  • One of the lesser-known masters of weird fiction, Robert Aickman's tales will haunt you, without you really understanding why.

It’s hard to explain Aickman but you did it a great job of highlighting his appeal. Thomas Ligotti remains my GOAT and Laird Barron my solid second, but the more I read Aickman the more I appreciate him. He was a uniquely gifted artist. I hope your video introduces new people to his work.

Aickman is one of my favorite writers - the stories are not "Oh my God--EEEK!" but more vastly unsettling, which is quite potent enough to leave one disquieted and unsettled for a long time.

Love Robert aickman and yet I usually hate horror so that's saying something. Often gently unsettling, creepy, intriguing always leaves me wondering what happened for weeks after. Just finished Dark entries, very enjoyable.
    Good review :)

Meris what do you hate in horror ? Because you described precisely what I look for! Also, Dark Entries was my first Aickman too and of course I loved it but it is the less powerful of his collections. I wouldn't be able to pick one but two good starting point are his superclassic Cold Hand in Mine and my personal favourite The Unsettled Dust. I still have to read his full length... I'm stuck with short stories in this moment of my life, it has been almost a decade actually

Thanks for the review, in a similar vein I can highly recommend the short stories of Walter de la Mare.

De la Mare's A.B.O. was hilarious. Or maybe I'm just twisted. But the narrator's histrionics were gold.
