  • In one of the most dramatic Grand Finals imaginable, Spain's Mario Mola took the 2016 world title by just four points, but that tells only one part of this incredible race in Cozumel, where brothers Alistair and Jonathan Brownlee provided an iconic moment in sporting history.

    No one will remember who won, only that piece of sportsmanship.

    Triumph and disaster - such is sport on occasions like this. Congrats to Henry and Mario, not just on their wins but also on their gracious post-race interviews. Wonderful camaraderie and mutual respect in ample evidence here - as well as brotherly love.

    Not a big Brownlee fan, but gotta give them props for sportsmanship and brotherly love. Unfortunately I have seen the big bonk/severe dehydration dance too many times as a coach and athlete. I hope he is OK.

    you can give your criticism all you want to anyone. whethe Johnny shouldve stopped or his brother shouldve got medical help or if Henry shouldn't have gone ahead, but unless you have raced at a high stake race such as this at their caliber, you just dont understand

    Not sure about this. Race or not, health safety and medical assistance should always come first. Athletes die exactly in the same way.

      sports and races would be less beautiful if you inhibit these moments. athleths die for other reasons that the one's brownlee seems have here..

    That was an act of sacrifice but the right choice would have been for Alistair to stop racing entirely and get Jonathon some medical help instead of helping him cross the finish line.

    absolute insane. bad example for kids "NOT ALWAYS CAN WIN" sometimes you win not others. and never we can use ilegal ways to win or lie the jugdes. big supermario

  • @davidfernandez3659
    @davidfernandez3659 8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    yeah,its beautiful... but its ilegal, mola deserves the championship and he says that in the water alistair hits him for helping her brother. Sorry but Im not happy with this performance from the brownlees brothers, they have been to be punished

    • @itarry4
      @itarry4 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      it's not illegal read the rules. any competitor is allowed to offer assistance of any kind to another. The Spanish complained and the governing body checked the rules. As they said they help each other all the time, competitors draft on the swim and run, take turns at the front, at the biggest race the Olympics countries put teams together with people in them to specifically help there country team members. it's part of triathlon.

    • @davidfernandez3659
      @davidfernandez3659 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      no mate, you are wrong. the rules say that any official can help the competitors. when jonny is arriving a official helps him and if he didint help him he wouldnt arrive, and the rules say that between competitors mustnt exists help

    • @jimjamthebananaman1
      @jimjamthebananaman1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidfernandez3659 no you're wrong. It clearly states that competitors are allowed to help each other out during competition which is what Alistair done with Jonny

    • @trinerd
      @trinerd 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@itarry4 you are wrong, and does not answer Brownlee taking Mola's goggles and swim cap at the start, clearly trying to cheat him.

  • @pedoncarlos
    @pedoncarlos 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    It is a lovely brother story. But nothing of sportsmanship. This was the last race of the world series. Jonathan had good chances of been the world campion, while his brother, Alistair, none. That is why he didn´t care not winning and carried and pushed his brother. Letting him pass before him. It is nice but absolutily unssportman for other runners. In one word, that is simply cheating. Both should have been banned.
    By the way, ¿did you see Alistair waiting for his brother a month ago on the Olimpics?

    • @willieraus2919
      @willieraus2919 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hahahahaha is this a joke? Dude Alister was running double the pace of what he have been going, giving Jonathan didn't need assistance. They would have occupied the top 2 positions on the podium. If the other athletes couldn't catch them running that slow of a pace, they don't deserve a podium. PLUS, they killed the cycling portion. I reckon they're deserving victors, not cheaters

    • @BicornioSPA

    • @Vaalferatus

      actually it's well with in the rules. in triathlon you are allowed to get and give help to other competitors. great to see true sporting greatness. stupid heat and dangerous.

    Why is your man Henri schoeman celebrating like that!! No need at all.

  • @MauMenzori
    @MauMenzori 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That Henry Schoeman should have honored the other athlete in distress, and waited BEHIND him, to claim a well deserved second/third place. Easy to run past a man who's going through a temporary problem, isn't it? Unfair, in my opinion.
