My biggest criticism of the album is that IT NEEDS MORE SONGS. All the girls got to really shine. Lisa's expert rapping, Jennie's versatility, Jisoo's smoothness, and especially Rosé's unique power VOCALS make me melt every time.
Blackpink said they had 10+ songs but they said they wanted to give us 8 songs because they said they were the best of the best
They said they had like 10 songs but they had to take some out cause it didn't match the album. But even though its 8 song tbh I don't complain. It's so beautiful. We waited 4 years and I think this paid. Yes but if they had more song much better. Many artists mini album got 8 songs.

You never know feels so special for older blinks especially after seeing how much hate they received, how people dehumanized, insult, threaten and people making them seem like some stuck up btches who was spoon sped into the success they have rn. The song gives me flashbacks of those unwanted hate the girls have received over the years and it just makes me cry every single time I hear you never know

I do believe the part where Jennie says " the brighter that light gets the longer my shadow gets" represents how their fame is growing and how that affects her negatively putting her in a dark place. Next line is so deep it made me cry actually "When It's too bright, can i look back ?" which means now that we are at the top, can i go back to be the unknown simple happy girl ? because she misses those times it's really really sad especially with the way she is singing it so desperately like crying for help
I guess the meaning of that second verse connected to the first verse u mentioned. "The brighter that lights get the longer my shadow gets" and "when it's too bright, can i look back?" The more fame the more pain from negative feedbacks. So it means in the second verse that f they're facing the bright side (fame,success) then how can they look back when there's already high shadow (negative feedbacks, insults, judgements)
That's just my opinion tho....

I wish there were a few more songs like You Never Know on the Album. I think it's by far the best and most meaningful song on the album. To me that's the whole idea of releasing a full album, having a mixture of short catchy tunes and longer/more meaningful songs like You Never Know. If there were more songs like that then you would certainly end up with more than 24 minutes of music.
I hope they do a repackage and add more songs
Blackpink mentioned they have more music for this album, but it didn't make it to the cut. It will be revealed on their NETFLIX DOC on OCT 14.
Since Rosé is such a vocal god, i am hoping her solo will go in this kind of direction

Its so amazing how they ended up the album with You Never Know. After you hear all the bop songs then they hit to the last. Reminding all the people that theyre all just human too, which they deserves respect and love. You never Know is my jam and my most favorite in the album. Love Sick Girls is such an anthem. Bet you Wanna is so western. Love to Hate Me is a bop. Crazy Over You is crazy and catchy. There's no bad song in this album. AOTY for Blackpink!

The thing is, I kind of understand why they went with 8 songs, they want us to appreciate all the messages and depth each song has. THE ALBUM is a masterpiece. It transcends beyond the line that distinguishes KPOP to GLOBAL tracks. It’s the perfect mix of both. It is KPOP in a sense that they have it in their roots but they leveled it where everyone can appreciate them by not labeling them as a KPOP girl group. They are just BLACKPINK. I am in love with this, I haven’t had this experience where I love all the songs from the album of a group or even any western artist, not since Taylor Swift dropped SPEAK NOW album. Like legit that was my shit and this is now my shit. Mind you I was a hard stan of BIGBANG but even their MADE album (which is monumental btw) did not make me feel this way.
I could go on with THE ALBUM for days. That’s how hauntingly beautiful it is.

Props to the writer of You never know, they managed to capture the struggles of being a celebrity, and even a normal person perfectly. Their lyrics are very universal yet at the same time personal. It's an outstanding song, hands down. Not to even mention the amazing arrangement and production. Beautiful.
