He also took part in the Golden Frieza fight against his men and in the fight against several of the other Universes.

He then helped fend off Frieza's men and took part in the tournament against most of the other universes as one of the universe 7 team members. I haven't read the DBS manga yet, but as far as I'm aware Tien is currently teaching his pupils.
Among the Z Fighters Yamcha is the truest example of a martial class progression progression vs a spell casting class progression or "I can kick the ass of everyone on the planet in rapid succession" vs "lol that's cute, call me when you can obliterate the freaking sun" 😢

From antagonist, to friends to the regular guy among a lot of super people is a trip no many of us would be glad to be, and even among gods, this guy still manage to drive and keep being relevant...eh kinda, but showing that the power to keep up striving to be better live strong on him when staying around the power levels the others have. Brave, boastful and dependable, Yamcha is your brave and boastful ex bandit that is willing to put himself in the line for the sake of his friends, no matter if the danger is clearly terrifying or deadly he will stand at the side of its Z fighters (Just as Tangle the lemur would face certain extinction or death with a smile if it means its friends are safe, a trait both this lemur and the Class B wolf share, hope that Sir Tulok can give us a build for her Soon) you might not be top dog, but doing your part is still important, and in a team game even the lowest of all might win the game for its team.
I mean you say you have no weapon to bond with, but Yamcha did use a sword at one point. So maybe he’s just holding his old blade in a capsule for old times sake?
You know Yamcha is a character with like three possible backgrounds. He was a desert bandit so you can make the case for Outlander and Criminal. Then after he left the wilds he played Baseball for an Athlete background. Kinda interesting when a character doesn't fit neatly and see what people pick.
Let's not forget that he was a cop for a little bit (before he got Redshirted to The Cyborg's) so City Watch could work for both his Desert Bandit phase and the Cop years...

He freaks out because he doesn't want to live through the misery that Yamcha goes through in Z so he uses his innate awareness of the lore of dragonball to turn Yamcha into one of the strongest characters in the world instead. Turns Yamcha into a BEAST its a fun ride
All this talk about the games makes me remember the days of DBFZ when Yamcha's EX-Wolf Fang Fist was one of the most opressive tools in the game. Nowadays I don't know where he falls in the meta, just know he ain't nowhere near the upper tiers. Atleast he has one of the best Dramatic Finishes.

a potentially interesting build would be HK-47 from kotor. in order to get all the droid gadgets, assassin skills, multiple languages, and firearm proficiencies you'd have to grab some weird multiclassing.

Everyone gives Yamcha shit but he's still one of the strongest humans in the world. To me, the most useless of the Z-fighters is Chaotzu. He manipulated a random draw with his psychic powers in the original series, blew himself up in Z, and that's been his complete contributions to the storyline.

Maybe more monk as well but I don't have the books in front of me to see if it'd be worth it to drop just 3 or 5 into fighter to get 1-3 more in monk. Minimum one in monk would give another stat boost or feat....I think 2 would give a die improvement to your 'ki blasts' which makes them a competitive option over just picking up a bow to use on the way into a fight.

And the smartest thing he did was capitalizing on his super human abilities to get filthy rich. He may have lost some battles but he’s no loser

Couldn't you get Fly from Eldritch Knight at level 14? That would allow you to take more Fighter levels for more hp, ASIs and such (either 17 Fighter/3 Monk, or 16 Fighter/4 Monk) (less blasting, but if you really care about that, you can still take a Sorcerer level for the basic stuff, for 16 Fighter/3 Monk/1 Sorcerer)
You can dedicate your two (level 8 and level 14) non-abjuration and non-evocation spells known for Haste and Fly (Highest level spells known, 3rd). You miss out on Flaming Sphere though (which is a pain point since a ball of hurt you can bounce around the battlefield is his other signature move), cantrips, a third level spell slot, a fifth level spell slot, three fourth level spell slots, sorcery points, and other spell selection. Empowered Healing is kinda negligible.
