I thought well wiping it with water wipes won’t make it worse. It didn’t! It actually helped somewhat even the mess out and it looked like a beautiful honey patina. 1.5 years later, I leave my nano nice in the back seat of my car after doing my make up. After taking my son to the doctor I come to discover a whole ass water wipe sitting on top my my nano nice for who knows how long leaving the biggest stain on only half the handle! I was furious and went off on my mom for leaving it out like that. It still hurts a bit til this day because I didn’t cause that damage. I didn’t even bother to try and even it because I felt like I would make it worse. Now you can tell there is a stain but the beautiful thing about vachetta is that it corrects itself with time and patinas on its own. It’s not even but it doesn’t looks bad either and now I feel like it’s meant to be used without a care.
Maggie it has nothing to do with the brand of baby wipes you used something I noticed with my new speedy b 25 in damier azur compared to my previous older speedy b 30 in damier Azur that I sold , is that they are using a different vachetta leather for the speedy handles . I would guess that includes the nano speedy handles as well . I think they started using a different vachetta leather than what was used on the older speedy versions. So maybe the new leather on the top handles won’t turn that disgusting black over time .
the new handles if you look closely have more of a plastic look to it . If I didn’t see the difference myself on my own speedy b 25 I wouldn’t have believed it . I carried my new speedy 25 DA a few times outside and the chaps ,vachetta leather strip have begun to turn very nicely but my top handles are still very whitesh . I get it

I quickly and evenly applied plane water and let sit it

Use only water, but only on that handle make sure it's soaked. If it gets too dark, u can soak the rest of the handles, too
I’ve read in forums of people doing this!! Some even QUICKLY dunking their handles so it’s one giant water stain essentially 😂😂😂

I used the Ashley method on my Iena and it looks great! On the ones that I used Apple Guard, the patina is uneven
When I watched the end of your video, I noticed that my speedy 20 has that uneven patina. One handle is darker than the other and the leaf part is dark on one side and light on the other. I thought it was from the Apple guard 🫤

I’ve never actually used baby wipes on my Vachetta, but I do use just plain water. I REALLY wet the vachetta to make sure it gets evenly wet. Like a giant water spot if you will.
I had the leather redone at LV on my Vintage Noe GM (SO to dct japan again haha) and the whole bag tanned just fine but the drawstring is still WHITE. So tbh, it might just be that one handle. If you’ve seen LVcoffeelvr talk about how her Speedy B 25 also did not patina evenly.
And no one pays more attention to our bags than we do. Haha
I’ve seen people on forums do that as well! They’ll wet a washcloth and essentially a giant homemade water wipe and “soak it” and it it makes it more even tbh I did consider trying but too scarred from the baby wipe experience to try it lol 💀
I’m sure if you keep wearing the bag the marks will disappear as the whole bag patinas. It’ll even out in time and with use/age

Hi Maggy, don’t be too upset because it will still get darker sooner or later depending on time, just use it a bit more often on the opposite side that you want it to get darker just let it expose more to the environment!

So sorry it happened to your bag!💔I have used water wipes on all my lv bags even on vachetta and they are all fine. I wish you would’ve removed the excess water before wiping onto your handles. I think those caused the patches on yours.

I spray (water repellent) all my verchetta leather LV very close distance and i spray it very wet. When it dry. No one know i spray water repellent. I use my bag and then spray again and i spray many time till it patina. That how i do. I have gone through over 10 bottle of water repellent fyi. I use baby wipe too when i done using my bag. Then spray water repellent. So far all my verchetta bag evenly patina. Only my Speedy 20 patina differently in different area. I guess different verchetta act differently. Oh i got over 10 verchetta bag. Just fyi. 😊😊
I did that one time, but I think that the problem is that you didn’t go true to the point when the handle is all dark because of the wipe, you stoped in the part that you see that spots 🙁 I don’t know if you get what I say ehehe hope that everything go right

You can get new handles. Well, you got to pay for it at LV but that's a option.

@maggyxchuu I assume they will only repair it as a pair. I recently got bucket bag straps replaced and it was $425. Does it bother you enough? It's a personal decision.

You should have soaked the handle more so the water spots blend into the rest of the handle and then let the whole thing dry. I’ve gotten a lot of watermarks out that way.
I thought about this too that maybe my wipe didn’t saturate it enough that’s why it was splotchy 💀
I'm almost certain you could have taken your bag back to LV for repair. It's obvious there was a defect with your vachetta, because it's not normal for the vachetta to patina that unevenly

Honestly, if that handle wasn’t patina’ing at the same rate as the other parts and then did that after the water wipes, it seems like the Vachetta was already damaged in some way (??) - I dunno. So sorry this happened! 😢

I used extra Virgin olive oil to patina my bags and it works just have to go light handed until you get it to the level of patina you want

I know you should never let moisture touch the vachetta but once I washed my hands and touched my bag and a couple drops reached the vachetta part. It’s a bummer. Mistakes were made but it’s ok. Take a deep breath and enjoy what you have. No one else will notice the vachetta, and after a while it will probably mellow into the same color. 🤞

Perspective is key. I learned that baby wipes does not work for all. I did that to my Hermes. Learned the hard way too 🥹 We move on and learn to appreciate the uniqueness of each bag 💜

I know! I’ve been on so many forums and so many people say not to baby wipe but it’s honestly such an even 50/50 some other people swear by them 🥹
I sprayed mines with apple guard first, and now when I wipe it with the baby wipes, I don’t have the same problem. I also make sure to blot as much of the water from the baby wipe before wiping down my vachetta.

Maggy don’t leave the bag in direct sunlight for too long, especially somewhere hot like the car. Even if you wrap the bag in a towel the UV rays will still penetrate through and deteriorate the canvas and vachetta. Unless you can find a UV blocking material, it won’t make that much of a difference I don’t think. Also the handles will darken over time when you carry it! Then it will even out with the vachetta on the hardware. Hope you are not too hard on it/yourself, you tried your best!
You’re 100% right 😭😭 bc I thought that the towel would shield the button vachetta pieces from getting dark but now they’re the darkest pieces on the bag 💀💀 uv rays too powerful 😭😂😭 but yes now I’m not stressing and it’s one of my semi idc bags so hopefully that mindset will allow it to darken!
@@maggyxchuu i don’t know if you researched this option, but you could always try mink oil. I got a vintage 1992 Speedy HL that had a dark patina, then i bought a vachetta strap to wear with it and coated it in mink oil to match the patina. It did darken a shade or two, probs more if i went in with another coat. It may be worth trying! At least you have your Speedy HL now 😅

Why don’t you let it darken naturally?? Just use it often and it will get dark naturally. Mine has a very nice patina without using any wipes.
I was just really impatient 😭 but that’s where I’m at now not stressed just going to wear it and get my oils on it bahaha

NEVER leave bags in the sun. That could have made the one handle patina faster. Not good for the canvas either. Use and time helps develops the patina. Water and leather never a good idea. Cadillac and Bicks are both good leather cleaners and conditioners. Be patient or buy LV brown or black leather in the future, or wrap a twilly around the handles. LV doesn’t recommend any of the things you did. Carry it a lot and it will hopefully look better in time. Patience helps.

I use it religiously on my shoes and bags for scuffs and stains. Just regular petroleum jelly.

This is why you should never use baby wipes on your vachetta leather. It naturally patinas. That is the beauty of vachetta leather.
