You know, submarines don't typically have open hatches on the top, they have a way to close them. I would suggest a tarp at the very least, considering you guys don't have the equipment to seal off all air.

Some of my Cuban family members had to do something similar to this, but instead of 2 days, it's a week. They even had to make it homemade and everything. It wasn't a 2 people trip, it was a 10 people trip. Their boat flipped over and lost their food, some people started hallucinating from hunger, and went into the ocean thinking they saw boats, they never came back. Others with outright diabetes died. It was a project to come to the USA. They didn't have much money, so they couldn't take a plane. There's a rule that says if coast guards don't see you, and you get to shore. You won't get deported. Only a few people made it, one of those was my family member.
