    Three years later, he would end his career the same way (hitting a double) with my team, the Expos.
    What a career, what a man, what a life! Rip Kid.
    Amazing video quality btw considering it was shot in '89. Thanks uploader. Great job!

    thank you for sharing this; it perfectly captures the spirit of Shea, and more importantly, what Gary meant to us in the great years he gave to the team.

    Considering this is 1989, this is pretty amazing amateur video! Props! Thanks for sharing! Carter was my all-time favorite player.

    Great job. Hard to find anything on this. Thanks so much for posting. It almost feels like a family member is gone. RIP Gary.

    We love Gary Carter for the person he was and the ballplayer. He was a leader for the 1986 team with a hit in game 6 to start the rally.
    RIP KID!

    Video is simply unbelievable. RIP, Kid, and thank you for everything.
    BTW, McDowell was on Phillies by this game. In fact, I think this game ended with a brawl between him and Gregg Jefferies.

    It was so endearing to hear the fans cheer, that you don't hear on a network broadcast.

    We got to go to Gary's rented house near Oyster Bay Long Island N. Y. Once in 1988. We were a TV sports field crew with the former SportsChannel. He couldn't have been nicer. It was a Monday off day. He was all alone as his family was back in California I think he said. But he told us of something that happened the day before there. He invited the team to a Sunday BBQ at his house after a daygame at Shea. Carter was devoutly religious so the rule was No Alcohol or Smoking in the house or backyard. WELL this was the late 80s Mets! They all showed up--they had a BBQ. I'm saving the rest of the story for my book!

    Gary Carter was my baseball hero growing up. I remember watching this game and how it ended with the brawl between McDowell and Jeffries. Thanks for posting and sharing this great memory. You caught a great piece piece of history there on tape. The quality is great.

    I've had the honor and the priviledge of meeting Gary Carter in person on more than one occassion and got his autograph on a baseball, a bat. a 1985 New York mets yearbook and a Mitchell and Ness New York Mets Jerery with his last name on the back of the jersey and the #8. He along with the 1986 New York Mets is the reason I'm a New York Mets fan even though I was only 6 years old when they won the series that year.

    Don't worry, leaving a Mets game to avoid watching them lose is something we all have done. Sadly, many, many times.

    @djianh You're absolutely right. I was at this game. It was my birthday that year. Was also Hernandez's last as a Met. Jefferies hit a bounder back to McDowell, and McDowell taunted him on the way to first, so Jefferies stepped on the base, then turned around and went after him

    Great footage and the best thing is that MLB and their lynch mob, destroy the fans memories mentality can't remove this.

    I was actually gonna ask if this was the game where McDowell and Jefferies got into a fight. I didn't realize it was Carter's last game. I remember this game because I was watching the Phillies TV broadcast of it. Cool stuff!

    Kind of weird, last AB with the Mets-Double, at home, pulled after the hit for a pinch runner. Last AB with the Expos-Double, at home, pulled after the hit for a pinch runner.

    You're right! I was trying to think of the logistics. We left after Carter's AB. Walking to the car we heard a loud roar and didn't know why. When we got into the car we heard of the brawl.

    Carreon on deck...about a month before they dumped Mazzilli and his sub-.200 average to keep Carreon on the roster. Not saying it wasn't right move, but I loved Maz. Loved Gary too, of course.

  • @sabreyow
    @sabreyow 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @goback3spaces i wouldve kept mazzilli over carreon.we waited and waited for that dude (carreon) to do something,but he never did.kinda like everyone in the mets outfield in the late 80's early 90's..carreon,huskey,burnitz,gilkey,etc,etc..

    I like the shots of him at 2nd Base with the Montreal Expos pennant right next to him. Gary Carter will always be an Expo, first and foremost... Ah, what could have been !

    • @jpsned
      @jpsned 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      What a weird coincidence! About the pennant, I mean. Gary obviously loved being an Expo, so much so that he chose to have an Expos cap on his HOF plaque. I'm a Mets fan, and loved Gary on the Mets, and can't imagine why he liked being an Expo more than a Met--he seemed like he had such a good time in NY (esp winning the 86 World Series). But he did start and end his career in Montreal, so it does make sense. Needless to say, he gave fans in both cities a lot to cheer about.
